Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa's causes of death determined
March 7 (UPI) -- New Mexico Chief Medical Medical Examiner Heather Jarrell released the cause of death for Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arkawa, on Friday. Variety and USA Today reported the examiner's announcement.
Hackman died of cardiovascular disease, the examiner determined, placing his date of death on February 18, when his pacemaker last recorded an abnormal rhythm. Hackman and Arakawa were found dead on February 26.
Jarrell determined Arakawa could have died as early as February 11 of hantavirus. The Mayo Clinic calls hantavirus a pulminary disease "that begins with flu-like symptoms and progresses rapidly to more severe diseases."
At a press conference, Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza reported that Arakawa was seen running errands on surveillance cameras Feb. 11, and corresponded with her massage therapist.
Hackman also had Alzheimer's disease but tested negative for hantavirus. Both deaths have been ruled natural causes after initially seeming suspicious. Hackman was 95 and Arakawa 65.
Hackman won Oscars for his roles in The French Connection and Unforgiven. Other roles include Superman: The Movie, The Conversation, Crimson Tide, The Quick and the Dead, Hoosiers, Get Shorty, The Royal Tenenbaums and more. He retired from acting in 2004.

On Monday's episode of " Live with Kelly and Mark," Ripa spoke about how she struggled to fit into her gown for the Academy Awards "So right before the Academy Awards, I was having trouble getting my dress zipped up the side. It was a side-zip dress, and I kept getting zipped into the dress," Ripa said. "I don't know if any women have experienced having your side skin sipped into your dress. It is a punishing thing." To help Ripa get red carpet-ready, Consuelos suggested she follow his high-protein diet. "It's the only time I've listened to Mark about my diet because I typically don't like to do what you're doing," Ripa said. "I just find, you're like, way too disciplined. I can't live that way." But she didn't mind giving it a shot if it's just "for 72 hours," Ripa said, adding that some of the foods she ate included steak, yoghurt, and vegetables. "I didn't love it, because I'm not big on animal protein. I don't love it, but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up, no side skin," Ripa said. "And I looked super fit. Super, super fit. So thank you for that." Consuelos added that increasing protein should go hand-in-hand with meeting daily fiber needs. "It's crucial for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome and may lower the rates of chronic disease such as diabetes," Consuelos said. Protein helps build lean muscle mass, boosts immunity, and is good for weight loss. The latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, published by the United States Department of Agriculture, recommend 14 grams of dietary fiber for every 1,000 calories consumed. This amounts to 22 to 28 grams daily for adult women and 28 to 34 grams daily for adult men, depending on their age range. Dietitians previously told Business Insider that salmon, shrimp, and black beans are high-protein foods that can be beneficial to include in a weight-loss diet. Eating a lot of protein isn't usually harmful, but it can mean you're not getting enough of other important nutrients. "Most athletes that I talk to are eating too much protein because they think eating more protein means building more muscle," sports dietitian Nancy Clark told BI. "It's actually the carbs that fuel muscle. All the protein they're eating displaces the carbs that are needed to fuel the muscles."

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' 'Eerie' Favorite TV Show Revealed in Trial
Earlier Tuesday, June 10, Sean "Diddy" Combs suffered another loss in court when a judge denied his legal team's attempt to declare a mistrial. U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian rejected arguments from Combs' defense that focused on testimony from Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan, a close friend of Combs' ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura Fine. It was Combs' team's second attempt to declare a mistrial in the sex crimes case. Later in the trial on Tuesday, Combs' ex-girlfriend "Jane," testifying under a pseudonym, revealed under cross-examination that she "endured" nights in hotels with escorts because she wanted to spend time with Combs revealing nightly duties included bathing him, rubbing his feet, cuddling with him and watching his favorite TV show. "I felt loved by him because we experienced these things together," she said, via USA Today. In her testimony "Jane" revealed his favorite TV show true-crime franchise Dateline, which USA Today claimed as "eerie." The series features main host Lester Holt, who previously told USA Today that the show's stories are "relatable" because "you realize that people that do bad things could be across the street from you, their kids could go to school with yours."
