Test-Driving The 2025 Toyota 4Runner

Forbes23-04-2025
The 2025 4Runner is a certified rock star, getting attention everywhere I rolled during its week's test. I even came out of the library one day and a pack of dude-bros were kvelling over its tough flanks, sturdy tires and can-do flavor. It also drives as well as it looks.
Assorted 4Runners
2025 introduces a redesigned platform, enhanced powertrain options and delivering a 'more modern interior.' Its hybrid powertrain is now available across various trims, including the TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Trailhunter, and Platinum models. My tester was the Limited.
2025 Toyota 4Runner2
It looks both rugged and dressed for dinner, suitable for the mud and out to the club, or just a pleasant outing on a weekend. What I particularly liked about the body is how, as your eye moves back to front, you see each element is consciously designed - there isn't any wasted space. It's got an in-your-face grille, muscular wheel arches and a more aerodynamic profile.
Like its body, the interior of the 2025 4Runner is both functional and upscale. The dashboard now includes a 14.0-inch touchscreen (optional on some trims). All models come equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The digital gauge cluster is standard on all but the base SR5 model, which features a 7.0-inch display. Additionally, there's a wireless phone charger, multiple USB-C ports, and a digital rearview mirror on higher trims.
Comfort-wise, it's on point. Soft-touch materials, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof make it a pleasant cockpit for long distances. Visibility was average - the right rear headrest and the position of the C-pillar obscured my view initially, but I got used to it.
2025 Toyota 4Runner
Under the hood, you have a wide choice in powertrains - Hybrid EV, Plug-in Hybrid EV, Battery EV and Fuel Cell EV.
My trim was the Limited, so I had the I-FORCE 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 278 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing for the 2025 4Runner starts at around $42,000, with hybrid models beginning around $53,440. Top-tier trims like the Trailhunter and TRD Pro can reach up to $68,350, depending on options and configurations. My Limited trim starts at $57,400, $62,740 with all options and destination charge.
2025 Toyota 4Runner
On the road, the 2025 4Runner feels solid and sturdy, with responsive but not outstanding handling, and it groans a bit when you give it the gun. It's not really a vehicle where one gets a thrill out of cornering, body roll and blastoffs. But it holds the road, it's easy to park and does what it does well.
Having tested some of the most ferocious off-roading vehicles, I find the 4Runner isn't so over-the-top. You'll enjoy your off-roading but you'll need to be cautious as well. If you really want the ability to mash it, look at the Land Cruiser. But for the casual weekend off-roader, this is ideal. It can also handle towing, within reason.
Despite the small engine, the 4Runner only got about 21 MPG city/highway combined. There's also no getting around the dinky engine when you try and pass - and it takes a bit.
Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite is standard across all trims including features like adaptive cruise control, lane departure alert, and pre-collision systems. Higher trims also offer additional safety technologies such as a digital rearview mirror and enhanced parking assist systems.
Conclusion: Despite beefs, the 4Runner remains one of the best all-around vehicles from one of the most reliable manufacturers.

