Spy satellite agency says law enforcement probing 'incident' affecting contracting site
The National Reconnaissance Office said in a brief statement that there had been "an incident involving our unclassified Acquisition Research Center website" which was currently being probed "in collaboration with federal law enforcement." The office declined further comment.
The statement follows a Washington Times story alleging that hackers had targeted intellectual property and personal information submitted via the Acquisition Research Center website in support of CIA spying programs.
The Acquisition Research Center provides a path for businesses to bid for intelligence contracts or pitch spy agencies on their products and services; it markets itself as a "portal for business opportunities for acquisitions across the Intelligence Community."
The Times story, which cited people familiar with the activity, said hackers likely obtained details about technologies used in CIA operations, including a program aimed at Chinese spies called "Digital Hammer."
The FBI, which typically investigates cyber or counterintelligence matters, didn't immediately return a message seeking comment. The CIA referred questions back to the National Reconnaissance Office.

'We are committed to working alongside the City of Saint Paul to restore cybersecurity as quickly as possible,' Walz said in a statement released by his office on Tuesday. He continued: 'The Minnesota National Guard's cyber forces will collaborate with city, state, and federal officials to resolve the situation and mitigate lasting impacts. Above all, we are committed to protecting the safety and security of the people of Saint Paul.' Carter said at the press conference local officials took 'swift action to defend our systems' by retaining two cybersecurity firms 'to support our recovery' and working with local, state and federal law enforcement, including the FBI, 'to trace the source and scope of the breach.' Local officials shut down the city's information systems on Monday 'to contain the threat,' which is the source of some outages, including the loss of Wi-Fi in city buildings, according to the mayor. Carter said later in the press conference that 911 services were operating 'as normal,' but the city has experienced some 'back-end' challenges. 'We recognize that these outages have created inconveniences for residents and city staff alike. While these disruptions are difficult, they are necessary steps to limit exposure, preserve system integrity, and protect sensitive information as our investigation and recovery efforts continue,' Carter said. The mayor said the National Guard's cyber security experts were 'actively assisting' the city. Carter also noted he was issuing a local declaration of emergency 'to give our teams the tools we need to move quickly and respond with the urgency this situation demands.'

The Australian -born Epstein said he's been making a point to remind people that he's not the notorious child sex trafficker and former pal of Donald Trump, Jeffrey Epstein. The infamous Epstein died in 2019 in the Metropolitan Detention Center while he was awaiting trial, but that hasn't stopped angry — and apparently quite out of date — commenters on social media demanding that he "show us the files," referring to the rumored Epstein client list. 'My guy. Might wanna pull out of the race if that's your name. Or, you could show us the files,' one commenter wrote on the mayoral candidate's Facebook page. Thankfully, according to the mayoral candidate, most of his prospective constituents can differentiate the two. He told Politico that "no one locally cares about that at all," noting that the Epstein with the creepy island was "a dead American, and I'm an alive Australian." It's an especially tough time to have Epstein as a surname if you're involved in politics, as the disgraced financier has been front and center in the news due to the Trump administration's failure to produce the sex trafficker's rumored 'client list.' After Trump and Bondi failed to produce the alleged client list, some of Trump's longtime supporters — including podcaster Joe Rogan and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino — criticized the White House's handling of the situation. But it's not all bad news for Geoffrey Epstein; another politician who shares both his first and last names with men accused of horrific crimes not only ran for office, but won. According to Politico, New York state assembly member Harvey Epstein — whose name is the unfortunate combination of disgraced film producer Harvey Weinstein's first name and Epstein's surname — feels the Australian mayor-hopeful's pain, but believes there's a lot more to a person than a name. 'My advice to Geoffrey would be to lead with your values and who you are as a candidate,' Harvey said. 'People will support you if you do the work and follow through.' Epstein — who goes by Geoff — told the publication he got into the race to try to tackle issues he's seen with the city's infrastructure, environmental action, and education. He's pitched expanding solar installation on school roofs and parking lots, and using more of the city's funds to pay for education. He's got strong competition in the city's incumbent Mayor Charlie Sisitsky, but if Harvey Epstein can pull it out despite his name, maybe there is hope for Geoffrey.

Chile hands luxury watches stolen from Keanu Reeves over to the FBI
Chilean authorities said they turned six valuable watches stolen from Canadian actor Keanu Reeves over to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation, months after recovering them in a police raid. One of the stolen watches is an engraved Rolex worth at least 9,500 dollars. The FBI will arrange for their return to Reeves, best known for his roles in action franchises like The Matrix and John Wick. Chilean prosecutors told reporters that Reeves had identified the watches as those stolen from his Los Angeles home during a string of high-profile burglaries in December 2023. The announcement was made as the Trump administration's secretary of homeland security, Kristi Noem, arrived in the South American country for meetings with Chilean officials about transnational crime, among other issues. Ms Noem was also the victim of a robbery attributed to a Chilean national residing illegally in the US, when her handbag was stolen last April at a Washington restaurant. Reeves' six watches are valued at a total of 125,000 dollars (£93,550), said Marcelo Varas, a police officer from Chile's robbery investigation squad. The watches stolen from Reeves' Hollywood Hills home turned up in Santiago, Chile's capital, when police raided homes and uncovered stolen cars, iPhones, luxury watches and designer handbags. That operation coincided with another Chilean investigation, co-ordinated with the FBI, into a spate of burglaries by South America-based crime groups targeting multimillion-dollar homes in the US, many belonging to celebrities and professional athletes, such as Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce. In April, police in Chile announced the arrest of 23 citizens over the string of break-ins. Mr Varas said authorities were still investigating any link between the theft of Reeves' watches and the other high-profile burglaries.
