Mac Allister tells Liverpool to sign Tottenham star he rates above Van Dijk

Liverpool are embarking on what is shaping up to be a busy summer transfer window and star midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has now sent a transfer wish to Reds manager Arne Slot Alexis Mac Allister has urged Liverpool to sign Tottenham's Cristian Romero. Mac Allister is currently away on international duty with Argentina, with Romero one of his team-mates with La Albiceleste. Together, the duo have helped their country win two successive Copa Americas and the 2022 World Cup. Mac Allister has also starred in Liverpool's Premier League title win, while Romero helped Tottenham to lift the Europa League. ‌ That ended a 17-year trophy drought for Spurs, who are set to undergo major changes this summer. The man who led them to winning the Europa League, Ange Postecoglou, has been sacked. ‌ Brentford boss Thomas Frank is expected to replace the Australian. Meanwhile, Liverpool are also embarking on a busy summer window, with Arne Slot keen to ensure his side retain their place at the top of English football. They have already been active in the transfer market, with Jeremie Frimpong having arrived while Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez are expected to join him. And Mac Allister has now urged a fourth move, singling out Romero. In an eyebrow-raising endorsement, Mac Allister also revealed that he rates the 27-year-old as being the best defender in the world. Such a rating would place him higher than Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk. Mac Allister said after Argentina's draw with Colombia on Tuesday night: 'Oh, Cuti [Romero]. He's a player I love. The way he speaks and plays. "Sometimes you feel like he's too much because he makes everything so easy. He gives me confidence. For me, he's been the best centre-back in the world for several years.' ‌ Aside from winning the Europa League, it was a miserable season for Spurs, who finished 17th in the Premier League table. That led to suggestions that Romero could move on in the summer window. But after lifting the Europa League trophy, booking their place in next season's Champions League, Romero appeared to hint that he is happy with life in the capital city. In a post on social media, he wrote: 'We achieved what we wanted this season as a group, and that's what matters. And….My name is part of the history of this beautiful club. ‌ 'I want to thank you all for the love and support every day despite everything, but I have no doubt that staying together led us to success. We must continue, this is the path. "We are the champions of Europe. As a family from start to finish, we deserved this title. No one trusted us and here we are, closing a great season. Thank you all for the love."

Emi Martinez's wife issues update on Villa star amid Man Utd transfer links

Emi Martinez appeared to be saying goodbye to Aston Villa fans at the end of their last match of the season amid summer transfer links, but his wife has a different version of the story Emi Martinez's wife has denied that her husband has said farewell to Aston Villa. A visibly emotional Martinez was seen waving to supporters following Villa's final home game of the 2024/25 campaign against Tottenham on May 16, prompting speculation he could leave this summer. The Argentina international has a contract at Villa until 2029, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League could prompt him to go elsewhere. There have been reports about Villa's concerns with complying with the Premier League 's profit and sustainability rules, suggesting the club might need to cash in on their top players. ‌ Martinez has been linked with a move to Manchester United, who first made contact in January amid worries over Andre Onana. Villa were then said to be keeping an eye on Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia as a potential replacement for Martinez. ‌ But his wife Mandinha has dismissed the speculation, telling BBC WM: "He wasn't in tears. No. Anybody who knows Emi knows he is an emotional character and that's who he is. It just shows you how much he loves the Villa fans. I love the Villa fans. We love Villa." Her words may reassure Villa supporters somewhat, but Martinez himself has been a lot less committed in public. SSpeaking to reporters after reporting for international duty recently, he said: "My future? I don't know, I come here to play for the national team, and that's the only thing that matters to me right now. "Do I want to move to a new club? The transfer window just opened, so there's still a long way to go." Meanwhile, Villa boss Unai Emery has also hinted that Martinez will be on his way this summer. Speaking before the final game of the season against United on May 25 – in which Martinez was sent off – he said: "We will see. Of course, it is the last match here [this season], and I don't know. 'We will see about the team, the players, but of course, they are responding on the field. Of course, then we will see about everything, how we are going to try to get better for the next season." ‌ HAVE YOUR SAY! Would you like to see Emi Martinez at your club this summer? Comment below. Martinez also has strong links with Arsenal, having spent much of his career on the books in north London. He has previously suggested he still loves Arsenal and praised Mikel Arteta. "I think it was 10-11 years I was here," Martinez told Sky Sports. ‌ "I've still got friends here. I came here as a lad and left a man. I'll always love this club. "They are still second, they've come far and have one of the best managers in the world. I've worked with Mikel [Arteta]. I know how good he is." Former Man United youngster set for Mason Greenwood reunion at Marseille after undergoing medical - five years after forward dedicated a goal celebration in his honour

Former Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes is poised to reunited with former team-mate Mason Greenwood as he prepares to join Marseille. Gomes has reportedly arrived in the French city with the England midfielder expected to undergo a medical on Wednesday. Last month, Gomes confirmed his departure from Lille this summer at the end of his contract, ending his five-year stay with the club. The 24-year-old, who has been capped four times by the Three Lions, left United in 2020 after failing to break into their first team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Multiple Premier League clubs - including West Ham and Tottenham were understood to have been keen on bringing him back to England. Gomes will again team up with Greenwood, with the duo having come through Man United 's academy together. Gomes had made just six appearances for Man United's senior team having come through the academy, with six coming alongside Greenwood. Greenwood celebrated a goal in tribute of Gomes back in 2020, after the midfielder left Man United on a free transfer. The forward had formed an 'A' with his hands after scoring in a 3-0 win against Brighton. Gomes had responded to the tribute on social media by writing 'No words! I love you bro. 'Special, special player, thanks for the dedicated goal.' The move will see Gomes play in the Champions League next season with Marseille, after Roberto De Zerbi's side finished as Ligue 1 runners-up. Greenwood had played a key role in Marseille's qualification as he ended as the joint top goalscorer in the French top flight. The forward and his family moved to Marseille last summer after he completed a £30million move from Man United. Greenwood joined the club following a season long loan spell at Spanish side Getafe last season. It was decided he would leave Man United after he was arrested in January 2022 before being charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour. Charges against Greenwood were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service following the 'withdrawal of key witnesses and new material coming to light'.