Ensure Quality Repairs by Choosing a Reputable Autobody Repair Shop in New York

Maria grabbed coffee near Times Square last Tuesday when a driver smacked into her Lexus. Simple dent, right? Wrong. Three shops gave her wildly different quotes: $800, $2,400, and $1,650. Same damage. Welcome to New York auto repair, where nothing makes sense until you know what to look for. These price gaps aren't always about getting ripped off. Sometimes shops just work differently some cut corners, others do things right. The trick is figuring out who's who before you hand over your keys. Why This Actually Matters Jake learnt this lesson during Fleet Week. His rental got hit in Brooklyn, so he picked the closest shop. Seemed logical. Six weeks later, the rental company hit him with extra charges because their inspection found the repair falling apart. A $500 fix turned into a $2,000 headache that lasted months. Cars today aren't like in the old days. They're packed with computers, sensors, and safety stuff that all works together. When someone who learnt repair work twenty years ago starts messing with these systems, they can break things that keep you alive in crashes. The good shops know this and actually train their people properly instead of just winging it. Spotting the Pros Professional Certifications and Standards Walk into decent shops and you'll see ASE and I-CAR certificates hanging up. These cost real cash and require ongoing training. Lots of places skip them because they're expensive and time-consuming. But they separate the professionals from the guys just trying to make a buck. Good shops have different people for different jobs. Framework, paint, electronics – these are separate skills that take years to get right. You don't want the paint guy trying to fix your car's computer system. Insurance Provider Partnerships Big insurance companies like State Farm and Geico don't recommend shops randomly. They check these places out thoroughly because their reputation depends on it. When a shop works with multiple major insurers, they've probably earned that trust. Advanced Equipment and Technology Professional places have invested hundreds of thousands in proper equipment – computerised frame machines, paint booths, and diagnostic computers that actually talk to your car. Cheaper places try getting by with older equipment that can't handle modern vehicles properly. This equipment needs regular maintenance too. Quality shops schedule this stuff religiously because precision matters with safety systems. What Good Service Looks Like Professional shops want you coming back next time something happens. They send updates, take photos of the work, and actually answer when you call. They're not trying to squeeze every penny out of one repair and disappear. Read online reviews, but look for patterns. Everyone complains about something, but notice what customers mention. Clear communication? Are projects finishing on time? Problems getting resolved without fights? These details matter. Questions You Need to Ask Before dropping off your car, have real conversations: What does your warranty actually cover? How do you handle insurance claims? How often will you update me during repairs? Can you show photos of similar work you've done? What happens when you find more damage? Good shops love these questions and give straight answers. Places that get defensive or give vague responses are telling you something important. Paperwork That Protects You Legitimate shops give detailed written estimates breaking down everything – labour, parts, materials. This prevents surprise charges later and keeps everyone honest. Parts make a big difference. Original manufacturer parts fit perfectly and last longer but cost more. Aftermarket parts save money but might not be quite the same quality. Honest shops explain these choices instead of just pushing whatever makes them the most profit. Regulatory Compliance and Consumer Protection New York protects customers with regulations about written estimates, minimum warranties, and disclosure requirements. Professional shops know these rules and follow them consistently. They stand behind their work with real warranties and don't make you fight to use them. Checking Out the Shop Nothing beats visiting in person. Well-organised shops with clean work areas usually approach repairs the same way – systematically and professionally. Talk to the staff. Do they know your specific car? Can they explain what needs doing in normal English? Don't automatically go with the cheapest quote. Rock-bottom prices often mean corners get cut or they missed damage you'll pay for later. The most expensive isn't automatically the best either, but it might reflect better materials or more thorough work. Establishing Long-Term Service Partnerships New York driving is brutal on cars. Finding a shop you trust pays off over time. They learn your vehicle, understand what matters to you, and they're there when you need them again. Strong relationships happen when shops consistently deliver what they promise, when they promise it, for the price they quoted. When you find that, you've got something valuable in a city where good service gets surprisingly hard to find. Many quality autobody shops in New York do more than just fix accident damage. They help with maintenance, inspections, and advice for keeping cars running well under tough city conditions. The Bottom Line Choosing the right auto body shop takes homework. Check credentials, visit facilities, ask tough questions, and pay attention to how they treat you during the sales process. That usually predicts how they'll handle problems later. Time spent finding the right place saves headaches and money and makes sure your car comes back safe and looking right. In a city where your car takes daily punishment from traffic, weather, and parking spaces designed for bicycles, having a repair shop you actually trust becomes invaluable. Smart car owners treat finding good shops like finding good doctors – essential relationships worth building and keeping. When accidents happen (and they will), having established trust with professionals who know your vehicle makes terrible situations manageable. The difference between random shops and quality places often shows up months later, when repairs either hold up perfectly or start falling apart. Choose wisely now, because fixing bad repair work always costs more than doing it right the first time. TIME BUSINESS NEWS

Gemini starts replacing Google Assistant on more Wear OS watches

After initially teasing Gemini for Wear OS at I/O 2025, Google commenced its rollout with the Galaxy Watch 8 and Pixel Watch last week. Now, the company is expanding the rollout, bringing Gemini to more Wear OS watches. Google's rollouts of new features usually take a few weeks but can sometimes stretch upwards of a month or more. In its initial Gemini for Wear OS release, the company mentioned the expansion will continue "over the coming weeks." Thankfully, the company is not making you wait that long to experience its AI-powered assistant on your wrist. According to 9to5Google, Google is expanding Gemini access to more Wear OS users, including those with Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus watches running Wear OS 5 or older. You should see a Gemini app update on the Wear OS Play Store. In case the app auto-updates itself, you'll get a notification about the AI assistant being available on your wrist. It will explain that you can talk to Gemini on your watch by holding down the side button or saying "Hey Google" if the appropriate setting is enabled. You can also use the Google tile for quick access to Gemini actions or add a watch face complication. Gemini on Wear OS should make voice commands less frustrating to use These are all the same ways you could trigger Google Assistant previously. Google was spotted working on a new raise-to-speak Gemini gesture for Wear OS, but that has not gone official yet. The difference is with the response, as Gemini will provide smarter and more informative responses. Plus, it will be better at understanding your natural language. Remember that Gemini on Wear OS does not process any data locally. So, it will only work as long as your watch is connected to your phone or has LTE connectivity. Some users on Reddit report they still have access to Assistant even after the app has updated and been renamed to Gemini. This could be due to Google not yet pushing the server-side changes live on their device. If you are in the same boat, you can try restarting your watch to see if that helps. Otherwise, your only option is to wait. Google Gemini Google LLC PRODUCTIVITY Price: Free 4.5 Download
