Instead of the bustling towns of Jaipur or Udaipur, explore this wildlife gem in Rajasthan. Vaishnavi Patel says, 'The landscape is surreal with rocky hills, riverbeds, and you can also spot leopards!' A highlight is the rustic feast under the stars, including Ker Sangri and Laal Maas.
Budget: Flights from major cities to Udaipur, Jodhpur, or Jaipur cost ₹4,000 to ₹5,000. Then take a bus or a cab to Jawai, costing ₹3,000 to ₹5,000. Safari lodges range from ₹2,000 to ₹10,000 per night.

Visa demand jumps 32% as Indians rush abroad on Independence Day weekend
Indians used the Independence Day long weekend to squeeze in quick international breaks, with short-haul destinations seeing a spike in demand. Data from Atlys, the visa processing platform, shows that visa applications for the period were up 32 per cent compared with a regular weekend. Nearly 60 per cent of bookings were for destinations such as Bali, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Dubai and Thailand, which combine short flights with straightforward visa processes. Why short-haul trips are on the rise These destinations offered the right balance of ease and experiences, making them attractive for holidays that could be planned with little notice. For many, it was an opportunity to travel abroad without facing long visa queues or paperwork. The influence of social media has played a role too. Cafés in Bali, bike tours in Vietnam and nightlife in Dubai have become popular choices for travellers seeking shareable experiences. The surge was seen across metros and smaller towns alike. Visa activity from tier 2 cities such as Surat, Jaipur and Mohali was up 35 per cent, while Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore continued to contribute the largest volumes. Millennials made up the biggest share of travellers at 57 per cent, followed by Gen Z at 22 per cent, showing how younger groups are driving this wave of weekend getaways. Atlys said its visa sale during the period added to the momentum, reducing cost barriers and encouraging last-minute plans. A large portion of applications was linked specifically to long weekend trips. 'What we're seeing is a mindset shift. Indians are no longer waiting months to plan a holiday. A long weekend is now enough reason to cross a border. The destinations driving this surge, from Bali to Dubai, all share easy visa access, and that convenience is redefining how India travels,' said Mohak Nahta, founder and chief executive of Atlys.

With FASTag already widely adopted across India, the annual pass offers convenience, reduced waiting times at tolls, and easy activation through the Rajmargyatra App or NHAI website , making travel smoother for frequent highway commuters. By the fourth day, total sign-ups crossed the landmark figure of five lakh. The enthusiasm for the FASTag Annual Pass was visible from day one. Till 7 pm on the first day, about 1.39 lakh toll plaza transactions were recorded, reflecting active usage. Download Rajmarg Yatra app or visit NHAI website The annual pass can be activated only via the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application (available on Android and iOS) or the official NHAI website. Make sure you have a stable internet connection and the latest version of the app to avoid technical issues during activation. 2. Log in and verify eligibility Log in using your mobile number or vehicle registration number (VRN). Make sure your FASTag is active, correctly affixed to the vehicle, linked to a valid VRN, and not blacklisted. 'Monkey business': Morning coffee of a couple turns chaotic as monkey barges into Mussoorie hotel room
Monkeys' playful behaviour is a normal sight for people living in the hills, often adding a mix of fun and chaos to daily life. For tourists, however, it can seem strange and even scary. A monkey raided a Mussoorie hotel room, eating ladoos and biscuits while exploring.(@shunalikhullarshroff1/Instagram) For one tourist couple in Mussoorie, this became a very real experience during their morning coffee at a hotel. The chaos was captured in an Instagram reel that has amused viewers across social media. The video was shared by writer and podcaster, Shunali Khullar Shroff, with the caption, 'An adventurous morning involving a fat monkey at the tres' charming and centuries-old Savoy Hotel Mussoorie.' According to the post, Shroff had just started enjoying her morning coffee on the hotel balcony when a monkey suddenly jumped onto the balcony, lightly shoved her, and slipped into the hotel room. Playful monkey causes chaos: With the door bolted from inside, Shroff found herself locked out on the balcony. She then asked her husband to stay in the bathroom while she called the hotel staff for help. In the video, the monkey is seen enjoying some ladoos and exploring the room. 'Once inside, the monkey discovered the minibar and helped itself to some Independence Day ladoos. Realising it was trapped, the monkey started banging on the balcony door,' she adds. A tug of war followed, with Shroff holding the door from outside while the monkey pulled from inside. The hotel staff said they could not help, as the room was bolted from the inside.
