Gujarat: 2121 people hold yoga's cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds, create Guinness World Record
Vadnagar (Gujarat) [India], June 21 (ANI): A total of 2121 people made a Guinness World Record when they held Yoga's Cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds in Gujarat's Vadnagar on Saturday.
According to Richard Stunning, official adjudicator at Guinness World Records, a record with a title for the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga began on Saturday. The minimum number of participants for the record was 250; they had to hold the Yoga Cobra pose for at least a minute.
A total of 2184 participants breached the one-minute timeline; they ended up holding the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds. The Guinness World Records discounted 64 participants, after which 2121 participants held the cobra pose for two minutes and nine seconds to clinch the Guinness World Record.
'The Guinness World Records title that starts today is the most people performing the cobra pose in yoga, simultaneously. We set a guideline that everyone had to do it for at least a minute each, and we set a minimum target of 250 participants. Today, they did it for more than a minute, they did it for two minutes and nine seconds, and the total was 2185. We had to discount 64 participants. So the confirmed title is 2121 participants. Given we set a minimum of 250, this is smashing the Guinness World Record. Congratulations to everyone involved, and it's a fantastic achievement', Richard Stunning told ANI.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Health Minister Rishikesh Patel expressed his happiness over the achievement and credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the achievement.
'The world is happy with the gift that India has given to it, and PM Modi did it... As PM Modi says, This Yoga is for everyone', he told ANI.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed Yoga on the International Yoga Day on the occasion of International Yoga Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the main national event on the 11th International Yoga Day from Visakhapatnam. (ANI)

Mango farmers protest against low procurement prices offered by pulp industries in Chittoor
Mango farmers in the Chittoor district took to a protest demanding the State-mandated minimum support price (MSP) of ₹12 per kg for the Totapuri variety of mangoes, on Saturday. The protest, spearheaded by the Rythu Sangham and the Mango Growers' Welfare Association, was held in front of the District Collectorate here on the International Yoga Day, in a bid to draw the attention of the district administration to low procurement prices offered by pulp industries. Though the farmers gathered at the venue and were about to perform yoga with banners reading 'Mango Farmers' Yoga Day' as a mark of protest, some senior officials persuaded them to withdraw their move. Following this, the farmers limited the protest by holding their banners to display their dissent. A senior official said that several farmers who gathered for the protest were elderly and not accustomed to the yoga practice. 'Performing yoga postures without a proper dress code at a public venue, that too without prior practice, would be unpleasant. Hence, we pursued with the organisers to drop the idea,' he said. Later, appealing to District Collector Sumit Kumar, the farmers deplored that several pulp units were paying only ₹6 per kg, and some ramp operators a mere ₹3 per kg, despite the government's instructions to provide ₹8 per kg. They said that the officials had failed to enforce price regulations, which allowed the exploitation of farmers by the pulp units and middlemen. Responding to the protest, the Collector invited the farmers to his chamber and held discussions on the issue. He assured them that action would be taken against pulp units violating the norms. He added that the price details would be mandatorily included in the slips at the crushing units.

