The ratings are in, and the 2025 Genesis Invitational was most-watched non-major since 2024 Players

The ratings are in, and the 2025 Genesis Invitational was most-watched non-major since 2024 Players The first four events of the golf season for CBS are in the books, and the finale of the West Coast Swing ended with an exclamation point. The final-round broadcast of the 2025 Genesis Invitational averaged 3.4 million viewers, making it the most-watched non-major broadcast since the 2024 Players Championship (3.5 million). Coverage peaked at 4.2 million viewers. The figure is up 200,000 from Hideki Matsuyama's 2024 win at Riviera Country Club. A great venue, a packed leaderboard and Tiger Woods, the tournament host, joining Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman in the 18th hole tower for more than 30 minutes in the final round were all important factors. The final numbers for CBS' four early-season tournaments are as follows: 1.4 million for the Farmers Insurance Open (Saturday finish) 3.3 million at Pebble Beach 2.9 million at the WM Phoenix Open 3.4 million for the Genesis For comparison, the final round of the American Express, which was on Golf Channel, drew 232,000 viewers. That was the last final round not on CBS, but NBC takes over third- and final-round coverage of the PGA Tour of the next seven events through the Valero Texas Open in April, the week before the Masters.

Tiger Woods teases unification between PGA Tour, LIV Golf could be happening soon

Tiger Woods teases unification between PGA Tour, LIV Golf could be happening soon Tiger Woods went into the 18th hole tower on Sunday during the final round of the 2025 Genesis Invitational and talked about a multitude of topics. One of his answers late during his interview teased something everyone has been patiently waiting on for nearly two years. It seems reunification of men's professional golf is happening sooner rather than later, especially after President Donald Trump has gotten involved since taking office. Whether it was a round of golf with Rory McIlroy, with Woods last Sunday before the Super Bowl or when Adam Scott and PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan went to the White House last week, wheels are moving on the top players coming together in more than just the major championships. Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman of CBS Sports asked Woods about reunification and the state of men's professional golf, and he gave an insightful answer. "I think we're in a very positive place right now," Woods said. "We had a meeting with the President. Unfortunately I had some other circumstances that came up but Jay (Monahan) and Adam (Scott), they did great during the meeting. We have another subsequent meeting coming up. "I think things are going to heal quickly. We are getting this game going in the right direction, it's been headed in the wrong direction for a number of years. The fans want all of us to play together, all the top players to play together and we are going to make that happen." Woods' comments echoed what others have said in recent weeks, that it seems the wheels are actually moving and things are looking up. How soon could it be? "It could be this year? Or it could be very soon this year?,' asked Nantz. "Yes. Yes and yes," Woods responded while laughing. That's positive news for fans of professional golf, but only time will tell how and when unification will happen.

The top-ranked player in the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld field has withdrawn

The top-ranked player in the Mexico Open at VidantaWorld field has withdrawn Show Caption Hide Caption Ludvig Aberg talks about meaningful win at Genesis Invitational 2025 Ludvig Aberg talks about how meaningful his win at the 2025 Genesis Invitational is. The Mexico Open at VidantaWorld is in a difficult spot on the PGA Tour schedule. Sandwiched between the West Coast and Florida Swings, many of the PGA Tour's top players take a break before some of the more notorious events in Florida, like the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship. The initial field commitment list in Mexico featured no top-20 players and only four in the top 40 in the Official World Golf Ranking. And on Monday, the field lost its top-ranked player. Maverick McNealy, fresh off his runner-up finish at the 2025 Genesis Invitational, withdrew from the Mexico Open on Monday. Ranked 14th after the OWGR update on Monday, McNealy fired an incredible 8-under 64 on Sunday and held the lead throughout much of the final round at Torrey Pines until Ludvig Aberg sank a birdie putt on the 72nd hole to win by one shot. If McNealy would've played in Mexico, it would have been his seventh start in eight events this year. Now, the field is lacking even more stars. The biggest names teeing it up this week are No. 29 Aaron Rai and No. 30 Akshay Bhatia, the only players in the top 40 of OWGR playing at VidantaWorld. Defending champion Jake Knapp is back, as well. Outside of those notables, it's a rank-and-file field. U.S. Amateur champion Josele Ballester is playing on a sponsor exemption for the second time in three weeks, and 17-year-old Blades Brown will make his second start as a pro. Perhaps it's an event where someone will become the second first-time Tour winner in 2025. The winner in Mexico will take home $1.26 million from the $7 million purse and 500 FedEx Cup points. For his runner-up finishes at the Genesis, McNealy collected $2.2 million.

Who won the 2025 Genesis Invitational? Results, scoreboard from tournament

Despite being ranked among the top-10 golfers in the world, Swedish sensation Ludvig Aberg only had one PGA Tour win under his belt heading into the 2025 Genesis Invitational, back in November 2023. However, thanks to a tremendous final round 66, one stroke off the the lowest score ever tallied by a champion at Torrey Pines, Aberg was able to comeback from a deficit to win the event by one stroke over second-place Maverick McNealy. 🚨 LUDVIG FOR THE 🔥 — Pin Point Golf (@PinPointGolfers) February 16, 2025 With the win, Aberg not only claims the biggest championship of his young career, but the biggest check as well, bringing home $4 million. While McNealy and world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler each had opportunities to take the trophy, piling up a myriad of birdies throughout the final round, nobody was able to keep pace with Aberg's remarkable play. The Swede shot a phenomenal 32 on the back-nine which included four birdies over his final six holes. Here are highlights and the leaderboard from the 2025 Genesis Invitational.
