This Texas golf club is getting a $22 million makeover
Golf architect Chet Williams is well known for his work in Texas, including his design of the state's top private golf course on Golfweek's Best list, Whispering Pines.
Now, Williams is being tapped for a full course redesign at a club close to the state's capital in Austin.
According to a release, a $22.3 million master plan that includes a full golf course redesign, expansive clubhouse updates, and racquet sports facility enhancements is set to begin at Great Hills Country Club, which sits in Northwest Austin. This announcement came alongside news that Chip Gist will join the club as general manager and chief operating officer on June 10.
'After an extensive national search, Chip stood out as the clear leader to guide Great Hills through this exciting transformation,' said John Ellett, Board President. 'His proven ability to elevate member experiences, lead complex renovations, and engage meaningfully with both members and staff made him the unanimous choice of our Board.'
According to the release, the golf course improvements will include:
Signature hole redesigns that create more memorable, scenic, and challenging experiences for players of all levels.
Upgraded practice facilities, including expanded short-game areas and advanced TrackMan/TopTracer technology on the driving range.
New irrigation system to enhance water conservation and year-round course conditions.
'This project has the potential to elevate Great Hills into one of the premier courses in Central Texas,' said Williams. 'I believe hole 13 will be one of the best par 4s in the state when completed.'
The original golf course was designed by Don January and Billy Martindale. Construction on the project is due to begin in October, with full completion expected in early 2027.

"Whenever we were in Pasadena, of course, we talked about last season and him winning a national championship. I was super happy for him," Williams said. Williams ended last year with 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns. He also added 48 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Knicks Urged to Strike Blockbuster Trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo
Knicks Urged to Strike Blockbuster Trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks' 2024-25 season came to a close to the Indiana Pacers on Saturday. The Knicks fell in six games in the Eastern Conference final, unable to reach the NBA finals. What can they do to get to the next level? ESPN analyst and former Chicago Bulls' Jay Williams said add Giannis Antetokounmpo. Advertisement On Monday's episode of Get Up, host Mike Greenberg asked Williams if the Knicks should be "moving heaven and earth" to trade for Giannis and put the team "over the top." Williams' answer suggested that adding Giannis would improve the Knicks' lineup by helping the longevity of one of its biggest stars, Jalen Brunson. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo during game five of the first round for the 2024 NBA Playoffs against the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Ruszkowski-Imagn Images "What puts Jalen Brunson in the best position long-term is to be 1A when you need him to be 1A the most at the end of games," Williams said. "Due to the fact he absorbs so much physicality, I don't need him to carry the load over the course of an 82-game regular season schedule and into the playoffs." Advertisement "A guy like Giannis can carry that load," Williams said on Get Up. Williams acknowledged that the Knicks would have to give up a lot of pieces and assets to bring the Greek Freak to the Big Apple, but it's in the best interest of Brunson's long-term success as the two's play would work well together. Following the game six loss that eliminated Brunson and the Knicks, Brunson expressed his confidence in the team's ability to make another run for the NBA finals next season. "The most confidence. Overconfident," Brunson said in the post-game news conference. I wonder how confident he'd be if they added a former MVP.
