Teenage pedestrian dies in collision involving electric bike and car
South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Staniforth Road in the Darnall area shortly after 4.50pm on Wednesday.
A 16-year-old male pedestrian was taken to hospital but died of his injuries, while an 18-year-old man, who was the rider of the electric bike, remains in hospital with serious injuries.
It was reported that the grey Audi failed to stop at the scene.
Police said a man and woman in their forties have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remain in custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Andy Knowles said: 'We know that this incident will have caused significant concern in the local community, and tonight our thoughts are with the boy's loved ones following this tragic incident.
'Our investigation into what happened is continuing at pace and we currently have a scene in place on Staniforth Road as we continue to piece together the circumstances.
'We are aware of speculation being shared online, as well as footage of the incident, and we ask members of the public to withhold from speculating or sharing footage which may cause distress to the boy's family.
'If you have any footage, imagery or information that may assist our investigation, then please share this with us – it may form an important part of our investigation.'

I couldn't sleep, especially knowing him, that upsets me really. "He was such a young boy."Darnall Labour councillor Mary Lea said: "I can speak for myself and my colleague, councillor Zahira Naz, and say we were shocked when we heard about this incident."My first thoughts were of the family and the boy who lost his life and the tragedy of it all."Our hearts go out to this young man's family at this time; and we can only imagine their grief and pain. We are thinking about them and they [are] in our prayers." Teenager killed in Sheffield hit-and-run named
A teenager who died in a hit-and-run crash in Sheffield has been named as Abdullah Yaha Al-Zaidy. The 16-year-old, better known as "Abdul", was walking along the pavement on Staniforth Road in Darnall when he was hit by a grey Audi car at 4.50pm on Wednesday. The driver of the car, who also collided with an e-bike, left the scene. Abdul died in hospital. The 18-year-old man on the e-bike suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. A 20-year-old man was arrested in Kent on suspicion of murder on Thursday. Three other people have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. In a post announcing Abdul's death, the Facebook page South Yorkshire Janazah Announcement described him as a "beloved member of the Al-Shafeey Centre mosque". It added: "He was reportedly walking to a nearby shop to meet his father, with plans to eat together, when the tragic accident occurred. "It is deeply heartbreaking to see his photo — a boy always smiling, always full of joy. He worked tirelessly alongside his father and had plans to begin college soon." Flowers continue to be left at the scene of the incident, which happened two days before the Muslim festival Eid.

BREAKING NEWS Human remains found in search for Pheobe Bishop's body - after housemates were charged with murder
A body, believed to be that of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop, has been found near where she was last sighted, hours after her two roomates faced court on murder charges. Police were searching an area close to Good Night Scrub National Park, near Gin Gin, in Queensland, this afternoon when they found human remains at 2:30pm. The remains are yet to be formally identified but investigators are talking to the family of the missing 17-year-old. A crime scene has been established at the scene and forensic examinations are ongoing. Police continue to appeal for any information in relation to Pheobe Bishop or the movement of a grey Hyundai IX35 between May 15 to 18 in the greater Gin Gin area. Investigations continue.
