HYDERABAD: A senior bank manager and his wife were duped of 66 lakh by fraudsters posing as representatives of stock market investment and trading firms. Between Feb and May, the victims transferred the funds to bank accounts specified by the fraudsters.
Based on the banker's complaint, a case was filed at the cyber security bureau's Warangal police station on Friday.
The senior manager, employed at a bank in Hanumakonda, alleged that cybercriminals posed as stock market brokers contacted his wife through Facebook advertisement and swindled 66 lakh.
According to the complainant, his wife clicked on a post in late Jan purporting to represent two stock trading companies.
This led to WhatsApp chats from various phone numbers, where fraudsters posing as executives of companies promised returns of 300% to 400% via block, IPO, and FoF tradings.

The ‘Big' reason why you must carefully read Facebook and Instagram's terms and conditions

After years of training its generative AI models on billions of public images from Facebook and Instagram , Meta is reportedly seeking access to billions of photos users haven't publicly uploaded, sparking fresh privacy debates. While the social media giant explicitly states it is not currently training its AI models on these private photos, the company has declined to clarify whether it might do so in the future or what rights it will hold over these images, a report has said. The new initiative, first reported by TechCrunch on Friday (June 27) sees Facebook users encountering pop-up messages when attempting to post to Stories. These prompts ask users to opt into "cloud processing," which would allow Facebook to "select media from your camera roll and upload it to our cloud on a regular basis." The stated purpose is to generate "ideas like collages, recaps, AI restyling or themes like birthdays or graduations." The report notes that by agreeing to this feature, users also consent to Meta's AI terms, which permit the analysis of "media and facial features" from these unpublished photos, alongside metadata like creation dates and the presence of other people or objects. Users also grant Meta the right to "retain and use" this personal information. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Meta used public, not private, data train its generative AI models According to The Verge, Meta recently acknowledged that it used data from all public content published on Facebook and Instagram since 2007 to train its generative AI models. Although the company stated it only used public posts from adult users over 18, it has remained vague about the precise definition of 'public' and what constituted an 'adult user' in 2007. Meta public affairs manager , Ryan Daniels, has reiterated to the publication that this new 'cloud processing' feature is not currently used for training its AI models, a, told The Verge, "[The story by the publication] implies we are currently training our AI models with these photos, which we aren't. This test doesn't use people's photos to improve or train our AI models," Maria Cubeta, a Meta comms manager, was quoted as saying. Cubeta also described the feature as 'very early,' innocuous, and entirely opt-in, stating, "Camera roll media may be used to improve these suggestions, but are not used to improve AI models in this test." Furthermore, while Meta also said that opting in grants permission to retrieve only 30 days' worth of camera roll data at a time, Meta's own terms suggest some data retention may be longer. 'Camera roll suggestions based on themes, such as pets, weddings and graduations, may include media that is older than 30 days,' Meta's says. Who is Simran, Indian woman who vanished after arriving in US for marriage? (Lindenwold Police Department/ Facebook) Lindenwold, NJ, police, said Simran did not appear to be worried or distressed in the video. Her international phone works only via Wi-Fi. Not much is known about Simran at this time as police have not been able to reach her relatives in India. While investigators were told Simran came to the United States for an arranged marriage, they believe that it is possible that may not have had an intention to get married, and may have simply wanted a free trip to America. Simran has been described as being 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. She has a small scar on the left side of her forehead, and was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a white T-shirt, black flip flops, and small diamond-studded earrings. Simran does not have any relatives in the US, and does not speak English. This incident comes just a couple of months after 20-year-old Sudiksha Konanki, an Indian student at the University of Pittsburgh, vanished from a Punta Cana beach. Days after a massive search, her parents said they believe she drowned during her spring break in the Dominican Republic. Konanki was last seen on March 6 at the Riu Republic Resort in Punta Cana while on vacation in the Dominican Republic. Joshua Riibe, a 22-year-old St. Cloud University student in Minnesota and the last known person to have seen Konanki, was held for questioning, but eventually allowed to leave. After a trial lasting more than five hours, Judge Edwin Rijo ruled that Riibe, who is classified as a witness in the disappearance case, should have full rights under Dominican law and no restrictions on his movement.

Ex-MLA Lingaiah labelled as a disturber of peace

Nakrekal (Nalgonda): Tension prevailed near Nakrekal Police Station in Nalgonda district as a large group of women staged a protest demanding the arrest of former MLA Chirumarthi Lingaiah and BRS state leader Cheruku Sudhakar. The protest was triggered following the arrest of a BRS social media activist Nagendra Babu by the police on Friday. In response, former MLA Lingaiah visited the police station and allegedly lashed out at Circle Inspector Rajashekar. The women alleged that Babu was posting false and misleading content on social media. They claimed that instead of supporting police action, former MLA Lingaiah was spreading baseless allegations and blaming the Congress party, which they condemned as inappropriate. The women further accused BRS leaders of creating unrest in peaceful villages. Holding placards and raising slogans, the women demanded the immediate arrest of both Chirumarthi Lingaiah for making false allegations, and Cheruku Sudhakar for his alleged involvement in inciting disturbances. Later, the protestors submitted a formal representation to the CI. The demonstration saw significant participation from local women, asserting their stand against misinformation and political provocation. It may be mentioned here that the former Nakrekal MLA Lingaiah, on Friday, had alleged that police were acting like Congress agents and targeting BRS activists for questioning on social media. He had condemned the arrest of BRS worker Nagendra Babu from Mangalapally village, who posted a comment in a local WhatsApp group that went viral. Earlier this week, Lingaiah also alleged harassment by officials backed by the ruling party. He alleged that despite making 26 phone calls to the District Collector regarding an issue, there was no response, which forced him to approach the Grievance Day programme on Monday where, after a lengthy argument with the Collector, he submitted his complaint. He further alleged that former Nakrekal Market Committee Chairman Koppula Pradeep Reddy and former Chinnakaparthy Sarpanch Boya Vanishreen's representations were being ignored deliberately. He claimed officials were submitting false reports under pressure from the ruling party and MLA as part of a political conspiracy against Pradeep Reddy.
