Man Utd's new £65m-rated striker transfer target revealed after Viktor Gyokeres ‘REJECTS Old Trafford transfer'

The Sun13 hours ago

MANCHESTER UNITED have a new striker target after being rejected by Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sporting star was United's No1 priority this summer but the deal is dead following talks this week.
2
Gyokeres was not happy with the Red Devils' offer and now wants to move to Arsenal instead.
United are still in need of a striker and will now turn their attention to Victor Osimhen.
The in-demand striker scored 32 goals in 37 games on loan at Galatasaray last season, and the Turkish side are keen to make his stay permanent.
So far, though, no deal has been agreed, with Osimhen seemingly ready to consider all his options - including a potential move to the Premier League.
Saudi Arabian clubs are interested and would be able to afford his £500,000-a-week wage demands.
That could prove a stumbling bloke for United however, and player sales would have to happen to get a deal for Osimhen over the line.
It is understood the Nigerian could be available for £65million.
And he was said to be open to a move to Old Trafford.
United are also in danger of missing out on another top target - Bryan Mbeumo.
The winger was said to have decided on moving to United but that was before Tottenham appointed Thomas Frank.
Spurs have held initial talks with Brentford and could hijack United's £60m move for the Cameroonian.

Taxman begins fraud investigation into HS2

A fraud investigation into HS2 has been started by the taxman over allegations of 'large-scale' financial impropriety. The company responsible for building the high-speed rail line has referred itself to HM Revenue & Customs after completing an internal review into a whistleblower's claim that a subcontractor may have been committing tax fraud. Last month it was revealed that HS2 Ltd was investigating whether a subcontractor working on the project had falsely declared self-employed workers as directly employed staff and charged inflated rates. It was alleged that 'fake payslips' had been submitted to mislead auditors. A firm has been suspended. The investigation is said to focus on two companies that provided employees to Balfour Beatty Vinci, one of HS2's main contractors and a joint venture whose history can be traced back to the construction of the Channel Tunnel more than 30 years ago. A spokesman for the joint venture declined to comment. HS2 has been rocked by long delays, mammoth cost overruns and allegations of chronic mismanagement. This week, the transport secretary, Heidi Alexander, will present the initial findings of an internal review by Mark Wild, who was parachuted in last December as chief executive of HS2 Ltd to try to get the project back on track. The Labour government is overseeing a major 'reset' of the high-speed rail line after its northern leg was scrapped in 2023 by the Conservatives. It is understood that Wild has told Alexander that plans to open the HS2 phase one leg from London to Birmingham by 2033 will not be achieved without a shake-up of the phasing of construction. Wild has not put a date on when he thinks it is feasible to open the line, preferring instead to offer the government a series of options once he has completed a more detailed review. Wild has also not confirmed an updated cost estimate to the transport secretary, sources insisted, despite reports that the bill for finishing the work between Birmingham and Old Oak Common on the outskirts of London had ballooned to £100 billion. Construction at Old Oak Common station BEN WHITLEY A spokesman for HS2 Ltd said: 'We treat all whistleblower allegations seriously and are continuing to conduct our own investigation. Furthermore, HS2 Ltd has formally reported the allegations to HMRC, and we encourage anyone who believes they may have relevant information, which could support our inquiries, to report it in confidence.' 'Mark Wild, our chief executive, has been clear that HS2 faces serious cost and schedule challenges. He is now undertaking a comprehensive review which will report to the government in due course and lead to a full reset of the company and project. This work is yet to be concluded and, given the scale and complexity of HS2, it is vital that Mark is given the time to carry it out properly.' A senior Whitehall source said: 'He [Wild] is looking under the bonnet and is not liking what he is finding,' said a source, adding that Alexander would point to 'ministerial mismanagement', a 'lack of ministerial oversight' and an organisation 'not fit for purpose'.

Man Utd made Osimhen decision hours before Gyokeres gave final answer

Manchester United have eyed up both Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres this summer with the Sporting Lisbon star now rejecting the chance to move to Old Trafford Manchester United opened discussions with Victor Osimhen over a summer move to Old Trafford - only to find out shortly after that Viktor Gyokeres has rejected the opportunity to reunite with Ruben Amorim. The Red Devils are in the market for more firepower this summer and have several frontmen on their shortlist. Osimhen and Gyokeres have both been under consideration such has been their prolific nature in recent years. ‌ Footmercato claimed the Premier League side have opened discussions with Osimhen, but were still expected to pursue the signing of Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. Reports in Portugal now claim the Swede has turned down the chance to move to Manchester with his agents informing United chiefs of their decision. ‌ Gyokeres is ready to pursue a new challenge and has threatened strike action to force through a move away. He said on Instagram: "There is a lot of talks at the moment, most of it is false. I will speak when the time is right." Last term the Swede, who has played in England with the likes of Coventry and Swansea, broke the 50 goal barrier in Portugal. Across his two seasons he's come up with almost 100 goals. Osimhen meanwhile has just spent the year on loan in Turkey, helping Galatasaray claim the league title. He scored 37 times to further put himself in the shop window. Neither he nor Gyokeres will be sold on the cheap as Arsenal also eye the Sporting star. Sporting president Frederico Varandas has said: "One thing you should already know is me better. Threats, blackmail and insults don't work with me. I can guarantee that Viktor Gyökeres will not leave for €60m+10m (£51m+£8.5m) because I never promised him that. This game that the agent is playing only makes the situation worse. To this day, Sporting has not had an offer for Viktor Gyökeres, neither today nor last season." Former United star Rio Ferdinand has said this week that the club should've prioritised a move for Osimhen ahead of Gyokeres with the Nigerian no longer wanted by Napoli despite his impressive strike rate in the final third. ‌ He said: "I think Gyokeres, everyone's talking about him. Again, I think if I'm looking at the market now and I had to pick him or Osimhen, I'd probably pick Osimhen because of that experience." "And he's shown he's done it in multiple leagues now. And he's done it internationally as well. I think he's a top-class number nine who, again, the young players will be able to learn from. I'm not saying that Gyokeres would fail. I'm just saying that if I had a preference, I would go there."
