Kelly Ripa says she ate like her husband for 3 days to help fit into her Oscars dress

It turns out that all Kelly Ripa needed to do to fit into her Oscars dress was eat like Mark Consuelos for three days.
On Monday's episode of " Live with Kelly and Mark," Ripa spoke about how she struggled to fit into her gown for the Academy Awards
"So right before the Academy Awards, I was having trouble getting my dress zipped up the side. It was a side-zip dress, and I kept getting zipped into the dress," Ripa said. "I don't know if any women have experienced having your side skin sipped into your dress. It is a punishing thing."
To help Ripa get red carpet-ready, Consuelos suggested she follow his high-protein diet.
"It's the only time I've listened to Mark about my diet because I typically don't like to do what you're doing," Ripa said. "I just find, you're like, way too disciplined. I can't live that way."
But she didn't mind giving it a shot if it's just "for 72 hours," Ripa said, adding that some of the foods she ate included steak, yoghurt, and vegetables.
"I didn't love it, because I'm not big on animal protein. I don't love it, but I ate exactly how you told me to eat, and that dress zipped right up, no side skin," Ripa said. "And I looked super fit. Super, super fit. So thank you for that."
Consuelos added that increasing protein should go hand-in-hand with meeting daily fiber needs.
"It's crucial for maintaining a healthy gut microbiome and may lower the rates of chronic disease such as diabetes," Consuelos said.
Protein helps build lean muscle mass, boosts immunity, and is good for weight loss.
The latest Dietary Guidelines for Americans, published by the United States Department of Agriculture, recommend 14 grams of dietary fiber for every 1,000 calories consumed. This amounts to 22 to 28 grams daily for adult women and 28 to 34 grams daily for adult men, depending on their age range.
Dietitians previously told Business Insider that salmon, shrimp, and black beans are high-protein foods that can be beneficial to include in a weight-loss diet.
Eating a lot of protein isn't usually harmful, but it can mean you're not getting enough of other important nutrients.
"Most athletes that I talk to are eating too much protein because they think eating more protein means building more muscle," sports dietitian Nancy Clark told BI. "It's actually the carbs that fuel muscle. All the protein they're eating displaces the carbs that are needed to fuel the muscles."

They met in 2018, got engaged in 2022, and later married in 2024. That entire time, his wife Marielle, a 28-year-old school social worker, had a plan to show Andrew how grateful she was for their partnership. "I always knew, from the second we started dating, that I wanted to give him a Rolex," she told Business Insider. "That is the male version of an engagement ring." A match made in college It was Marielle's last semester of college at SUNY Albany in 2018 when her best friend asked: "Are you ready to meet your husband?" She said yes and agreed to meet Andrew, the fraternity brother of her friend's boyfriend, at a bar. "We hit it off and haven't left each other's side since," she said. The couple now lives together in Connecticut. By 2021, Andrew was certain he'd found the girl he wanted to marry. He saved money for a year, storing cash inside an envelope stuffed in his sock drawer, and later visited a family friend who works as a jeweler in New York's Westchester County. "I came up with the very silly lie: I need to get my car serviced up in Westchester," he told BI. "But I forgot to turn my location off until I was actually at the jeweler." Marielle, of course, knew he'd visited. Still, she had no idea that Andrew spent multiple sessions working to make a perfect ring, and that he'd later purchased it and hid the box inside a ski boot in their closet. She was also completely surprised when he finally proposed to her on the beach in September 2022, followed by a party on Fire Island with their closest friends and family. Andrew didn't just get the girl. He also got a designer watch. For nearly a year before their September 2024 nuptials, Marielle had secretly been working on a project: securing Andrew's dream Rolex watch, a $7,750 Air-King. She wanted to show appreciation for her engagement ring, Andrew's proposal, and every other special moment they'd shared thus far. "It was a full-time job trying to get this Rolex," Marielle told BI. Rolexes can be easier to buy than some other luxury watches. Still, the process isn't always quick. Rather than going online and adding one to your virtual shopping cart, shoppers must visit an authorized retailer, where they could end up on a waitlist alongside other interested buyers. You can also turn to