Honeymoon Murder Sparks Trend: Professional Probe Into Prospective Brides
Sparked by sensational cases like the honeymoon murder, detective agencies across the state are witnessing a surge in pre-wedding inquiries - most of them targeted towards young women.
From social media activity and past relationships to behaviour, friend circles, even criminal records - everything is being scrutinized before the wedding rituals begin.
"After the Sonam Raghuvanshi case, we have seen a sharp rise in requests to investigate girls. People want to know about their character, if they have boyfriends, criminal backgrounds... basically, everything," said Rajesh Pandey, who heads a local detective agency.
"We have received 18 such cases recently, and most of them want only this kind of targeted verification," he said.
Previously, investigations of this sort were mostly sought to uncover extra-marital affairs or financial fraud.
But now, agencies say the focus has shifted to deeply personal aspects of a woman's life - college friendships, online behaviour, call records, even the criminal record of ex-boyfriends.
"Earlier, people would hire detectives only in rare cases. Now we are seeing 70 to 80 inquiries every month," said Subhash Chaudhary, Zonal Head of Action Detective Services. "For some families, a detective is now more important than a pandit. Love marriages and online relationships have led to a new fear - no one wants to take a chance anymore," he added.
Detective agencies are even offering structured pre-marriage verification packages, ranging from Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh.
These include surveillance, digital forensics and background checks. One agency's checklist includes dressing style, voice tone, friends group, daily schedule, and hours spent online.
Behind the surge lies fear-fuelled by crimes where women were accused of killing their husbands post-marriage, like the infamous case of Muskan Rastogi -- who, along with her boyfrien allegedly killed her husband, Saurabh Rajput. Some allegedly did it on their honeymoon -- like Indore-based Sonam Raghuvanshi, who allegedly conspired with her boyfriend to kill husband Raja Raghuvanshi. Others allegedly planned murders and hid bodies in suitcases and drums.
Psychologists are sounding the alarm.
"People are adopting crime-show thinking and applying it to real life. Watching too many crime serials is blurring their perception of trust," said Dr Satyakant Trivedi, a Bhopal-based clinical psychologist. "Marriages are supposed to start with trust. Now they start with doubt," he added.

Two among seven held in jewellery robbery case in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: Cyberabad police arrested two Bihar natives among seven accused in the Khazana jewellery robbery case that took place on August 12. According to police, the accused conducted a recce of jewellery showrooms in Chandanagar for 20 days before selecting the Khazana showroom. The Bihar-based accused had planned to loot gold and diamond jewellery shops in Hyderabad using firearms. With the help of Deepak Kumar Sah, a welding worker, they procured two second-hand bikes on July 31 and carried out surveillance of the showrooms. During the robbery, the accused opened fire at Deputy Manager Satish Kumar, injuring his left knee, and looted around 10 kg of silver articles, including gold-coated silver. Police said Aashish Kumar Singh was later apprehended in Maharashtra, and based on his information, Deepak Kumar Sah, who arranged stay, vehicles, and helped identify targets, was also arrested. Hong Kong Democracy Activist Hui Granted Asylum in Australia
(Bloomberg) -- Hong Kong pro-democracy activist Ted Hui said he's been granted asylum in Australia, more than four years after he left the city to evade national security charges. The former lawmaker said in a post on Facebook that he'd received written notice from the Department of Home Affairs granting protection visas to him, his wife, children and parents. 'This decision reflects values of freedom, justice, and compassion that my family will never take for granted,' he said. The Australian Home Affairs department said by email it doesn't comment on individual cases due to privacy. The Hong Kong government issued a statement saying it disapproves of 'the harboring of criminals in any form by any country.' 'The HKSAR Government will do everything possible and use all legal means to pursue and combat criminals who endanger national security,' according to the statement, which didn't name Hui or identify other fugitives. UK-based Hong Kong activist Tony Chung was earlier this month granted asylum in Britain, according to a Threads post on Sunday. In December, the Hong Kong government canceled the passports of seven overseas-based activists, including Hui, under the homegrown security law enacted last year. A continuing crackdown on perceived threats and the introduction of the China-imposed security legislation have led to the imprisonment of dozens of former activists in the city after massive pro-democracy protests roiled the ex-British colony in 2019. CCTV Shows 2 Men Raining Bullets On Elvish Yadav's Gurugram House
CCTV footage surfaced showing two men firing at the controversial YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT winner Elvish Yadav's house in Gurugram on Sunday morning. The one-minute clip shows three masked men arriving outside Elvish Yadav's house on a bike around 5:30 am. A few minutes later, two of them began raining bullets at the YouTuber's house. They then took a pause - for what supposedly looked like for loading their guns, and continued to shoot at the residence. One of the shooters even stood on the main gate and opened fire. At least over 25 shots were fired at Mr Yadav's house. The three men fled the scene immediately. Mr Yadav was not at home at the time of the incident. According to the police, he had gone outside Haryana for some work. However, the caretaker of the house and some family members were inside, but no one was injured. Hours after the incident, the notorious Himanshu Bhau gang took responsibility for the firing in a social media post, accusing the YouTuber of promoting gambling. The post featured two gun illustrations and the text 'BHAU GANG SINCE 2020'. The gang is reportedly led by Portugal-based fugitive gangster Himanshu Bhau. "Today, the bullets that were fired at Elvish Yadav's house were fired by us, Neeraj Faridpur and Bhau Ritoliya. Today, we have introduced ourselves to him. He has ruined many homes by promoting betting. And all these social media bugs, we are warning that if anyone is found promoting betting, they can get a call or a bullet at any time. So all those who are into betting, be ready," the post read. NDTV, however, cannot confirm the authenticity of the post. Mr Yadav's father, who was inside the house at the time of the firing, said they were sleeping when they heard the shots being fired. "We heard a sound around 5.30 in the morning. When we came outside and looked, we saw that bullets had been fired. Then we immediately checked the CCTV. We found that there were two people involved for sure, and probably a third one too. We informed the police," Ram Avtar Yadav said. Mr Yadav's father added that he was not aware of his son being involved in any gambling promotion and that he had not received any threat. Mr Yadav has not yet filed a police complaint, officials said.
