The official synopsis reads, 'Within the confines of a massage parlor in Flushing, Queens, Amy and Didi navigate romance, happiness, and the obligations of family thousands of miles from home. Despite the physical and emotional toll their work extracts, the women who live at the parlor have fortified an impenetrable sisterhood.
'When tragedy strikes on Lunar New Year, Amy is forced to consider her own destiny for the first time ever. Despite finding solace in the company of Cheung, Amy must leave the city and prioritize her own spirit in order to survive. In an unseen part of New York, Blue Sun Palace explores the lives of transient souls trying to find a sense of permanence.'
'Blue Sun Palace' nabbed the French Touch prize from the 2024 Cannes Critics' Week jury. Variety's review of the film reads, 'More akin to European art films than to American indies, 'Palace' prioritizes mood over plot. Tsang allows her experienced actors plenty of breathing space to convey the melancholy of their existence in situations where dreams are more likely to be deferred than to come true, but are necessary nevertheless.'
'Blue Sun Palace' is produced by Sally Sujin Oh, Eli Raskin, and Tony Yang. Tsang's debut feature will have its Los Angeles premiere at The American Cinematheque on April 22, and will then open theatrical runs at both the Laemmle Glendale in L.A. and Metrograph in New York City on April 25.

Kevin Costner has fired back at a lawsuit from a 'Horizon 2' stunt performer who claims that she was forced to perform an unscripted rape scene in violation of union protocols. In a motion to throw out the lawsuit filed Tuesday, Costner said the allegations are 'patently false' and 'deeply disappointing' and were designed to damage his reputation. 'Equally as bad, having to read about and address allegations I know to be false involving the words 'rape' and 'assault' has been an absolute nightmare.' Devyn LaBella sued Costner in May for sexual harassment and for creating a hostile work environment. She alleged that Costner improvised a scene in which an actor straddled her and raked up her skirt in an aggressive manner. The intimacy coordinator on the film later documented lapses in protocols during the scene, including a lack of planning, communication and the lack of a closed set. In response, Costner stated that it was not a 'rape scene,' and that while rape was implied, there was no nudity or simulated sex. 'This was one artistic shot designed to imply what was going to happen off-screen, and purposely was not a 'simulated rape' as Devyn now falsely describes it,' he stated. Costner and his company are seeking to throw out the suit under California's anti-SLAPP law, which is designed to protect free speech on matters of public concern. Marty Singer, Costner's attorney, wrote in the motion that 'Horizon 2' — which has yet to be released — addresses 'the horrific struggles endured by women' in the American West in the post-Civil War era, 'including their extreme vulnerability to rape and other forms of violence,' and that therefore it qualifies for protection under the anti-SLAPP law. In an anti-SLAPP motion, the losing side has the right to appeal immediately, which will likely delay the case for a year or more regardless of the outcome at the trial court. The motion includes declaration from many crew members who maintain that the shot was not out of the ordinary. Roger Ivens, the other performer in the scene, stated that LaBella offered a 'false and sensationalist' description of the scene in her lawsuit, in which she characterized it as depicting a violent rape. 'It is not what happened,' Ivens stated. 'This was not in any way, shape, or form a simulated sex scene.' Wade Allen, the stunt coordinator who hired and supervised LaBella, also stated that the scene involved 'no intimacy, no nudity, no sexual conduct or sexual movement of any kind.' He also stated that LaBella gave him a thumbs up before and after the run-through, and seemed upbeat and enthusiastic about the experience. 'At no point that day did she evidence any distress or discomfort, or any concern about what she had been asked to do,' Allen stated. In response to the filing, LaBella's lawyer, James Vagnini, said that LaBella's professional demeanor does not undermine her allegations, and noted that her claims have been corroborated by the intimacy coordinator and other witnesses and text messages. 'This filing is continued evidence that one of Hollywood's most powerful men is trying to skirt accountability for reckless and harmful behavior,' Vagnini said. 'This baseless motion is nothing but a desperate delay tactic from a panicked legal team with no real defense. The only things damaging Kevin Costner's reputation are his own reckless, harmful behavior and the offensive narrative he's spreading to cover it up.' It also received an official mention in the WIP Documentaries in Progress section at Atlantidoc 2024. This is Flores' second feature documentary. He admits that he barely got any distribution for his debut doc, 'The Forgotten' ('Los Olvidados') in 2018. 'But I was inexperienced. I'm working to internationalize 'The Curve' before it's ready to be screened and I expect to get better results,' he said, adding that he hopes to work with streaming services, whether global, regional or local. According to Flores, 'The Curve' refers to a very specific area in Montevideo around the racetrack. 'For me, 'The Curve' is a metaphor for life. The machine is ruthless and discards us when we are no longer functional parts. We are all running this race,' he said. 'The grief over my father's suicide becomes an invisible engine driving this story. As the camera explores Jorge's life and legacy, it also reveals my internal struggle to find meaning amid the pain. Both stories intertwine in a shared quest: how to face the frustrations that throw us off course and find the strength to keep moving forward, even when everything seems lost,' he explained. 'The Curve' is produced by Raquel Ferreiro of Trapecista Prods., founded in Montevideo in 2018, which has produced documentary features and experimental videos. It produced 'The Forgotten,' which premiered in cinemas and is now available online at The documentary is co-produced by Spain's Zona Cielo Films and Insumisa Films. Jennifer Lopez Has Been Having the 'Time of Her Life' Since Her Divorce from Ben Affleck
THE RUNDOWN: Jennifer Lopez has stayed busy in the year since she filed for divorce from Ben Affleck. A source recently told People that she's been 'having the time of her life this summer' while on her international Up All Night Tour, which kicked off on July 8 in Spain and wrapped on August 12 in Italy. 'She loved connecting with fans all over the world,' the source added. 'The tour was amazing. It's been a great focus for her. She's been doing what she really enjoys.' On August 12, Lopez reflected on the tour. 'This was the most beautiful, happy, and free summer…and my only wish is that you feel as joyful as you made me feel every night,' she wrote on Instagram. Lopez also has a packed year ahead. Her upcoming musical film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, will hit theaters on October 10. Affleck and Matt Damon also serve as executive producers on the project. 'This is the movie she filmed last year in New York when she and Ben were going through a difficult time,' the source said. 'She's come a long way since. She's very happy and just grateful for her life.' In a January 2025 interview with Variety, Lopez spoke about how much she's always wanted to star in a musical. 'I was waiting my whole life to be able to do a real big MGM Hollywood musical, and I finally got to do it,' she said. She continued, 'I got into movies because of West Side Story. I thought I was going to do Broadway. I wanted to do musicals. I love musicals. My kids love musicals. My mother did. It was a dream fulfilled in having done the movie.' Lopez officially filed for divorce from Affleck in the Los Angeles Superior Court on Aug. 20, 2024, two years after their Georgia wedding ceremony.
