Lorry driver in fatal crash tests positive for heroin
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said today that the 39-year-old man was detained at the scene following the accident, has since been arrested and is being held for 24 hours.
This was following a urine test, which came back positive for narcotics.
"He will be brought to court tomorrow for a remand application," Tan added.
The crash occurred at Km34.1 of the expressway at 11pm last night.
A 42-year-old woman and her 15-year-old daughter, who were in the rear passenger seats in a Toyota Estima, died at the scene from severe head injuries.
Three others in the Estima — her husband, 42, who was driving and their two sons, both aged 18 — sustained injuries.
Initial investigations showed the lorry, laden with metal, was heading south when the driver lost control, ramming into a Toyota Hilux travelling in the same direction.
The lorry then hit the road divider, veered into the opposite lane and crashed into the Estima and a Mazda.

Engineer loses RM196,610 to 'high returns in an hour' scam
KULAI: An engineer, 55, lost RM196,610 after falling victim to a fraudulent investment scheme that promised up to 20 per cent returns in just an hour. District police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the victim lodged a report yesterday after realising he had been conned after downloading an application. "The victim made nine transfers totalling RM196,610 into four bank accounts between Aug 1 and 12, after he was promised almost immediate profits. "He saw RM307,626 in profits reflected in the investment app he downloaded, after making the online transfers. "However, when he attempted to withdraw the money, the account was blocked," Tan said in a statement today. The case is investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, which carries a jail term of one to 10 years, whipping and a fine, upon conviction. Tan urged the public not to fall for schemes offering unrealistic returns and to use online resources, such as the Commercial Crime Investigation Department's Semak Mule portal, to check suspicous telephone and bank account numbers. The public can contact the National Scam Response Centre at 997 or the CCID for advice or to report suspected scams.

Three held, drugs worth RM4.16mil seized
MELAKA: Police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate using a luxury condominium as a storage facility, seizing various types of drugs, including ganja weighing about 94.84 kilogrammes (kg), with an estimated street value of RM4.16 million, in a series of raids across the Klang Valley and Melaka on Aug 13. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operations, conducted from 4.15 pm to 6.10 pm, also resulted in the arrest of three men, including a Pakistani national, aged 25 to 46. "In the first raid at a condominium compound in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, police arrested a local man and a Pakistani national. Upon searching the suspects and their vehicle, authorities found 26.73kg of ganja. "Subsequent searches of a unit of the same condominium uncovered a drug storage facility containing various types of drugs, including ganja buds, ketamine, and syabu," he said at a press conference at the Melaka contingent police headquarters (IPK) today. During a second raid, Hussein said the third suspect, a local man, was arrested in Ayer Molek, Melaka. A search of his car discovered heroin base drugs weighing approximately 18.25kg, along with various other drugs. "Overall, the seized drugs included ganja (94.84kg), ganja buds (2.58kg), ketamine (42.23kg), syabu (143g), Eramin 5 pills (810g), and heroin base (18.25kg). "In addition to the drugs, police seized a Toyota Estima valued at approximately RM70,000 and two other vehicles - a Perodua Myvi and another Toyota Estima - bringing the total value of seized drugs and assets to RM4.233 million," he said. Hussein added that intelligence indicated the syndicate had been active since last April, and the total amount of drugs seized could supply up to 2.815 million addicts. Meanwhile, he said one of the three suspects tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), while two of them had previous records related to crime and drugs. "All suspects have been remanded for seven days from Aug 14 until tomorrow for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane," he added.
