PHNOM PENH - The body of a missing French backpacker has been found in Cambodia, police told AFP on Aug 5, saying she is thought to have suffered a cardiac arrest.
The 23-year-old, named by French media as Ms Lisa Girard-Fabre, from southwest France, was found dead near Siem Reap, the main city for Cambodia's famed Angkor Wat temple complex.
Lieutenant Colonel Sok Meng Eang from Siem Reap police told AFP that the woman was found dead in a dried canal on Aug 4 after she had been missing for two days.
'Police found her body in a dried canal near Siem Reap city on Aug 4,' he said.
An autopsy found that she died from a cardiac arrest and her body has been given to the French Embassy, he said. It is expected to be repatriated in the coming days.
'There were no injuries on her body or any sign of abuse against her,' Mr Sok Meng Eang said, adding that her belongings, including her phone, were found at the site and that her clothes were in good condition.
French newspaper Depeche du Midi reported that the woman went missing after going running on her own.

Featured News Singapore News MALAYSIA: Yet another Singapore-registered car driver has been caught on camera illegally pumping subsidised RON95 petrol from a petrol station in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The latest incident took place on Saturday (9 Aug), coincidentally Singapore's National Day. Malaysian authorities have confirmed to local paper China Press that they have launched an investigation into the matter. The photograph published by China Press shows a male driver of a white car with a Singapore license plate filling his petrol tank with RON95 petrol. As it is a subsidised petrol, RON95 is only supposed to be sold to Malaysians. Foreign drivers are prohibited from pumping RON95 petrol. Malaysian authorities have pointed out that the incident could have been prevented as the petrol pump was located right in front of the counter. Questioning whether the petrol station operator was negligent, the authorities have said that they will review surveillance footage to check if the operator has violated the law. Some politicians in Malaysia are also calling for enforcement action against the foreign drivers who flout rules as well, instead of only targeting petrol station operators. These politicians are calling on the government to update current regulations to allow the authorities to take action directly against drivers. This is the second such incident so far in August alone. On Aug 3, another Singapore-registered car driver was caught on camera illegally pumping RON95 petrol. Where Israel accused Mr al-Sharif of being a 'terrorist' affiliated with Hamas, the press freedom campaign group told AFP he was 'one of the most famous journalists from the Gaza Strip (and) the voice of the suffering Israel has imposed on Palestinians in Gaza'. The non-governmental organisation 'strongly and angrily condemns the acknowledged murder by the Israeli army' of Mr al-Sharif and other journalists in a strike on their tent in Gaza City on Aug 10 , it added. Al Jazeera, a Qatari broadcaster, said on Aug 10 that five of its journalists had been killed in an Israeli strike.
