Dark myth tied to horned ‘Frankenstein rabbits' spark fear across US state as public told to stay away
Sightings of rabbits with tentacles or horns coming from their heads and near their mouths in northern Colorado in the United States have caused widespread concern among local residents. Images of rabbits with this bizarre affliction have made waves across social media, with many likening their strange visage to that of Frankenstein's monster or an undead zombie. Rabbits with horn-like growths have taken the internet by storm in recent weeks, as some have compared them to a mythical creature known in popular Western folklore. Some have described the animals as "Frankenstein-", "zombie-" and "demon-rabbits". The rabbits are suffering from a relatively harmless disease called Shope Papilloma Virus , according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. The disease is mainly found in America's Midwest, according to the University of Missouri, and is more noticeable in the summer, when the fleas and ticks that spread the virus are most active. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Join new Free to Play WWII MMO War Thunder War Thunder Play Now Undo ALSO READ: $1,390 stimulus check in your bank account soon? IRS' crucial update for millions of Americans Jackalope mythical creature tied to Zombie rabbits? The virus likely influenced the centuries-old jackalope myth in North America, which told of a rabbit with antlers or horns, among other animal variations. The disease in rabbits also contributed to scientists' knowledge about the connection between viruses and cancer, such as the human papillomavirus that causes cervical cancer. The virus in rabbits was named after Dr. Richard E Shope, a professor at The Rockefeller University who discovered the disease in cottontails in the 1930s. Live Events According to a report in The US Sun, many have pointed out that the sick animals look a lot like jackalopes. The combination was started by taxidermists in Douglas, Wyoming, during the 1930s. Douglas Herrick, alongside his brother, Ralph, came back from hunting one day and threw a jackrabbit body on the ground next to deer horns. The brothers put the two things together and there, a jackalope was born. According to the Douglas, Wyoming, tourism website, these mythical animals are also said to have a peculiar taste for whiskey. Douglas, the town where the jackalope legend was born, has fully embraced the creature, turning it into a symbol of local culture. Statues of jackalopes can be found throughout the town, a towering 13-foot cutout greets visitors on a nearby hillside, and the animal proudly appears on the city's official logo. The illness causes wart-like tumors on the little animals, and is spread by biting insects. According to Van Hoose, the infected animals are most common in the summer months when insects (such as fleas and ticks) are more prevalent. Kara Van Hoose, a spokesperson for Colorado Parks and Wildlife, told The Associated Press that the agency has recently received an influx of calls about the infected rabbits. While people should stay away from the wild rabbits, the virus can only be transferred from rabbit to rabbit, not rabbit to human or other pets. Despite that, Van Hoose has warned people not to touch or go near the rabbits, or any other wild animal. 'That's what we tell everyone with wildlife,' she explained to Time. 'It's just practicing those really smart wildlife principles of keeping your distance, not feeding them, and not trying to step in and help, because there's nothing we can really do.'

Scientists say young blood and bone marrow cells can reverse aging in human skin cells
Researchers found that serum from younger blood can be combined with bone marrow cells and injected into older skin cells, producing rejuvenating effects. This process is called heterochronic parabiosis, which is transferring blood from a younger animal to an older one. Earlier tests on rodents showed reduced signs of aging. So far, all tests have been done in lab dishes, and scientists say they need to do more research to understand how it really works. The anti-aging market makes a lot of money by selling creams, serums, light treatments, and vampire facials that promise younger-looking skin—but most of them don't really work, as reported by Popular Mechanics. Vampire facials and bone marrow Vampire facials drain blood from a person and claim to act as anti-aging treatment, but most likely do nothing. Beiersdorf researchers claim that combining young blood serum with bone marrow cells caused visible rejuvenation in skin cultures in the lab. They observed that serum alone had no effect on older skin cells—proving that bone marrow cells are necessary. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Sulaymaniyah: Unsold Furniture Liquidation 2024 (Prices May Surprise You) Unsold Furniture | Search Ads Learn More Undo This method does not require harming humans, unlike the macabre legend of Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who supposedly bathed in virgins' blood to stay young. Experiments on older mice and rats using injections of young blood and bone marrow cells from younger animals had positive results, showing improved aging signs, as per the report by Popular Mechanics. ASLO READ: HBO's Harry Potter series reveals new Weasley children, full cast from Hogwarts trio to professors – here's everything you need to know Live Events Researchers explained: 'With longer life expectancy, it is important to study aging, promote healthy aging, and extend disease-free lifespan. Skin is the largest organ and shows early aging, reflecting overall health'. To test on humans, Beiersdorf injected human skin cell cultures with: Serum with bone marrow cells and Serum without bone marrow cells. Stem cells and skin rejuvenation Bone marrow cells are important because they have stem cells that can become other cells and make more of themselves. These stem cells also make proteins that help the body grow, fix tissues, and go to the skin to keep it healthy and repair it. Aging skin loses some stem cell function, but exposure to young serum and bone marrow cells reduces skin's biological age, increases cell production, and improves appearance of skin. Researchers found that bone marrow cells secreted 55 proteins related to aging, and 7 of these proteins had rejuvenating effects, improving visible signs of skin aging, as stated by Popular Mechanics. Upcoming studies aim to find whether young serum and bone marrow cells can rejuvenate other organs and to measure how long effects last. Researchers said, 'Future studies are needed to validate these proteins for systemic skin rejuvenation and aging, and to explore the effects of longer culture times'. In conclusion, science may finally explain why blood baths, like Countess Bathory's, didn't work: real rejuvenation requires young blood combined with bone marrow cells, as per reports. FAQs Q1. Can young blood and bone marrow cells make old skin look younger? Yes, lab tests show that combining young blood serum with bone marrow cells can help skin look younger and healthier. Q2. Do vampire facials work like young blood treatments? No, vampire facials mostly do not work—real rejuvenation needs bone marrow cells combined with young blood.

Rules for inspections in hospitals and clinics will be framed in three months, govt tells Kerala HC
Kochi: The state govt on Wednesday informed high court that the rules for conducting inspections in hospitals and other clinical establishments would be framed within three months. The court was also told that the grievance redressal committee for addressing complaints relating to clinical establishments has been reconstituted, with former additional law secretary N Jeevan as chairman and former police surgeon Dr P B Gujaral and Neurologist and Kerala State Medical Council legal cell chairman Dr V G Pradeep Kumar, as members. The state made these submissions in response to an earlier HC directive in a PIL filed by G Samuel of Mavelikkara, Alappuzha, and two others, seeking effective administration of all govt medical colleges, hospitals and health centres across the state. However, the bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji directed the govt to file an affidavit by Tuesday detailing the steps taken for the effective implementation of the Clinical Establishments Act, 2018. The PIL was prompted by the death of a woman following the collapse of an old building on July 3 at the Govt Medical College Hospital, Kottayam, and by a recent disclosure by Dr Haris Chirakkal of the Govt Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, regarding a severe shortage of surgical equipment at the hospital. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like TV providers are furious: this gadget gives you access to all channels Techno Mag Learn More Undo At a hearing on Aug 8, HC had expressed serious concern over the delay in framing rules for inspections in clinical establishments, including govt hospitals, under the Clinical Establishments Act, 2018, and directed the state govt to clarify how soon the process would be initiated.
