A 42-year-old man died when he was electrocuted after climbing a tree to pluck mangoes in Kampung Bambangan here on June 8.
PAPAR - A 42-year-old man died when he was electrocuted after climbing a tree to pluck mangoes in Kampung Bambangan here on June 8.
Papar Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Rozlan Osman said that following an emergency call via MERS999 at 3.01pm, he dispatched a brigade of eight firefighters to the scene within seven minutes.
"The victim is believed to have climbed the tree and used an iron rod to poke at the mangoes, before the rod came into contact with a nearby electric cable, causing the man to be electrocuted and rendered unconscious on the tree.
"The firemen then proceeded to lower the victim using a ladder and rescue rope after the electricity supply was cut off by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB)," he said when contacted. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer before being handed over to police for further action.

He emphasised that tactical and operational measures being implemented include high-scale 24-hour patrols, tactical training, and strategic cooperation through joint operations and continuous information sharing with Esscom and the Fisheries Department. Among the main identified threats are armed intrusions by external elements, smuggling of firearms and drugs, attempted kidnappings by cross-border organised crime groups, and smuggling of controlled goods such as subsidised cooking oil, petrol and diesel. 'The High Readiness Response approach continues to be adapted to ensure that maritime control remains at an optimum level,' he said. Meanwhile, Mohd Khairulanuar said Sabah Maritime recorded a total of 116 arrest cases in Sabah and the Federal Territory of Labuan in the first six months of this year. Sabah Maritime has also conducted six Search and Rescue (Carilamat or SAR) operations from January to June this year. Mohd Khairulanuar also emphasised that Malaysian Maritime remains committed to protecting maritime communities and enforcing national laws without compromise. PAPAR: A 42-year-old man died after being electrocuted while picking mangoes in Kampung Bambangan, here, Sunday. According to Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson, a team of eight personnel led by Fire Station Chief Rozlan Osman rushed to the scene after being notified at 3.01pm. Advertisement Upon arriving the scene, he said the team carried the victim down from the tree in which he was carrying out his mango picking activity. Based on information from the public, he also said that the deceased was using a metal pole to pick mangoes from the tree but accidentally which accidentally touched a nearby electric cable which led to the electrocution. 'The team brought the victim down with ladder and rope after the electricity was turned off by Sabah Electricity. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Department officers, and the body was handed over to the police for further action,' he added.
