Drake's and New Balance launch made-in-UK Allerdale collab

Fashion Network5 hours ago

British menswear label Drake's has linked up with sports-casual brand New Balance for a collab that has reworked the latter's still-new Made in UK Allerdale shoe.
The collab may be focused on a newly introduced silhouette from New Balance (it only launched earlier this year) but the company said it has 'the feel of an old favourite'.
It's made of brown leather and pigskin, with a FuelCell-equipped cup sole and Ortholite insole, Japanese nylon ripstop tongue, embroidered flying NB logo and unique D-ring lacing, complete with three pairs of paracord-inspired laces, 'channelling the UK's legacy of country pursuits and craftsmanship'.
The idea is that it's a 'shoe fit for the fells and the city, and everything in between'.
Drake's creative director Michael Hill said he'd wanted to work with New Balance for some time as he's 'always admired their approach to classic design, quality and their appreciation for doing things the right way. It felt like a natural fit'.
He added that the 'Allerdale feels vintage, in the best way possible, we wanted to embrace that with the addition of brown leather, green suede and a jolt of orange paracord with the laces. These are colour and materials that we often incorporate into Drake's collections'.
But it's not just about shoes. To coincide with the launch Hill and New Balance came up with a limited edition collection that 'highlights the British outdoors and a handful of Drake's staples'. That includes an unstructured Games blazer and matching fatigue trousers in waxed herringbone cotton, a packable shirt, cagoule and utility vest in ripstop nylon, hiking shorts and button-down shirts, graphic T-shirts, knitted ties, and a tote bag that's made up of all the fabrics used throughout the collection.
And there's a campaign film too featuring actor and comedian Charlie Cooper as he road tests the Allerdale and the limited-edition collection in the Lake District.

Winning design selected for UK memorial to Queen Elizabeth II

The winning design for the national memorial for Queen Elizabeth II has been announced and will feature commemorative gardens, a translucent glass bridge and a statue of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. British studio Foster + Partners has been selected to honour Britain's longest-reigning monarch through their ambitious design, to be built in St James's Park in central London. The proposal was selected by the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Committee from a shortlist of five. It was praised for its "impressive" design that is "capable of creating an engaging landmark". "Foster + Partners' ambitious and thoughtful masterplan will allow us and future generations to appreciate Queen Elizabeth's life of service as she balanced continuity and change with strong values, common sense and optimism throughout her long reign," said committee chair Robin Janvrin. The design, envisioned by the studio alongside artist Yinka Shonibare, landscape architect Michel Desvigne and ecologist Professor Nigel Dunnett, will be finalised and revealed next year. The concept seeks to honour Queen Elizabeth II's ability to balance dualities – namely tradition and modernity, and formal and informal elements. To represent this, the design encompasses two new gates and two new gardens that will sit either side of St James's Park Lake, and be connected by the Unity Bridge. The "unifying path" will feature a cast-glass balustrade inspired by Queen Elizabeth's 1947 wedding tiara. "At the heart of our masterplan is a translucent bridge symbolic of Her Majesty as a unifying force, bringing together nations, countries, the Commonwealth, charities and the armed forces," said studio founder Norman Foster. Foster is known for his designs for the Gherkin skyscraper and Millennium Bridge in London, as well as renovations of the Reichstag in Berlin.

GapStudio launches summer drop with Lila Moss campaign

Gap 's latest GapStudio drop arrives in-store this week with made-for-summer styles featuring lightweight denim being fronted in a campaign starring British model Lila Moss. Designed by Zac Posen, EVP & Creative Director of Gap, there's a big spotlight on the brand's all-new draped denim, that we're told has 'a liquid-soft hand feel and breezy lightness that offers an easy, effortless flow'. It also has a 'sun-faded finish' for a ' lived-in look' and design details like let-down hems that reveal tonal contrast. Denim isn't the only focus, of course, as the drop is also built around chambray and voile that add to the feeling of lightness. Posen said: 'It's about the sensation of that first walk along the ocean in jeans. We wanted fabrics that are soft, light, breezy — capturing the feeling of summer, while honouring the heritage of Gap.' Key pieces include denim baggy jeans, a draped denim playsuit, denim crop shirts and voile separates 'that blur the line between beach cover-up and streetwear', and crepe dresses in an 'abstract, smile-inducing print'. Plus there's a voile and draped denim shirt dress that the brand also calls a 'Gaptan' that 'offers ethereal lightness with an elevated wash and drape'.
