VE Day commemorations to show Britain is 'stronger together'
The Ceremonial Lead of The Household Division has said that today's VE Day commemorations, including a military procession and RAF fly-past, will 'send a message that we are stronger together,' writes India McTaggart.
Garrison Sergeant Major Andrew Stokes, who designed today's parade and trained the 1,300 members of the Armed Forces participating, said: 'The VVIPS today are those veterans who gave so much 80 years ago and we're here to support them.'
'It's a celebration for the nation, for the commonwealth, for the allies, to get together. We were handed freedom 80 years ago and that was absolutely a team effort,' he told Sky News.
He also explained that his commitment to almost four decades in the Armed Forces was 'inspired' by the generation that served in the Second World War.
'Their legacy lives on, their example and their reputation lives on 80 years later.'

What is happening today?
Celebrations in central London begin at midday, when 1,300 soldiers, airmen and sailors will begin marching from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace.
At 1.45pm, historic aircraft and the Royal Air Force (RAF) Red Arrows will fly past Buckingham Palace as the Royal family gathers on the balcony.
The King and Queen will later host a tea party in the palace gardens and Sir Keir Starmer is hosting a street party on Downing Street.
HMS Belfast, the Second World War frigate now moored in the Thames, will commemorate the day with a gun salute.
Other street parties and picnics will be held across the country.

Thousands to gather in central London to mark VE Day
Thousands of people will line the streets of London as four days of commemorations to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe are set to begin.
Nato allies will join 1,300 members of the armed forces for a procession in the city, and the words of Sir Winston Churchill's 1945 victory speech will be spoken by actor Timothy Spall to kick off events for the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
The royal family are scheduled to take part in engagements over the next four days, as they hope 'nothing will detract or distract' from the commemorations following the Duke of Sussex's bombshell interview with the BBC.
The King and Queen are 'looking forward' to the week's events, and it is understood that, out of respect for the surviving veterans, Buckingham Palace hopes 'nothing will detract or distract from celebrating with full cheer and proud hearts that precious victory and those brave souls, on this most special and poignant of anniversaries'.