Enthusiasm marks International Day of Yoga in Andhra Pradesh
The month-long Yogandhra campaign organised across Andhra Pradesh culminated in the International Day of Yoga-2025 held on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, Union Ministers, and Ministers participated. The officials and staff of various departments, who had toiled day in and day out, heaved a sigh of relief as the mega event passed off without any major glitches. Contrary to the alerts of possible rain that threatened to mar the mega event, the cool breeze in the early hours, followed by the sun casting its rays after dawn provided relief to the organisers. A beaming Prime Minister heaped lavish praise on the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister, and had a special mention of the work done by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh in the smooth conduct of the month-long event. Mr. Modi said that Mr. Lokesh had set an example for others to emulate in the conduct of such mega events. Later, at a review meeting, Mr. Naidu commended the Ministers, MLAs, officials, and staff for the success of the event across the State. In NTR district, 9 lakh people had taken part in the yoga sessions organised at every Grama Sachivalayam. In Vijayawada, more than 5,000 people gathered at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium, where a huge screen was set up for the live telecast of the main event from Visakhapatnam. District Collector G. Lakshmisha and Police Commissioner S.V. Rajasekhara Babu were among the officials who took part. At the Suryalanka Beach in Bapatla district, Collector J. Venkata Murali, along with 10,000 people, participated in the Yoga Day celebrations. Many participated in various other locations across the district. In Palnadu district, a total of 9.97 lakh people participate in the yoga sessions at 5,000 venues. Collector P. Arun Babu participated at the district headquarters, where around 10,000 people participated, the I&PR Department said. In Guntur district, Collector S. Nagalakshmi participated along with 5,000 participants at the Police Parade Grounds in Guntur city. A total of 9.70 people participated at 5,130 venues. An overwhelming participation of over 8 lakh people was witnessed under the Yogandhra- 2025 initiative across the Chittoor district. In Chittoor, Collector Sumit Kumar, Superintendent of Police V.N. Manikantha Chandolu, and officials joined the public in the yoga day event at the District Police Grounds. At Rayachoti in Annamayya district, over 5,000 people took part in the event, led by Collector Sridhar Chamakuri. In Hindupur of Sri Sathya Sai district, Collector T.S. Row between Raj Bhavan and Kerala govt. over Bharat Mata portrait escalates
The row between Raj Bhavan and the Kerala government over the former's use of an image of Bharat Mata sitting astride a lion and holding a saffron flag, arguably a symbol of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), at the official State functions hosted by the Raj Bhavan appeared to escalate on Saturday (June 21, 2025). On Saturday, despite protests from the government that the Raj Bhavan's use of the picture of Bharat Mata with the saffron flag at constitutional offices or State events was a mockery of the national flag and the Constitution, Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar began the International Yoga Day celebrations by lighting a lamp in front of the very same garlanded picture, making it clear that his idea of patriotism aligned with the image of Bharat Mata with the saffron flag. On Thursday when the General Education Minister, V. Sivankutty, had walked out of an official function at the Raj Bhavan, protesting over the use of Bharat Mata picture at the State function, Mr. Arlekar had stood his ground, ruling out the removal of the picture from the Raj Bhavan's Central hall, the customary venue of official events. Following this, ABVP workers as well as SFI activists had taken out separate protests in the city, with the former showing the black flag at Mr. Sivankutty, while the SFI marched to the Raj Bhavan shouting slogans against Mr. Arlekar violating constitutional propriety. However, the BJP, which had thrown a surprise by posting a picture of Bharat Mata with the national flag in place of the saffron flag on an official Facebook post, did a volte face on Saturday. In an endorsement of the Raj Bhavan, it organised a programme at the Secretariat gate in the morning, with senior BJP leader V. Muraleedharan garlanding a picture of Bharat Mata with the saffron flag and lighting a lamp in front of it. This is the second day that the row over the saffron flag and Bharat Mata is spilling onto the streets. The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) is also marching to the Raj Bhavan later in the day to protest against the Governor's continued use of RSS imagery to depict the country as a Hindu nation Meanwhile, All Kerala Private College Teachers' Association (AKPCTA), said in a statement here that the Raj Bhavan should not be treated as a museum to display Sangh Parivar symbols. It said that it was highly objectionable that the picture of Bharat Mata with the saffron flag was being repeatedly used by the Raj Bhavan even at the Scouts and Guides events. The CPI(M)'s official mouthpiece, Deshabhimani, also used its editorial on Saturday to condemn the Governor and to proclaim that he cannot turn the Raj Bhavan into an office of the RSS. Meanwhile, Congress leader Cherian Philip issued a statement here that the position of the Governor was 'a worthless remnant' of the colonial age and that the post was a refuge for politicians who have lost their foothold on the ground. The continued disputes between the Raj Bhavan and the government was heading for a governance crisis, he added.
