Lebanon's President signs banking secrecy law amendments
President Joseph Aoun signed a series of amendments to Lebanon's banking secrecy law Thursday after Parliament passed the bill. The reform is seen as a significant milestone in Lebanon's broader financial recovery agenda.
Law No. 1, dated April 24, 2025, amends specific clauses within the longstanding Banking Secrecy Law of 1956, specifically paragraphs (e) and (f) of Article 7, as well as Article 150 of the Monetary and Credit Law of August 1, 1963, as previously modified by Law No. 106 of October 28, 2022.
The president requested that the law be published according to constitutional procedures, ensuring its swift enforcement.

President Aoun: Nothing Can Intimidate the Judiciary
President Joseph Aoun highlighted that the brutal assassination of the four judge martyrs at Sidon Court 26 years ago remains a deep wound in the nation's conscience and in the heart of Lebanese justice. He paid tribute to the honorable judges—Hassan Othman, Imad Shehab, Assem Abu Daher, and Walid Hermouch—who fell on this day in 1999 while carrying out their sacred duty at the Criminal Court chamber in Sidon's Palace of Justice. They gave their lives defending the independence of the judiciary and the dignity of justice in Lebanon. Strongly condemning this terrorist act that targeted the pillars of justice in Lebanon, President Aoun affirmed that nothing will intimidate the judiciary or prevent it from fulfilling its noble mission. Justice is stronger than bullets, and truth will always outlast injustice. The sacrifice of these pure-hearted martyrs will not be in vain. Lebanon will continue to pursue the truth and hold those responsible accountable, no matter how much time passes. He concluded by saying that the Lebanese judiciary will stand tall, and the rule of law will ultimately prevail. May God bless our righteous martyrs and guide us toward true and lasting justice.

Lebanon may propose that US envoy mediate to halt Israeli escalation, resolve disputes

'They are relying on the fact that U.S. envoy to Syria Tom Barrack, who is of Lebanese origins, can carry out this mission in light of his closeness to U.S. Presiden Donald Trump and his preliminary success in the Syrian file until now, and also because he greatly understands the Lebanese situation and the Lebanese thinking,' al-Anbaa said. 'What's important is for Tel Aviv to accept such a proposal, seeing as it is reiterating its stance on the need to disarm Hezbollah north of the Litani River … while accusing Hezbollah of rebuilding its military arsenal through manufacturing drones,' al-Anbaa added.
