Christian Coleman breaks silence after Sha'Carri Richardson arrest for alleged domestic dispute at airport

Track star Christian Coleman has publicly addressed the recent arrest of his girlfriend, fellow sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson, following an alleged domestic dispute. In a video shared by Citius Mag on Instagram on August 3, Coleman called the incident 'a sucky situation all around,' and expressed that he didn't believe Richardson should have been arrested. 'She has things she needs to work on for herself, of course. But so do I, so do you. Everybody,' he said. Emphasizing his outlook, Coleman added that he chooses to respond with 'grace, mercy, and love,' viewing the ordeal as an opportunity to reflect, rather than a setback. U.S. sprinter Christian Coleman defends Sha'Carri Richardson after her arrest: 'I feel like it was just a sucky situation all around, I don't feel as if she should have been arrested.' 🎥: @TheAthletic — Glock Topickz (@Glock_Topickz) August 4, 2025 Richardson was arrested on the weekend of July 27 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport after what was described by the New York Post as a 'fiery argument' with Coleman. Witnesses reportedly saw Richardson pushing Coleman multiple times as he walked away. Although Coleman declined to press charges or be named a victim, Richardson was charged with fourth-degree domestic violence assault and released from custody on July 28. Following the release of Coleman's remarks, social media reactions quickly surfaced and reflected a range of opinions. Some users praised his calm and supportive response, while others emphasized the importance of accountability in domestic violence cases, regardless of gender. One Instagram user wrote, 'He spoke highly of her… his heart is pure,' while another added, 'Normalize holding women accountable.' Others urged Coleman to recognize potential red flags in the relationship. Despite the controversy surrounding the incident, Coleman's public comments remained composed and centered on moving forward with reflection and growth.

PSG beat Seattle to reach knockout stage at Club World Cup

European champions Paris St Germain advanced into the knockout stage of the Club World Cup as Group B winners with a 2-0 victory over hosts Seattle Sounders on Monday. The Ligue 1 champions, who suffered a shock defeat by Botafogo on Friday and were guaranteed a spot in the last 16 with a win over Seattle, scored in each half through Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Achraf Hakimi. With the result, coupled with Atletico Madrid's 1-0 victory over Botafogo, PSG finished first in Group B with six points from three games. PSG face the Group A runners-up on Sunday in Atlanta while Botafogo will play the winner from that group on Saturday in Philadelphia. 'It's a happy day. It feels good,' said PSG midfielder Joao Neves. 'We are going to Atlanta … we will try to put our idea into the game no matter what team we are playing against.' Seattle, who needed to beat PSG by a margin of three goals or more to even stand a chance of progressing, exit the Club World Cup winless after three games played in their home stadium. PSG broke through in the 35th minute moments after the ball was cleared following a corner but fell to a wide open Vitinha on the edge of the box. Vitinha's strike was headed off target but bounced off Kvaratskhelia's back and into the Seattle goal. They doubled their lead in the 66th minute after substitute Bradley Barcola drove into the area and, after an over-commitment by five Seattle players, spotted a wide open Hakimi who easily finished into the back of the net. Seattle made a fast start to the game and had PSG pinned in their own defensive third during the opening minutes but the MLS side were unable to connect on a pair of early corner kicks. On Seattle's first corner, the ball dropped for Obed Vargas just outside the area but his volley sailed way right of the net while PSG's Marquinhos headed the ball to safety at the second corner. Messi's Miami and PSG progress to set up Club World Cup reunion 'It was a good start,' Seattle coach Brian Schmetzer said of his team's effort. 'We knew we were going to have to come out and be ready for the best league team in Europe so our guys came out into the game fired up.' PSG then took over and nearly went ahead in the 12th minute when Desire Doue's shot from the right side of the box was on target but Seattle goalkeeper Stefan Frei managed to turn it over the crossbar. After the break, Seattle appeared to lack the drive they showcased earlier in the match while PSG kept pushing and displayed their counter-attacking prowess. PSG nearly doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Hakimi delivered a brilliant cross toward the far post where an outstretched Neves managed to make contact but could not find the net. 'We managed to succeed in winning this match, I am happy,' said PSG manager Luis Enrique. 'Of course, there's a few things to fine tune but it is not easy to play on this type of pitch. 'It's very different to European pitches. The grass is different and therefore it is not so easy to have the same smoothness to play our style of play but we did adapt well.'

Islanders vs Kings 1-4: LA Kings stifle Islanders with perfect penalty kill

The Los Angeles Kings rode a flawless penalty kill and timely scoring to a 4-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday at Arena. Philip Danault and Quinton Byfield scored within a five-minute span to put the Kings ahead, while Drew Doughty sealed the win with a short-handed empty-net goal. Vladislav Gavrikov opened the scoring in the first period as Los Angeles went 8-for-8 on the penalty kill. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 33 shots and benefited from two potential Islanders power-play goals overturned for goalie interference. The win extended the Kings' streak to three and moved them within a point of the Edmonton Oilers for second place in the Pacific Division. Anders Lee scored in the second period for New York, which concluded its three-game West Coast trip at 1-2-0. The Islanders, now five points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot, received 28 saves from Ilya Sorokin. Gavrikov broke through with 4:27 left in the first, beating Sorokin with a wrist shot from the right faceoff circle. The Islanders briefly pulled even at 8:37 of the second when Lee's shot from the slot slipped past Kuemper. Danault put the Kings back on top just 37 seconds later, capitalizing after Warren Foegele forced a turnover deep in New York's zone. Byfield extended the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted short-handed goal after Islanders defenseman Tony DeAngelo broke his stick attempting to receive a pass. Lee appeared to bring New York back within a goal late in the second, but his tally was overturned following review. With Sorokin pulled in the final minutes, Doughty iced the game with a short-handed empty-net goal at 1:17 remaining.
