Mastodon rocker Brent Hinds dead at 51 after horror Atlanta motorcycle crash
Brent Hinds, the former singer-guitarist for the Grammy-winning heavy metal band Mastodon, has died in a motorcycle crash in Atlanta aged 51. Hinds, who left Mastodon after 25 years in March 2025, was killed on Wednesday when his Harley-Davidson collided with a BMW SUV around 11.35pm per Atlanta News Firs t. The Atlanta Police Department said in a report the driver of the SUV failed to yield while making a turn - with Hinds found 'unresponsive' at the scene and later pronounced dead by medics. 'The male appeared to be operating a Harley Davidson during the time of collision. Medical personnel pronounced the male deceased' the report states. 'The other driver involved, a female who occupied a BMW SUV remained on scene. The APD Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene to determine the circumstances. 'Preliminary investigation indicates the male was traveling West on Boulevard. The female operating the BMW SUV failed to yield while turning left and collided into the male victim who was operating the Harley-Davidson. The investigation remains active at this time.' The band paid an emotional tribute to Hinds in an Instagram statement which read: 'We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… last night Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. 'We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we've shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. 'Our hearts are with Brent's family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone's privacy during this difficult time. RIP Brent.' Mastodon had three albums rise into the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart and two that topped the Rock Album chart - Emperor of Sand in 2017 and Once More ´round the Sun in 2014. Hinds co-founded Mastodon in 2000 with bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor. Mastodon´s third studio album, 2006´s Blood Mountain, was their first to reach the Top 40, peaking at No. 32 on the Billboard 200. Hinds left the band in March 2025. No reason for the departure was given. The band said they had 'mutually decided to part ways,' but comments made by Hinds on Instagram indicated a rocky relationship with the members of his former band. 'We´re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we´ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors,' the band said at the time. Mastodon earned six Grammy Award nominations, winning one in 2017 for best metal performance for Sultan's Curse from the album Emperor of Sand. Rolling Stone magazine listed Mastodon's 2011 album The Hunter among its best off the year, saying the band had 'streamlined their molten thrash into a taut thwump that doesn´t pull back one bit on their natural complexity of innate weirdness.' Hinds was due to tour Europe later this year with Fiend Without a Face, a band that was once a side project during his years with Mastodon.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are making a major change ahead of the new season of college football kicking off - but not everyone is a fan. Notre Dame's football team unveiled a new logo Thursday, revamping its iconic signature Leprechaun. The team's new logo features the mythical Irish being toting a football as the athletic department begins a mass overhaul of its sports teams' identities. The change is the first in a series of moves which will see more specific marks representing each unique sport on the Fighting Irish's varsity calendar being released. The new mark was designed in-house by Fighting Irish Media, with input from the school's athletic programs. The logos were inspired by photo, fundamentals and running styles from former and current student-athletes. The change marks the first time the logo was updated in 60 years. The Fighting Irish have competed under the original design since the 1960s when the logo first appeared on the cover of TIME magazine on November 20, 1964. And the traditionalists among the Notre Dame fanbase are far from impressed with the upheaval. 'Throwing 60 years of tradition out the window. All for money, lame,' one fan wrote in reaction to the new design on social media. 'If it ain't broke don't fix it,' another wrote. 'Fighting Irish logo is the best in all of sports. Alternate logo? Sure.'

Williams told the magazine: "I've heard negative comments, along with a tremendous amount of positive comments, about my body my entire life. "I don't really care what people are saying about my body any more. But what is important to me is transparency. 'I'm the mom of two girls, and I wanted to be very honest about what I'm doing so they can always be the same with me and we can have an open relationship,' she continued. She has now become the celebrity patient ambassador for Ro - the telehealth company behind the Zepbound weight loss jabs she used. The tennis star opened up about her struggles with losing weight after pregnancy. Everything you need to know about fat jabs WEIGHT loss jabs are all the rage as studies and patient stories reveal they help people shed flab at almost unbelievable rates, as well as appearing to reduce the risk of serious diseases. Wegovy – a modified version of type 2 diabetes drug Ozempic – and Mounjaro are the leading weight loss injections used in the UK. Wegovy, real name semaglutide, has been used on the NHS for years while Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a newer and more powerful addition to the market. Mounjaro accounts for most private prescriptions for weight loss and is set to join Wegovy as an NHS staple this year. How do they work? The jabs work by suppressing your appetite, making you eat less so your body burns fat for energy instead and you lose weight. They do this my mimicking a hormone called GLP-1, which signals to the brain when the stomach is full, so the drugs are officially called GLP-1 receptor agonists. They slow down digestion and increase insulin production, lowering blood sugar, which is why they were first developed to treat type 2 diabetes in which patients' sugar levels are too high. Can I get them? NHS prescriptions of weight loss drugs, mainly Wegovy and an older version called Saxenda (chemical name liraglutide), are controlled through specialist weight loss clinics. Typically a patient will have to have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher, classifying them as medically obese, and also have a weight-related health condition such as high blood pressure. GPs generally do not prescribe the drugs for weight loss. Private prescribers offer the jabs, most commonly Mounjaro, to anyone who is obese (BMI of 30+) or overweight (BMI 25-30) with a weight-related health risk. Private pharmacies have been rapped for handing them out too easily and video calls or face-to-face appointments are now mandatory to check a patient is being truthful about their size and health. Are there any risks? Yes – side effects are common but most are relatively mild. Around half of people taking the drug experience gut issues, including sickness, bloating, acid reflux, constipation and diarrhoea. Dr Sarah Jarvis, GP and clinical consultant at said: 'One of the more uncommon side effects is severe acute pancreatitis, which is extremely painful and happens to one in 500 people.' Other uncommon side effects include altered taste, kidney problems, allergic reactions, gallbladder problems and hypoglycemia. Evidence has so far been inconclusive about whether the injections are damaging to patients' mental health. Figures obtained by The Sun show that, up to January 2025, 85 patient deaths in the UK were suspected to be linked to the medicines. She said: 'I was putting in the work,' she said. 'I actually think it's a problem a lot of other women can relate to, that you are in the gym and eating healthy, but just can't get to the level you want or need to. I feel lighter mentally, I feel sexier, I feel more confident.' Considered as one of the greatest players of modern Tennis, Williams won the 2017 Australian Open while pregnant. She is now campaigning for Ro, which sells Eli Lilly's Zepbound and Novo Nordisk's Wegovy as part of its weight loss programme.
