Genesis pledges $8 million to wildfire relief, partners with PGA Tour for other initiatives
The PGA Tour, Genesis and TGR Live are launching the California Rises initiative at the 2025 Genesis Invitational, being played this year at Torrey Pines, to help relief and recovery efforts for communities affected by the California wildfires.
Genesis will donate $8 million in 100 tournament vehicles and cash contributions. The Genesis Invitational will serve as a platform to highlights stories of resilience and response from the community, first responders and charitable organizations.
'We all want to help after the devastating wildfires. Southern California is our home and the location of our North American headquarters and design studio,' said Jose Munoz, president and global chief executive officer at Genesis, in a release. 'We are contributing $8 million dollars in car and cash donations to support organizations instrumental in the relief and rebuilding efforts. Together with our partners at TGR Live and the PGA Tour, the focus of the 2025 Genesis Invitational will be helping those affected by the wildfires through California Rises.'
Because of the wildfires in the Pacific Palisades area, the Genesis Invitational was moved from Riviera Country Club to Torrey Pines in La Jolla, outside of San Diego.

'The Genesis Invitational has called Los Angeles home for nearly a century and has a long-standing history of positively impacting the community,' said Mike Antolini, tournament director of The Genesis Invitational, in a release. 'Although we are not at Riviera this year, we are proud to be part of California Rises in support of the relief efforts.'
Proceeds of California Rises will go to four charitable organizations: American Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, California Fire Foundation and Genesis Inspiration Foundation.
During tournament competition, every shot will have extra incentive through 'Birdies for Good.' For every birdie and eagle made during the Genesis Invitational, $300 will be donated to California Rises, with $10,000 donated should a hole-in-one occur.
Ticket fees from all tickets purchased for the 2025 tournament will be donated to the California Rises initiative, and tournament attendees can purchase California Rises merchandise available at the tournament shop and Torrey Pines pro shop, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to charity.
'The game of golf has always played a role in bringing people together for a common cause, and the PGA Tour is proud to support the efforts of the California Rises initiative at The Genesis Invitational,' PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a release. 'We commend Genesis, Tiger Woods and TGR Live for their leadership and we are grateful to Farmers Insurance, Mayor Todd Gloria and the City of San Diego and the Century Club for their collective efforts as we relocated the Genesis Invitational to Torrey Pines.'
In addition to donations, the Genesis Invitational will highlight first responders, front-line workers and those personally affected by the wildfires. First responders and firefighters from California will be on-site as guests of the tournament with exclusive access, including spots in the official tournament pro-am, interactions with PGA Tour players and special recognition throughout the week as a thank you for their services.
Their stories, and those of the four California Rises beneficiaries, will be highlighted during the live tournament broadcast on Golf Channel, CBS and PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ and across PGA Tour social platforms.

Howard Schultz says he is a big fan of Brian Niccol's 'brilliant' Starbucks revival strategy

Howard Schultz, the former chair and CEO of Starbucks, enthusiastically lauded Brian Niccol's turnaround plan for the coffee chain at a company event on Wednesday. Schultz was speaking at "Starbucks Leadership Experience 2025," an event which saw over 14,000 North American store managers gather in Las Vegas, when he praised Niccol's work. The former and current CEOs of Starbucks discussed the company's future during a fireside chat on Wednesday. "I want to say, when I heard you speak for the first time about 'Back to Starbucks,' I did a cartwheel in my living room," Schultz told Niccol. "First of all, it was so brilliant. It's short. It's to the point, and it's exactly the tip of the spear of who we should be, and who we are. And we are, above all else, a coffee company," Schultz added. Niccol was the CEO of the Mexican grill chain Chipotle before he became the CEO of Starbucks in September. Niccol's predecessor, Laxman Narasimhan, stepped down after 17 months. During Narasimhan's tenure as CEO, the company struggled with declining sales in the US and China. Schultz publicly criticized Starbucks' management in a LinkedIn post he wrote in May 2024. Schultz said the coffee chain's senior leaders and board members "need to spend more time with those who wear the green apron" and overhaul its retail strategy. "The stores require a maniacal focus on the customer experience, through the eyes of a merchant. The answer does not lie in data, but in the stores," Schultz wrote on LinkedIn. That idea of focusing on stores was echoed in Niccol's " Back to Starbucks" plan, which he unveiled shortly after taking over as CEO. "Today, I'm making a commitment: We're getting back to Starbucks. We're refocusing on what has always set Starbucks apart — a welcoming coffeehouse where people gather, and where we serve the finest coffee, handcrafted by our skilled baristas," Niccol wrote in an open letter in September. Starbucks announced its second-quarter earnings in April. The company reported $8.8 billion in net revenue, slightly lower than the $8.83 billion estimate compiled by Bloomberg. "Our financial results don't yet reflect our progress, but we have real momentum with our 'Back to Starbucks' plan," Niccol said in April. Starbucks' stock is up by over 4.5% year to date.
