Mukesh Ambani's masterstroke, JioHotstar crosses 280000000 subscribers in…, surpasses Jeff Bezos's Amazon Prime, soon to outshine Netflix's…

JioStar has achieved a major milestone by reaching 280 million subscribers. It was launched in February this year and is now close to OTT platform Netflix, which has 300 million subscribers.
During a discussion on financial results in April, JioStar CEO Kevin Vaz stated, 'In just three and a half months, the number of our paying subscribers has reached 280 million. We are very close to Netflix in this regard, although their figures include subscribers from all over the world.'
JioStar has already surpassed Amazon Prime Video which is at third position, with over 200 million subscribers. Media Partners Asia Insights claimed in a LinkedIn post that JioHotstar could surpass 300 million subscribers before the final match of the IPL in May. The IPL final is now scheduled for June 3.
JioHotstar already shows ads, and Prime Video also announced that it would begin showing ads on its platform from June 17. It launched with around 50 million subscribers but later surged past 200 million by April. The IPL played a big role in the platform's rapid growth in number of subscribers.
JioHotstar was launched about 6 months ago. This platform came into existence after the merger of Disney+ Hotstar and JioCinema. This platform currently has the rights of both digital and TV of IPL. The media report says that the company has benefited after adopting the paid model for IPL matches.
This growth is not only due to exclusive content from Warner Bros., Discovery, HBO, NBCUniversal's Peacock, Disney, and Paramount but also because of its streaming rights to cricket tournaments like the ICC Champions Trophy, Women's Premier League (WPL), and IPL.

Visibly upbeat after that honour, he is now eager to keep up the good run during the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), which kick-starts on Thursday. Ajith Ram, who'll be representing Salem Spartans, has been looking to sharpen his skills in white-ball cricket. "Preparations for TNPL are actually going well. So, I am not thinking too much about what to do, what not to do. So, just trying to react to how things are going. Especially in T20 cricket, we have to react well. So, I am backing my skills to react well at the correct time. And depending on the team situation, try to execute the plan," he told this The New Indian Express. "I want to improve and do well in white-ball cricket. I haven't played for Tamil Nadu yet in white-ball and there is a lot of competition. So, this (TNPL) is a good challenge for me to do and see where I stand. If I can compete with others, that is enough for me. But if that gives me that opportunity to play for white-ball, I will be very happy." He has also been working on his batting with aspirations to make an impact down the order. "I'm also working on my batting. I am trying to take my game deep, because power-hitting is something that I have done for a long time now. So, I am just trying to, you know, contribute whatever I can," he added. His long-term ambition is to be part of the Indian Premier League. Ajit Ram felt TNPL is a good platform to highlight his talent. "I think I see it (TNPL) as a great platform for me to show my talent. And hopefully get an IPL contract. Because many players perform well in TNPL teams and are going ahead from here. So, I would also like to try this out and give my best to impress someone. Somewhere the talent scouts of the various IPL teams watch the TNPL matches. Hopefully, if I do well in front of them, I will have a chance to get picked," said Ajith Ram.

Naturally, the euphoria would spill out of the stadium in Ahmedabad. As soon as the Rajat Patidar-led side had beaten Punjab Kings in the final, people in Bengaluru had started one gi­ant party. They were entitled to do so. That's the moment fans wait for in near-religious penance — the day when the tears of a 100 lonely nights are washed away by the magic of one trophy-laden celebration. On Wednesday afternoon, though, scenes of utter joy gave way to an utterly avoidable tragedy as at least 11 fans died while wanting to catch a glimpse of their team and their favourite stars with the trophy. Imagine that for a sec­ond. People leaving their homes hoping to get their own pictures of Virat Kohli. At least 11 of them will go back in coffins. Those tragic scenes at the Chinnaswamy Stadium would haunt the franchise forever. This points towards lack of basic planning. Victory parades and fandom are an in­tegral part of club culture abroad. The European football landscape is replete with such events. Of course, not always without incident, but such stampede-like situations would be hard to imagine. Italy's Napoli had a season to remem­ber: the celebrations were wild but without incident.
