Over 2.4 Million People Donated Blood in Egypt Over Five Years

According to a report by the Ministry of Health and Population, a total of 2,491,759 individuals donated blood through 28 centres nationwide between 2020 and 2025, with many first-time donors continuing as regular contributors. Over this period, Egypt's national blood transfusion services have undergone extensive upgrades, enhancing service quality, infrastructure, and workforce development across the country.
These efforts were accompanied by the establishment of six plasma donation centres in Agouza, Abbassia, Dar El Salam, Tanta, Alexandria, and Minya, part of a broader push toward achieving self-sufficiency in plasma derivatives.
The National Blood Transfusion Center has maintained international standards, holding accreditation from the AABB since 2014 and securing its fourth renewal in December 2022. Similarly, the Red Cell Reference Laboratory (RCRL) remains accredited by the Egyptian Accreditation Council, with its certification extended through 2028. In 2023, the fourth edition of Egypt's national blood transfusion standards was approved and distributed in both Arabic and English, developed in coordination with the World Health Organization.
Technological upgrades have played a central role in the expansion. Advanced blood separation devices and x-ray machines have enabled the production of more than 2.47 million separated blood samples. Flash luminescence virus testing has been introduced in 98% of blood centres, and nucleic acid testing is now in use across all national blood services.
As of March 2025, hospital-based blood banks have also adopted nucleic acid testing as part of a project supported by the World Bank, contributing to the testing of over 2.5 million samples at national centres and an additional 1.84 million in hospitals.

It explained that the Egyptian market continues to promote local manufacturing and technology transfer despite challenges linked to investment in research and development. It noted that in 2024, the Egyptian government signed three financing agreements with the European Union worth 36 million euros to support vaccine manufacturing and scientific research development. The report also praised the legal framework regulating clinical trials, including Law No. 214 of 2020 and its executive regulations No. 927 of 2022, which improve ethical oversight and participant protection. The report addressed health and population achievements related to medicine demand, noting Egypt's efforts to confront challenges associated with population growth and non-communicable disease prevalence through presidential initiatives for early detection and awareness. It also commended sustainable achievements in combating infectious diseases, highlighting the World Health Organization's declaration of Egypt as free from malaria, measles, and rubella, along with notable progress toward eliminating hepatitis C and B. Furthermore, the report underscored national efforts to combat diabetes through screening, early diagnosis campaigns, updating treatment guidelines, conducting the Stepwise survey, and distributing 3,000 HbA1c testing devices to primary healthcare units, ensuring unified care standards based on scientific evidence. It pointed to a noticeable decline in fertility rates from 3.44 births per woman in 2015 to 2.10 births in 2023, reflecting the expansion of reproductive health services, increased education rates, and women's participation in the labor market. Regarding cancer, the report stated that early detection initiatives, notably the President's initiative to support Egyptian women's health launched in 2019, achieved around 60 million visits, reflecting increased health awareness. These efforts contributed to a reduction in advanced cancer cases (stages III and IV) to reach 29 percent. State funding for cancer treatment doubled from 1.8 billion Egyptian pounds in 2020-2021 to 3.6 billion pounds in 2023-2024, along with ongoing investment in oncology infrastructure. Regarding hepatitis C, the report stated that Egypt was the first country to attain the World Health Organization's 'Gold Level' classification in October 2023, reflecting a commitment to reducing infection and mortality rates, and is a step toward complete disease elimination before 2030. Regarding HIV/AIDS, the report indicated that Egypt's prevalence rate is lower than the regional average and highlighted the provision of free antiretroviral treatment to all patients through an extensive network of specialized government centers, with no interruptions in drug availability over the past six years, demonstrating the sustainability of the healthcare system.

100 Days of Health campaign provides over 37.8mn free services in 24 days
Ministry of Health and Population announced on Saturday 9/8/2025 that a total of 37,814,233 million free medical services were provided throughout 24 days since the launch of the third edition of the '100 Days of Health' campaign, which was launched on July 15, 2025. The campaign, which is implemented in accordance with directives of Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, aims to improve healthcare services across the state. As many as 1,545,445 million services were provided by the campaign on Thursday 9/8/2025, according to Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar. The 100 Healthy Days campaign provided 565,603 services, through the primary care and family planning sector. The campaign provided 441,455 services through the therapeutic care sector, in addition to providing 66,148 services under the presidential initiatives for public health. The preventive medicine sector provided 37,477 services. Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that the campaign provided 50,618 services through the units affiliated with the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes, while the Mental Health Support Initiative provided 10,282 services. Hospitals and clinics of the General Authority for Health Insurance provided 203,712 services, Abdel Ghaffar said, adding that the Ambulance Authority provided 5,482 emergency services.

EAPD seeking doctors for Egyptian hospitals in Gabon, Eritrea - Foreign Affairs
The Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) issued a call for internists and ophthalmologists to work in the Egyptian-Gabonese Hospital in Libreville and the Egyptian clinic in the Eritrean capital, Asmara. On Wednesday, the EAPD announced that French-speaking internists wishing to work in Gabon and English-speaking ophthalmologists wishing to work in Eritrea must have a master's degree and at least five years of experience. It added that the contracts will span one year, with the option to renew for up to four years. Applicants should not be older than 55 years. They should send their CVs to the designated email by 25 August: [email protected]. The announcement comes as Egypt strengthens relations with various African countries through the EAPD. The EAPD, established in June 2014, is a government agency under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is dedicated to supporting Africa's development aspirations through capacity building, knowledge transfer, and promoting creative industries. In 2019, Egypt's Ministry of Health opened the Egyptian clinic in Asmara, under the slogan of "Long live Egypt-Africa," and dispatched a medical team of Egyptian ophthalmologists to Eritrea. In 2021, the EAPD signed a cooperation protocol with Egypt's General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) to train the medical sector of African expatriates in various fields and introduce Egypt's experience in developing the health system. The protocol, which aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the African Union Agenda 2063, also covers cooperation in transferring the experience of the Good Life initiative in the health sector to African countries. In June, the EAPD launched a pioneering study titled "The Investment Map in Africa," which will support Egyptian companies seeking to expand into African markets. The study will help Egyptian businesses explore new markets across Africa and offer detailed insights into promising sectors such as agriculture, mining, construction, technology, renewable energy, and water resource management. During his West African tour in July, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to support development in Africa, particularly through the activities of the EAPD.
