Shraddha Kapoor To Lead Chhaava Director Laxman Uttekar's Next Based On A Marathi Novel: Report

Shraddha Kapoor in talks with Dinesh Vijan and Laxman Uttekar for a new Marathi-rooted film post Stree 2 success.
Shraddha Kapoor's recent spotting outside Maddock Films' office in Mumbai stirred quite the buzz, leading to fan speculation about a possible new project with the production house. And now, reports are rife that the actress was at the office for a creative meeting with producer Dinesh Vijan, and the conversation points to an exciting reunion.
As per a report in Pinkvilla, an industry source has revealed to the publication, 'Shraddha Kapoor met Dinesh Vijan, and the duo were joined by Chhaava director, Laxman Uttekar too."
As per the insider, the meeting wasn't just casual—it involved a story narration that left Shraddha impressed. 'Laxman and Shraddha discussed a script, which the latter has loved and principally agreed on. If everything goes well, Shraddha Kapoor will spearhead Laxman Uttekar's next directorial after Chhaava."
The upcoming project is believed to be based on a popular Marathi novel and will showcase Shraddha in a culturally rooted role. 'All other details are kept under wraps for now. There is a possibility of an A-List male lead also to come onboard the film," the source further added.
Though talks are still in their early stages, the chances of this collaboration moving ahead are quite strong, according to the source. 'Dinesh Vijan is presently on a dream run, and is looking to create content that breaks away from the trends. Dinoo, along with Laxman Uttekar have pitched a subject to Shraddha, that they truly believe in and is deep rooted in the Maharashtrian culture," the insider went on to further add.

Meanwhile, Maddock Films is also lining up other major projects. Apart from this untitled feature, Laxman Uttekar and Dinesh Vijan are developing a multi-starrer film with three major male leads, which they plan to begin production on between 2026 and 2027.
Producer Dinesh Vijan continues to ride high on success, having delivered two Rs 500 crore-plus hits. He also has ambitious plans to grow his horror-comedy franchise, with Thama — starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles — set to arrive in cinemas during Diwali 2025.

Shraddha Kapoor was last seen in Stree 2. The horror-comedy, released in 2024, starred her alongside Rajkummar Rao, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana and Pankaj Tripathi. The Amar Kaushik's directorial took the box office by storm and emerged as the highest-grossing Hindi film of the year.

Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 2: It's just day 2 and Akshay Kumar's Housefull 5 is already close to the ₹ 50 crore mark. While it might not be a great deal when compared to high-grossing Hindi films, such as Chhaava, Pushpa 2 and Stree 2, it marked the fourth-biggest opening in Akshay's career after Mission Mangal ( ₹ 29.16 crore), Sooryavanshi ( ₹ 26.29 crore) and Gold ( ₹ 25.25 crore). According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Housefull 5 has minted ₹ 17.24 crore on day 2. It is a 28.17% dip in earnings from Friday to Saturday. On day 1, the film earned ₹ 24 crore. This takes the total earnings to ₹ 41.24 crore. However, these are live data from the website, based on morning, afternoon and evening shows. The final figures will be out after the night shows. Housefull 5 had an overall 33.18% occupancy on Saturday. Delhi NCR had the highest number of shows for the film, followed by cities like Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Pune respectively. In terms of occupancy, regions like Delhi NCR, Mumbai and Jaipur are leading. On day 1, Housefull 5's India Net Collection was ₹ 24 crore while its Worldwide Collection was ₹ 39.75 crore. On the same day, its Overseas Collection was ₹ 11 crore. On the other, its India Gross Collection was ₹ 28.75 crore. Housefull 5 is clashing with the Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's latest release, Thug Life, which was released a day ahead of Housefull 6. It is also clashing with Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi's film Bhool Chuk Maaf. Housefull 5 is directed by Tarun Mansukhani. It was released in two different versions – Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B, featuring different climaxes.
