Did Prasidh Krishna and Shubman Gill consider running-out Chris Woakes at non-striker end, Here is what fans believe New Delhi: Indian cricket team's fast bowler Prasidh Krishna raised an interesting question on the fifth day of the fifth Test match against England. He asked the on-field umpire about the rules of run-out at the non-striker's end. This incident happened when England had only one wicket left to win, and Chris Woakes, who was suffering from a shoulder injury, came out to bat but did not face a single ball. Woakes only stood at the non-striker's end In the second innings, Woakes did not face the ball and only remained at the non-striker end. On the other hand, Gus Atkinson was trying to take runs on the last ball of every over. A discussion broke out on social media that Prasidh Krishna asked the umpire about the rules of non-striker run-out with two balls remaining in the 84th over. This led to speculation that he was planning to get Woakes out in this manner. Revealed in Cricbuzz commentary Cricbuzz's live match commentary also stated, 'Prasidh sought information from the umpire about the rules of run-out at the non-striker end.' This statement went viral on social media and became a topic of discussion among fans. India Issues Stern Reply To Trumps Tariff Hike Threat, Says Targeted By US
New Delhi: The Indian government has issued a strongly worded response following US President Donald Trump's recent threat to impose additional tariffs on Indian goods. The statement, released on Monday by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), asserts that India is being unfairly singled out by both the United States and the European Union for its continued imports of Russian oil. In the official statement, the MEA said, "India has been targeted by the United States and the European Union for importing oil from Russia after the commencement of the Ukraine conflict. In fact, India began importing from Russia because traditional supplies were diverted to Europe after the outbreak of the conflict. The United States at that time actively encouraged such imports by India for strengthening global energy markets stability." India emphasized that its energy imports are essential to ensuring domestic affordability and energy security amid global market disruptions. "India's imports are meant to ensure predictable and affordable energy costs to the Indian consumer. They are a necessity compelled by global market situation. However, it is revealing that the very nations criticizing India are themselves indulging in trade with Russia. Unlike our case, such trade is not even a vital national compulsion." Statement by Official Spokesperson — Randhir Jaiswal (@MEAIndia) August 4, 2025 Backing its claims with data, the MEA pointed out the scale of ongoing EU-Russia and US-Russia trade, calling the criticism of India "unjustified." "The European Union in 2024 had a bilateral trade of Euro 67.5 billion in goods with Russia. In addition, it had trade in services estimated at Euro 17.2 billion in 2023. This is significantly more than India's total trade with Russia that year or subsequently. European imports of LNG in 2024, in fact, reached a record 16.5mn tonnes, surpassing the last record of 15.21mn tonnes in 2022." "Europe-Russia trade includes not just energy, but also fertilizers, mining products, chemicals, iron and steel and machinery and transport equipment. Where the United States is concerned, it continues to import from Russia uranium hexafluoride for its nuclear industry, palladium for its EV industry, fertilizers as well as chemicals. In this background, the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable. Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security." Earlier in the day, US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social, sharply criticizing India's trade with Russia amid the ongoing Ukraine war. "India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian Oil, they are then, for much of the Oil purchased, selling it on the Open Market for big profits. They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian War Machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the Tariff paid by India to the USA," Trump wrote. Trump announced the imposition of a 25% tariff on Indian goods starting August 1, 2025, citing India's trade policies and its alignment with the BRICS bloc. According to Trump, India's tariffs on US products are among 'the highest in the world.' He labeled India's actions as part of a broader anti-American agenda.

India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav bats for first time after surgery, on track to feature in Asia Cup
New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav had his first batting session at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru late last week in July after undergoing a successful hernia surgery earlier this year, according to ESPNcricinfo. In June, Suryakumar shared an update on Instagram about his successful sports hernia surgery in Munich, Germany. According to ESPNcricinfo, the dynamic batter is currently under the supervision of the BCCI's medical staff as he recovers from the surgery. Suryakumar's workload is expected to be significantly increased over the next few weeks, and it is believed that he is on track for the next month's Asia Cup, which is scheduled to kick off on September 9. According to ESPNcricinfo, the Indian team is expected to travel to the UAE in the first week of September. The tournament will mark the beginning of India's preparations for defending their crown in the T20 World Cup next year. India will host the tournament with Sri Lanka. Suryakumar was handed the reins of India's T20I team after their triumphant World Cup campaign in June 2024, after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the format. The 34-year-old was last seen in action during the Mumbai T20 League in June, during which he represented Triumph Knights Mumbai North East. He pulled the curtain down on his run in the tournament with 122 runs in four innings. Suryakumar put his prolific form on exhibition during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In his record-shattering run, the dynamic batter played a key role in guiding the Mumbai Indians (MI) to the playoffs. He enjoyed a record-breaking season, registering 16 consecutive scores of 25 or more, a world record. Suryakumar finished the tournament with 717 runs, the highest ever by a Mumbai Indians batter in a single season and the most by any non-opener in IPL history. Under Surya's leadership, India's T20 batting has scaled new heights, emphasising attacking intent and batting depth. The team has consistently posted mammoth totals, including a staggering 297 against Bangladesh in October 2024, the second-highest total in T20 history. (ANI)
