Bears' Ben Johnson taking inspiration from Bill Belichick's Patriots
The Chicago Bears, at this point, could only dream of having the success that the New England Patriots had from 2000-20. Nine trips to the Super Bowl, including six championships, the greatest quarterback and coach of all time, and countless other elite players made it a special run of dominance. New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson was able to witness some of that during his time with the Miami Dolphins, a division rival of the Patriots. From 2012-19, Johnson was an assistant coach in Miami, specializing in different positions each season. He was there for over a dozen matchups against the Patriots, which gave him some insight. 'Every game is its own entity. That's what I learned. I saw it for a number of years when I was in Miami," Johnson said last week. "The New England Patriots were at the top of the league for so long, and each week, you just didn't know. Offense and defense, they just continued to morph, and they had their opponents guessing. You didn't know what Belichick was gonna pull out front-wise or coverage-wise on defense. You didn't know what McDaniels was gonna do on offense. That's something I would like to do here as well. The elements play a role. Our talent plays a role. Who we're going against plays a role. It all plays a piece in the puzzle, and that's what's fun about each game week." Bill Belichick is a defensive-minded coach, but the mindset is the same. Continue to grow and learn with each passing week. Never give up on being harder to play against with each passing day. Even with Josh McDaniels running the offense in New England under Belichick's head coaching, they never failed to make changes as the league adapted to them. Having Tom Brady made everything a little bit easier for the Patriots, but New England never married one type of play style. Johnson is a proponent of the same philosophy, according to his own comments from practice. Sometimes, they'll run the ball more. Sometimes, quarterback Caleb Williams will be relied on to make plays. To put it like the head coach, each week is its own entity. Follow Bears Wire on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

MLB Writer Floats Joe Ryan Trade Package That Should Leave Cubs Fans 'Giddy'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Chicago Cubs know they have to add at least one starting pitcher ahead of Thursday's deadline. Chicago has had issues with the rotation staying healthy this year, and adding another arm could propel the Cubs to a division crown. Unfortunately for the Cubs, the starting pitching market is thin. It's why FanSided's Quinn Everts believes the organization will have to cough up a strong package to land Joe Ryan from the Minnesota Twins. "Cubs fans are giddy at the thought of Ryan pitching in Wrigley, and that fantasy could become reality ... if they're willing to pony up some promising prospects," wrote Everts. TAMPA, FLORIDA - MAY 27: Joe Ryan #41 of the Minnesota Twins pitches in the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on May 27, 2025 in Tampa, Florida. TAMPA, FLORIDA - MAY 27: Joe Ryan #41 of the Minnesota Twins pitches in the third inning against the Tampa Bay Rays at George M. Steinbrenner Field on May 27, 2025 in Tampa, is the full trade: "Wiggins and Alcántara are both near-MLB ready and could feasibly make the 2026 opening day roster in Minnesota, giving the fans something to look forward to," added Everts. "McCullough, although he's ranked lower (No. 24) in Chicago's farm system, is a near-sure bet to be at least a playable reliever in the big leagues. This package accomplishes goals for both sides; Chicago gets the starting arm that could make it World Series favorites, while Minnesota gets three prospects that they can feel comfortable will contribute soon." This is a hefty package to cough up for a starting pitcher as the Cubs would be sending back two of their top 10 prospects. However, Ryan has 2 1/2 years of team control remaining. Chicago is responsible for paying him the remainder of his $3 million this season as well. It's a move that will be tough to swallow for the Cubs but one they should make to prepare for a deep playoff run. More MLB: Yankees 'Facing Pressure' as One of Deadline's Most Desperate Teams

Sean Payton: Dre Greenlaw plays like Mike Tyson
Linebacker Dre Greenlaw made the most of the first day in pads at Broncos training camp. Greenlaw filled gaps and delivered hits throughout team drills in Denver and head coach Sean Payton said you didn't even have to be watching to know that Greenlaw was the one landing blows. Payton said "you can hear it" when Greenlaw makes a hit and then went on to compare his style to another knockout artist from a different sport. "He plays like Mike Tyson," Payton said, via the team's website. "He's tough, he's physical. He's built that way. There's not a lot of leaky yardage. Some guys [allow that]. He's a knock-back tackler. They stop where he hits them. There's an intensity to how he plays. He's one of those players that if you put the film on and didn't say anything, at some point early, you'd ask, 'Who is this guy?'" Greenlaw was limited to two games for the 49ers last year because of injuries and a quad injury interrupted his first offseason in Denver, so one key for the Broncos will be making sure Greenlaw's healthy enough to deploy that physicality on a regular basis. If he is, facing an already tough Broncos defense will be even less enjoyable for opposing offenses in 2025.
