It is alleged that Merriweather was the 'catalyst' for what detectives have described as a 'coordinated attack'. New footage has also emerged showing the moments leading up to the attack, with one of the men who police said was a victim using racial slurs. Man (35) charged in connection with fatal incident in Waterford
The man charged in connection with an incident in Waterford on Friday, following which a man died, has been remanded in custody pending DPP instructions. David Norris (35) of 8 Assumption Terrace, Rosbercon, New Ross, Co Wexford, appeared by video link before Judge Miriam Walsh at Waterford District Court on Tuesday, August 5th. Advertisement As The Waterford News & Star reports, Mr Norris is charged with assault causing harm contrary to Section 3 of the Non-Fatal Acts Against the Person Act 1997. Acting for the state, Sergeant John Phelan made an application for the defendant to be remanded in continuing custody to await further instructions from the DPP. Judge Walsh put the matter back to August 19th. On Friday, August 1st, at around 2:20 pm, uniformed gardaí responded to a call at a house in St Catherine's Grange Housing Estate. There, they found a male in his 70s unconscious. A second male in his 30s was arrested at the scene. An Garda Síochána say the investigation is ongoing. Mother accused of murdering her three-year-old daughter
A mother has been charged with the murder of her three-year-old daughter. Pippa McGrath, 47, appeared at Leeds Crown Court by video link on Tuesday, when she spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth. She is charged with the murder of Hope McGrath, whose body was found at a bungalow in Austhorpe Court in the Colton area of Leeds last Wednesday. West Yorkshire Police had visited the property after concerns were raised about the safety of a child. Neighbours suggested Hope had suffered with a disability and needed a wheelchair, The Sun reported. The court heard a toxicology report was likely to be relevant to the case. Judge Guy Kearl KC, the Recorder of Leeds, said a post-mortem examination on Hope was due to take place on Wednesday and that 'at least one of the issues will be the toxicology report'. The court heard psychiatric reports would be prepared to establish McGrath's fitness to plead. A date of Feb 24 was set for the trial, which is expected to take up to two weeks. McGrath was remanded in custody until her next appearance at the same court for a plea and trial preparation hearing on Sep 3. The force released a photograph of Hope on Tuesday Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson, of the force's homicide and major inquiry team, said: 'We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Hope's death. 'A photograph of the three-year-old has been released by her family. I would ask that people respect their privacy at this extremely difficult time.'