King Charles' clear message to Prince Harry as he awards David Beckham knighthood
David Beckham is finally getting getting his Knighthood. David Beckham has been after a Knighthood from the Royal Family for years and now it seems that his dreams are finally becoming a reality. The footballing icon is set to become 'Sir' in the King's Birthday Honours list next week. Over the years, the 50 year old has become friendly with the monarch and his son, the Prince of Wales. Beckham recently joined King Charles at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, was invited to his first Buckingham Palace State Banquet last year, and has made key contributions to charities linked to Charles and William, writes The Express. And it's believed Prince William will be delighted that the former Manchester United player will finally be given the accolade, however there's one royal who will be less than pleased by the news. Prince Harry was once close pals with Posh and Becks as they were also guests at his wedding to wife Meghan Markle in 2018. Beckham also supported Prince Harry's 2018 Invictus Games by jetting to Sydney for the occasion but this seems to be where their friendship went downhill as the Duke didn't want his friend involved in photo-ops. Since then Meghan accused the Beckhams of leaking stories about them, in a major deterioration of their friendship. According to reports, the two couples no longer speak, and Harry has watched from afar as his former pal enjoys close relationships with his estranged family. Last month, it was reported that the Sussexes appeared to get involved with the Beckhams fallout with their son, Brooklyn. The eldest Beckham child, Brooklyn is said to have a ongoing feud with this family and even snubbed his father's 50th birthday celebrations last month. But Meghan and Harry appear to be offering support to Brooklyn as they invited him and his wife, Nicola Peltz, for dinner at their Montecito home last month. The two women are said to have found 'common ground' after they have both been accused of wrecking their husbands' families. The Peltz-Beckhams have now reportedly brought in top lawyer Jenny Afia, known for representing Prince Harry, to assist with "reputation management." The British solicitor, who works at the Schillings law firm, recently appeared in the documentary The Princes and the Press. A source revealed to the Mail on Sunday: "All of a sudden they have enlisted the help of the Sussexes' long-serving lawyer. " Nicola and Brooklyn are getting fed up of stories running they don't like. Nicola likes to control everything and they have taken this rather drastic action. "For the Beckhams the irony isn't lost. They fell out with Meghan and Harry after they accused them of leaking stories – they were furious and Brooklyn knows that." "The two couples are very close indeed," they continued. Harry and Meghan 'feared children's passports were being held up by King'
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly became exasperated as they struggled to get British passports for their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet and believed their royal titles had something to do with the delay Prince Harry and Meghan Markle feared passports for their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet were being held up due to the use of their royal titles, it has been claimed. The couple are said to have been left exasperated as they waited months for British passports to arrive and reportedly believed it was due to the fact they included their children's royal titles on the application. Archie and Lilibet got prince and princess titles when their grandfather King Charles became monarch in 2022. The first time their titles were formally announced was after Lilibet's christening in March 2023. Due to the reported hold-up, it is said that Harry started to explore the possibility of changing his family surname to Spencer in a nod to his late mother, Princess Diana. A source close to Harry and Meghan reportedly told the Guardian: "The King hadn't wanted Archie and Lili to carry the titles, most of all the HRH, and the British passports, once created, would be the first and perhaps the only legal proof of their names." However, Buckingham Palace has strongly denied that the King or any of his aides had anything to do with the delays in issuing the passports. Eventually, the passports were issued but the insider added: "Harry was at a point where British passports for his children with their updated Sussex surnames (since the death of Queen Elizabeth II) were being blocked with a string of excuses over the course of five months. "Out of sheer exasperation, he went to his uncle to effectively say: 'My family are supposed to have the same name and they're stopping that from happening because the kids are legally HRH, so if push comes to shove, if this blows up and they won't let the kids be called Sussex, then can we use Spencer as a surname?'." They also claimed that the Sussexes want their children to retain their titles and HRH styles so they can choose to become working royals if they so wish when they are adults. A spokesperson for the Sussexes said they do not comment on private issues about the couple's children. The Home Office declined to comment. Archie and Lilibet are eligible for both US and UK passports as dad Harry is a UK citizen while mum Meghan is an American citizen. There has been continued controversy over the Sussexes' HRH titles since the pair quit their royal roles five years ago. As part of their Megxit negotiations with the Palace, Meghan and the Duke of Sussex agreed to stop using 'Her Royal Highness' and 'His Royal Highness' at the end of March 2020. They still retain the styles, with Harry having had his since birth, but they are essentially held in abeyance. However, earlier this year, it emerged Meghan had used her HRH style on a gift basket sent to make-up entrepreneur Jamie Kern Lima last year, with a monogrammed card reading: 'With Compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex'. Kern Lima showed an image of the present in footage of her podcast interview with Meghan. It contained a jar of Meghan's jam which she has started selling as part of her As Ever lifestyle business brand. A source described the basket as a 'personal gift'. The duchess's representatives denied that the couple used them, but a source later said that the Sussexes did not use HRH publicly but retained the style, and did not use it for commercial purposes. Piers Morgan's wife has 'brutal one word dig' after Meghan Markle shares video
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Piers Morgan's wife, Celia Walden, has launched a scathing criticism of Meghan Markle, calling her "desperate" following the release of an unseen video by the Duchess. Meghan Markle, 43, delighted supporters recently with the release of an intimate video where she and Prince Harry, 40, are seen celebrating in their Santa Barbara maternity ward as they anticipated the arrival of their daughter, Princess Lilibet. While the footage was met with enthusiasm by many for showcasing Meghan's playful side, not everyone was charmed, including Celia Walden. Walden, who is married to Piers Morgan, made an appearance on ITV's Lorraine where she joined Ranvir Singh and Reverend Richard Coles to dissect the controversial dance video and express her disapproval of the former Suits star's actions. READ MORE -Prince William makes 'family jibe' as he visits Prince Harry's former regiment READ MORE -Noel Edmonds in huge ITV comeback with help of Mr Blobby in major move "I think we're going to see more and more stuff offered up for public consumption," the broadcaster predicted before stating, "As she gets a bit more desperate to make people like her," only to be interrupted by Ranvir. The host questioned: "Is that what you think it is, rather than they're in that generation of oversharing is a thing everybody does anyway." Walden doubled down on her stance, saying: "That is true, but I do feel with her, very, very little is not premeditated, I have to say. I'm not sure how much he has to do with the decision-making. I could be being very unfair, perhaps he's fully in charge in that relationship.", reports the Mirror. (Image: Meghan/Instagram) (Image: ITV) Reverend Richard has commented on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's need to fund a "very lavish life" noting: "The opportunities for earning that kind of money you'd need to keep that show on the road, are few and the pressure then is on if you're going to feed the beast, what's the next tip that you throw." Reflecting on Meghan and Harry's choice to step down as senior working royals in January 2020 with the aim of achieving financial independence and more privacy, Celia remarked: "There's no judgement, but you can't have both." While some have criticised the Duchess, Ranvir Singh defended the video shared by Meghan, saying, "I kind of love it because I think it's really funny and warm. It's impressive, isn't it? She's a great dancer – not too sure about Harry." In celebration of little Lilibet's fourth birthday, the Duchess posted a video captioned: "Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates... so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn't work - there was only one thing left to do!". The clip showcases the Royal couple dancing to music in the maternity room at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, following lyrics like "Been pregnant for way too long," with Meghan twerking energetically alongside Harry sporting his classic 'dad moves'. Meghan proudly showcased her blossoming bump, dancing freely around the room with total abandon. One of the lyrics seemed a sly jab at her detractors, proclaiming: "I'm a baby momma, I can do what I want."
