Man struck by gunfire while walking down south Minneapolis street, police say
Police say officers were dispatched at about 10:15 p.m. to the area of East 35th Street and 13th Avenue South, just a few blocks northeast of Abbott Northwestern Hospital in the Midtown Phillips area.
The victim was found injured near an alleyway, telling police he "was walking in the area when shots were fired," with a single round striking him.
Police say he suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at Hennepin Healthcare.
According to the city's crime dashboard, 158 people have been injured by gunfire so far this year, with 25 of those shootings in just the past 28 days.
Both Minneapolis and St. Paul have seen significant decreases in violent crime in 2025. Minneapolis tallied 3,418 reports of shots fired this time last year, with the number currently approaching 2,720.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara recently told WCCO's Esme Murphy the number of shooting victims is currently below pre-pandemic levels.
"I don't think it's any one thing that we're doing. It's a number of strategies that have been working in partnership with a lot of different law enforcement agencies as well as community-based organizations," O'Hara said late last month. "[The latest shots-fired stats are] very significant because I know that's what the city also got judged against prior to the pandemic."
No arrests have been made in Monday night's shooting, and police say they're still investigating.

While employed by the Heat, the press release states, Perez "was among a limited number of trusted individuals with access to a secured equipment room" where "hundreds of game-worn jerseys and other memorabilia" were being stored to be displayed at a future Heat museum. "During his employment, Perez accessed the equipment room multiple times to steal over 400 game-worn jerseys and other items, which he then sold to various online marketplaces," the press release states. "Over a three-year period, Perez sold over 100 stolen items for approximately $2 million and shipped them across state lines, often for prices well below their market value." Perez allegedly sold the jersey for around $100,000; it was sold in an online auction for $3.7 million in 2023. In executing a search warrant at Perez's home April 3, law enforcement "seized nearly 300 additional stolen game-worn jerseys and memorabilia," all of which the Heat confirmed had been stolen from their facility, according to the press release. 5 soldiers wounded by fellow soldier in shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia; suspect in custody, officials say
The alleged shooter, identified as Sgt. Quornelius Radford, was quickly "subdued" by other soldiers, Brig. Gen. John Lubas told reporters. Five soldiers were shot and wounded on Wednesday at a U.S. Army base in Georgia by a fellow soldier in a workplace shooting that prompted a lockdown, officials there say. In a post on its Facebook page, Fort Stewart Hunter Army Airfield said the shooting occurred in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area shortly before 11 a.m. local time. The alleged shooter was identified as Quornelius Radford, a 28-year-old automated logistics sergeant assigned to the 2nd Brigade Team. At a press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Brig. Gen. John Lubas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, said Radford was quickly "subdued" by fellow soldiers before law enforcement arrived. "Soldiers in the area that witnessed the shooting immediately, and without hesitation tackled the soldier, subdued him, and allowed law enforcement to then take him into custody," Lubas said. "These soldiers without a doubt prevented further casualties." All five of the victims were transported to the hospital in stable condition, Lubas said. Three of the victims required surgery, and all are expected to recover. According to Lubas, the shooting occurred at Radford's place of work and involved his co-workers, but he would not speculate on a motive. Lubas said that Radford used a personal handgun, not a military-issued weapon, and that the incident remains under investigation. Saskatoon Police investigate recent suspicious death as a homicide
A suspicious death last week is now being investigated as a homicide. At about 12:40 a.m. on July 31, Saskatoon police got a report of an injured person. They were called to an address in the 300 block of Avenue J South, near Optimist Park in Saskatoon. There, responders found a 27-year-old woman dead, and it was listed as suspicious at the time. The death marks Saskatoon's 7th homicide of the year. The Saskatoon Police Service's Major Crime Section is continuing the investigation, and urge the public to come forward with information and call 306-975-8300 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
