Shura Council Chairman receives delegation from Iraqi Council of Representatives

Muscat: Khalid bin Hilal Al Maawali, Chairman of the Shura Council, on Sunday received a delegation from the Electricity and Energy Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
The Iraqi delegation is on an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman to exchange expertise with the Shura Council about legislative and economic aspects.
At the outset of the meeting, Al Maawali commended bilateral relations and the strong bonds binding the peoples of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq. He underscored the significance of mutual visits between legislative councils in consolidating parliamentary diplomacy, expertise and supporting bilateral relations in economic and investment fields.
For his part, Mohammed Nouri Abed Rabbo, Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, stressed the importance of maintaining communication and exchanging visits to serve the shared legislative interests of the two countries.
As part of the programme, the Shura Council's Economic and Financial Committee held a joint meeting with the Iraqi Council of Representatives' Electricity and Energy Committee. The meeting was chaired by Ahmed bin Said Al Sharqi, Chairman of the Shura Council's Economic and Financial Committee, and Mohammed Nouri Abed Rabbo, Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
During the meeting, Al Sharqi reviewed the legislative roles undertaken by the Shura Council. He also spoke about the integration between the Shura Council and other institutions of the state within the context of national decision-making and the realization of the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
Al Sharqi also highlighted the tasks of the Council's standing committees, the role of the Secretariat General in providing technical support to members and discussed the Council's efforts to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy in various regional and international forums and meetings.
Al Sharqi spoke about the role of the Shura Council's Economic and Financial Committee in debating draft laws of economic nature, analysing the state's general budget and reviewing economic agreements, in addition to highlighting economic challenges.
For his part, Mohammed Nouri Abed Rabbo spoke about the draft laws being discussed by the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives. The bills include one on regulating electricity production and distribution and promoting investment in the renewable energy sector.
Then, the Iraqi delegation toured the Shura Council's halls and listened to a briefing about modern technologies used in the council's deliberations and the electronic voting process.
The meeting was attended by members of the Shura Council, including Talib bin Khamis Al Balushi, Juma bin Said Al Wahaibi and Abdulaziz bin Rashid Al Hashemi.

This initiative seeks to enhance supply chain efficiency and increase local value-added content. Additionally, the Ministry signed a cooperation program with the Global Retail Company, providing 300 training, qualification, and employment opportunities for national workforce, including 100 direct employment opportunities coupled with training and 200 training opportunities linked to employment. This aims to strengthen the presence of national cadres in the labour market. Dr. Saleh Said Massan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, emphasised that these agreements represent a significant milestone in enhancing national industrial capabilities. He noted that these initiatives complement the implementation of the Industrial Strategy 2040 targets, which focus on developing a diversified industrial sector based on knowledge and technology. He added that the Ministry is working to translate the industrial sector's strategic directions into practical projects and initiatives that contribute to increasing added value, diversifying industrial activities, boosting industrial exports, attracting quality investments, and enhancing investor confidence in the industrial business environment. Eng. Khalid Salim Al Qasabi, Director General of Industry at the Ministry, stated that these programs are implemented in cooperation with specialised institutions to align educational outcomes with the needs of the industrial market. This ensures compatibility with the requirements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and rapid economic transformations, contributing to building a qualified national base capable of leading industrial facilities, improving their production efficiency, and enhancing their competitiveness locally and internationally. The signing ceremony also witnessed the launch of training programmes by Oman Cables Industry as a successful model in industrial training. The event was attended by several ministers, high-ranking officials, and representatives of relevant institutions.

Earlier Monday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a cryptic statement that Iran's state television and radio were "about to disappear." He made the statement after an evacuation warning was issued for a district in northern Tehran where the broadcaster is based. Muscat: The Omani-Bahraini Friendship Association (OBFA) held a regular meeting at the Diplomatic Club in Muscat on Monday. The meeting, attended by representatives from the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Bahrain, discussed key issues related to means of consolidating bilateral relations and developing cooperation programmes. The meeting saw the election of OBFA board members for the period from 2025 to 2028. During the elections, Rudaina Amer Al Hajri was re-elected as Head of the Board of Directors for a second consecutive term. Sheikha Jawahir Al Khalifa was elected as Deputy Head of Board of Directors, while Dr. Ahmed Said Al Jahwari was elected as Secretary-General and Ahmed Mohammed Al Ardi as Treasurer. The meeting also included the restructuring of the Association's standing committees as follows: The Economic Committee (headed by Abdullah Saleh Al Shanfari); the Membership and Affiliation Committee (headed by Manar Malallah Al Balushi); the Communication and Media Committee (headed by Maryam Ghalib Al Alawi); the Programmes and Events Committee (headed by Shihab Ahmed Al Mujaini); and the Sports Committee (headed by Ismail Al Ajmi). Rudaina said in a speech that the OBFA would press ahead with efforts to enhance Oman-Bahrain cooperation in the fields of tourism, culture and economy. She added that the next stage would introduce initiatives and programmes aimed at boosting communication between the peoples of Bahrain and Oman and highlighting their shared values.
