Assam Agents Use Dead Man's ID To Get Passport For Bangladeshi Man, Arrested
Two men have been arrested in Assam for allegedly trying to get an Indian passport for a Bangladeshi national using fake documents created in the name of an Indian citizen who had passed away.
The two accused, Burhan Uddin and Faizur Rahman, are residents of Sribhumi district bordering Bangladesh.
The authorities detected the fraud during verification of passports, an exercise that is going on, and began a larger investigation into it.
The two men applied for the Indian passport in the name of Farooq Ahmed, an Indian citizen who died many years ago. The fake papers used to insert the Bangladeshi citizen as an Indian also bore the same name, the police said.
During verification, the police found that all the documents such as voter identity card, birth certificate, Aadhaar, and permanent account number (PAN) had been generated in Farooq Ahmed's name.
Police sources said the two accused had already obtained Aadhaar and voter identity cards using the fake documents. It was only during the passport verification stage that their luck ran out.
The police have seized several forged documents, electronic devices and computers from them. The two may have created more fake IDs for Bangladeshi nationals in the past, police sources said, adding they will be interrogated.
Whether this was a small operation or part of a larger cross-border network is under investigation, a senior police officer said.
The Assam Police are looking for the Bangladeshi man for whom the two accused tried to get the Indian passport.
"We are investigating how many Bangladeshis have disguised themselves as Indian citizens using fake documents in this chain, and whether any other individual or groups are involved in this racket," Additional Superintendent of Police Pranab Jyoti Kalita told reporters.
The Assam government has also cracked down on encroachers on government lands. Concerned over the influx of illegal migrants, neighbouring Manipur, Meghalaya and Nagaland have intensified checks at the interstate borders.

Suspected honour killing victim from Gujarat cracks NEET
PALANPUR: An 18-year-old girl from Gujarat, who was a victim of suspected honour killing, has cracked the highly competitive National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), a police official said on Wednesday. The teen from Banaskantha district was allegedly killed by her father and two uncles on June 24 at her native village, said Danta division Assistant Superintendent of Police Suman Nala. To prepare for the all-India medical entrance exam, the victim had moved to Palanpur town, and during that time, she got into a live-in relationship with a man. 'She had given NEET a few months back, but it is still unclear if she wanted to become a doctor or a nurse. As per the results announced recently, she has cleared the test with good marks,' said Nala. Based on a complaint submitted by her live-in partner Haresh Chaudhary, the Tharad police in the district on August 6 booked the girl's father Sendhabhai Patel and uncle Shivrambhai Patel for the murder, as they were against the relationship, Nala said. After the registration of FIR, police had arrested Shivrambhai and added the name of one Naran Patel to the FIR as co-accused, said the official. 'We arrested Naran Patel on Tuesday. He is a cousin of Shivrambhai and Sendhabhai, who is still absconding,' said Nala.

Mumbai: Violated for 3 months, Bangladeshi minor rescued from flesh trade racket; 12 held
Mumbai: A Bangladeshi minor girl, subjected to brutal sexual abuse and violation for three months across Maharashtra, was rescued by the Maharashtra police and at least 12 persons with direct involvement in the flesh trade racket were apprehended. The racket, operating from Naigaon near Vasai, about 50 km from Mumbai, sent shockwaves across the city as shocking details emerged about her sexual exploitation and torture for over three months, reportedly by more than 200 men. The prostitution racket, when busted by Mumbai police, revealed that the Bangladeshi girl was pushed into the flesh trade by forging her documents, and the human trafficking gang also involved some female members. Speaking to IANS, a police official shared the modus operandi of racketeers and how they trapped the minor girl into prostitution. Assistant Commissioner of Police Madan Ballal, from the Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate, described the case as both serious and sensitive due to the minor's involvement. "We have rescued two victims, one a 14-year-old minor and another aged 21. Nine suspects, including two agents, are in custody. The victims were lured to India, tortured, and forced into sexual activities. Fake documents were used to alter their ages, and we are actively investigating to apprehend the remaining accused, including the customers involved." The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of the MBVV police, under the leadership of Police Commissioner Niket Kaushik and with assistance from NGOs Exodus Road India Foundation and Harmony Foundation, conducted the operation on July 26 to free the minor from the clutches of her exploiters. The victim, originally from Bangladesh, shared a chilling account with the officials. She revealed that she fled her home after failing an examination, fearing harsh punishment from her parents. A woman named Ruby, known to the girl, lured her to Kolkata, where fake documents were created to alter her age, misrepresenting her as older to facilitate her exploitation. From Kolkata, the minor was trafficked to Nadiad in Gujarat, where she endured rape and blackmail. An elderly man allegedly took obscene photographs, using them to coerce her into prostitution. The cycle of abuse continued as she was bought and sold across multiple cities in Gujarat and Maharashtra, trapped by fear and terror. The breakthrough came when intelligence reached the MBVV police and their NGO partners about the girl's presence in Naigaon. Acting swiftly on Commissioner Kaushik's orders, the AHTU devised a meticulous plan to rescue her. The operation culminated in her liberation, and she was subsequently handed over to the Child Welfare Committee in Ulhasnagar, Thane, where she is now receiving counselling and care to help her recover from the trauma. The investigation has uncovered disturbing details, including the involvement of 12 Bangladeshi agents in the trafficking ring. Authorities have arrested nine individuals so far, including two key agents who allegedly orchestrated the operation. The Naigaon police are investigating cautiously, given the case's gravity and the minor's vulnerability. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities determined to dismantle the racket.
