Israel launches fresh airstrikes on Iran's Fordow nuclear site
ISTANBUL: Israel launched new airstrikes on the Fordow nuclear site, south of the Iranian capital Tehran, on Monday, Anadolu Agency (AA) reported, citing Iranian media.
"Moments ago, the aggressor enemy attacked the Fordow nuclear site again," said a spokesperson from the Qom Province Crisis Management Headquarters.
The semi-official Tasnim News Agency confirmed the attack but did not provide details about the damage.
The strike came a day after United States forces bombed three nuclear sites in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
Israel and Iran have been engaged in aerial combat since June 13, when Tel Aviv launched a surprise attack on several sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting Tehran to respond with retaliatory strikes.
At least 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.

Malaysia Calls For Unity Among OIC Member States Amid Rising Tensions In Middle East
KUALA LUMPUR, June 23 (Bernama) -- Malaysia seized the global stage at the recently concluded 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Istanbul, calling for unity among member states to confront the challenges facing the Islamic world, particularly the Palestine issue and escalating tensions in the Middle East. Delivering the country's national statement, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan strongly condemned the atrocities committed by Israel, describing them as egregious crimes against humanity that must be stopped immediately. He also urged all parties to intensify international efforts towards the recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday. bootstrap slideshow Mohamad also expressed deep concern over the rise in discrimination against Muslims and proposed that the OIC collaborate closely with the United Nations to foster religious tolerance and combat the spread of Islamophobia. He also emphasised the need for the OIC to broaden the Trade Preferential System and lower trade barriers among Member States amid the ongoing geopolitical challenges. Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister also took part in two OIC sideline meetings: the Extraordinary Session of the OIC CFM addressing the Israeli Attacks on Iran, and the OIC Contact Group Meeting concerning Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. At the Emergency CFM Meeting on the Israeli Attack on Iran, Mohamad urged the OIC to leverage its international influence to promptly halt Israel's assaults, which pose a serious threat to the stability of the Middle East. He emphasised that lasting peace can only be secured through decisive dialogue and diplomacy. Meanwhile, at the OIC Contact Group Meeting on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, Mohamad outlined Malaysia's priorities as ASEAN Chair in addressing the Rohingya issue. He also encouraged OIC Member States to engage with stakeholders with a view of supporting peace in Myanmar. At the sidelines of the CFM, Mohamad held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from 19 countries including, Iran, Syria, and Turkiye, discussing ways to strengthen cooperation and address shared concerns, including the situation in Palestine and regional tensions in the Middle East.

Russia ready to assist Iran amid Middle East escalation
ISTANBUL: Russia is ready to assist Iran in various ways amid the ongoing escalation in the Middle East, depending on Tehran's needs, the Kremlin said on Monday. According to Anadolu Agency, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia had offered mediation, but it would depend on what Iran required. "We have stated our position; this is also a very important manifestation — a form of support for the Iranian side," he said. Israel and Iran have been engaged in aerial combat since June 13, when Tel Aviv launched a surprise attack on several sites across Iran, including military and nuclear facilities, prompting retaliatory strikes from Tehran. Meanwhile, the United States struck three main Iranian nuclear sites early Sunday, with US President Donald Trump claiming severe damage to the facilities and their "obliteration." Commenting on the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Moscow, Peskov said the talks would allow both sides to exchange views and give Tehran an opportunity to convey its proposals and position on the current situation. Peskov added that the growing number of actors involved in the conflict was deeply regrettable and condemned by Russia. "Iran was repeatedly discussed between Putin and Trump during their recent conversations, but the Russian president was not informed of Sunday's strikes. "We believe that the fate of a country's leadership should be decided by its own people — not by third countries or their leaders," he said, in response to a question about Trump's remarks regarding regime change in Iran. He added that the US strikes would not affect dialogue between Moscow and Washington, as these were "independent processes". "It remains to be seen what happened to these nuclear facilities, and whether there is a radiation hazard. Although the IAEA has said there are currently no signs of radiation contamination, these developments are, of course, cause for legitimate concern," Peskov said. — BERNAMA
