This New Smart Lock From Yale Pairs With Video Doorbells in Ways I Haven't Seen Before
The Matter standard gives the new lock compatibility with platforms like Apple Home and Alexa, but the real value lies in its connections to the Nest Doorbell. Not only does the new oval design look a bit like the doorbell itself, but users can operate the lock directly from the Doorbell video feed, like if they get an app alert and see a family member has stopped by. It reminds me a bit of the Yale/Nest compatibility with the ADT Plus app, but you don't need a security system or extra app this time, just Google Home.

Even without the Nest Doorbell compatibility, the Yale Smart Lock with Matter gets plenty of expected smart lock features, including remote control, notifications about lock activity, autolocking, and the ability to set up literally hundreds of guest profiles and codes if necessary. The lock also has a vacation mode that turns off the keypad if the house won't be accessed for a while.
Matter technology promises to give the Yale Lock a lengthy battery life of up to 12 months. Of course, I'll have to test it for an extended period of time to get a better idea of that part, but provide any noteworthy updates. For now, if you're a Google Nest fan, then you should consider picking this lock up -- or maybe wait for Amazon Prime Day(s) to see if it goes on sale.

His remarks came after readers of Mishaal's article commented that hot water control was still missing, and that the new schedule interface felt like a downgrade compared to the old Nest app. Hot water control lets you do things like set a schedule for heating water, quickly trigger a boost, or switch it on and off manually. That's if your thermostat is connected to a compatible hot water system. Until now, that functionality has required the older Nest app. The move fits into Google's broader effort to consolidate everything in the Home app, reducing the need for the legacy Nest app and streamlining controls across its smart home ecosystem. According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple is planning a wave of AI-infused hardware and software upgrade. The Apple product roadmap reportedly includes a 6-inch smart display, a futuristic robot companion and even a smart security camera; all aimed at turning your home into Siri's new command center. Look out, Alexa+, you may have some real competition now. Overhauled Siri: More conversational, expressive and context-aware Smart home display: A six-inch hub for controlling devices, running Apple Intelligence and managing HomeKit. Siri-powered robot: A motorized tabletop assistant with movement tracking and expressive animations. Smart security camera (2026): AI-enhanced monitoring with facial recognition, smart alerts and deep Siri integration. A Siri-powered robot is in the works Apple is reportedly developing a tabletop robot, and it's aiming for Pixar-level charm. Described as a motorized, lamp-like device that can swivel, track your movements and even dance, the robot would be powered by Apple Intelligence and the upgraded Siri. It's still a few years away (2027 is the target), but this could become Apple's most ambitious hardware project since the original iPhone. A smart display hub is coming A big piece of Apple's smart home revamp could arrive as soon as next year: a six-inch smart display designed to act as a central hub. Mounted on the wall or placed on a table, it will serve as your home's mission control for voice commands, visuals and smart device management. Watch out, Ring: Smart security camera expected in 2026 Apple is also planning to enter the home security market with a smart camera that's deeply integrated with its ecosystem. Set for a 2026 launch, the camera would reportedly work with Siri for voice control and utilize AI for smart notifications, facial recognition, and more, all while maintaining Apple's privacy-first approach at its core. A big upgrade for Siri Siri is getting a major upgrade. Apple is reportedly overhauling Siri to make the assistant more conversational, expressive and intelligent; something critics have long demanded. The company is now working with partners like ChatGPT's OpenAI and Claude's Anthropic to bring next-gen AI to its voice assistant. The overall aim is for a more lifelike Siri that can understand nuance, follow context and interact more naturally, perhaps finally catching up to competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini.