unofficial secondhand dealers. It's often a more expensive path, but one that can lead to more rare and coveted timepieces. Marielle tapped her brother for help, connected with a broker in New York City, and put her name on every waitlist she could find — even for watches she wasn't as interested in, just to increase her chances of getting one. "It's all about relationships," she said of the buying process. "I would make sure to visit the broker every time I was in the city, and I'd remember little things about them. I'd text them every so often to ask how they were doing and just check in. It took me almost a year being on waitlists and making that constant effort." When she was finally offered one — the exact model her husband wanted — "on a random Tuesday," she left work early and picked it up two blocks from her then-fiancé's office. Marielle told BI that she knew Andrew would feel terrible if she gave him the luxury timepiece when he didn't have something for her. So she suggested they exchange wedding gifts with a budget of $500 each. He went over budget with a Cartier bracelet, and Marielle did the same with the Rolex. She recently posted a video of the exchange on TikTok, where it's been viewed more than 745,000 times. "I did not have any inkling that she would be getting me a watch, let alone a Rolex," Andrew said, adding that it almost felt like a second proposal — this time from Marielle to him. The couple said they'd love to see this become a more common trend, where both people in a relationship are celebrated for getting engaged. "I'll pass down my diamond ring one day to our kids, and he'll pass down the Rolex," Marielle said. Of course, you don't need a luxury item to woo your partner. "If you have the means to do something — on a similar scale or a smaller one — I think it shows true partnership," Andrew said. "Not only was one person able to save [money], keep a secret, plan, and execute [a proposal] beautifully, but both were able to do it for one another." The co-director of "How to Train Your Dragon" is back with a live-action remake of the original movie. He's not a fan of remakes and acknowledged that they can seem unnecessary, but thinks his is different. He told BI he hopes studios will take "more risks on establishing new original stories." Dean DeBlois, the director of the "How to Train Your Dragon" live-action remake, told Business Insider that he thinks live-action remakes are unnecessary. But he believes his is different, because it creates a new pathway for remakes that keep the franchises' "soul intact," he said. DeBlois said during an online Q&A at the 2020 Annecy International Animation Film Festival that he is not interested in re-dos and thought studios were being "lazy." While DeBlois hasn't changed his mind, he told BI: "I still see a lot of live-action remakes as being unnecessary, and you could argue that this one is unnecessary. "It is being delivered as a love letter to the fans, and it is being made with a lot of care and a lot of heart from everyone on the production." He added: "I would say that maybe if it's done by the original filmmakers, it warrants a little more respect and praise than perhaps the 'let's knock 'em all off' kind of attitude." The new film, out Friday, is DeBlois' first live-action movie after co-directing the original animated "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise, which made $1.6 billion across three films. He also co-directed the "Lilo & Stitch" animated movies, but the recent live-action remake was not directed or written by the original team. Although fans of the original "Lilo & Stitch" movie criticized the new film, it has become the third-highest-grossing movie of the year following its release last month. "How to Train Your Dragon" is Universal's first foray into live-action remakes, after Disney's including "Lilo & Stitch," grossed over $8 billion at the box office. DeBlois said that after Universal Studios contacted him about potentially commissioning a new "How to Train Your Dragon," he instantly wanted to direct it. "I'm not that big of a fan of the trend of remaking animated movies into live action," he said. "I want to be in charge of this one so I can preserve its integrity and pay tribute to the fans as well." But DeBlois ultimately hopes studios still pursue original stories. "I do hope that in the live-action space, with enough financial success, we can start to take a few more risks on establishing new original stories that could pay off to become great franchises for studios," DeBlois said. "But at the moment, I think we all understand it's a bit risk-averse when you talk about big movies that are expensive to make, nobody wants to be sort of left with a flop on their hands," he added.
