Amazon (AMZN) Stock Falls as AWS Loses Ground in AI Cloud Battle

Amazon (AMZN) shares slipped 1.14% in trading on Tuesday as the company continues to lag in a market focused on artificial intelligence. While the Nasdaq 100 has gained nearly 12% in 2025, Amazon shares are up almost 4%, placing the stock in the lower half of the index. Elevate Your Investing Strategy: Take advantage of TipRanks Premium at 50% off! Unlock powerful investing tools, advanced data, and expert analyst insights to help you invest with confidence. Part of the concern comes from leadership shifts in artificial intelligence. Arm Holdings (ARM) hired Rami Sinno, who was Amazon's director of AI chips and led the development of its Trainium and Inferentia processors at Annapurna Labs. The move represents a potential setback as Amazon works to expand its role in advanced computing. Market Performance Trails Peers Part of the ongoing concerns stems from the slowed growth in Amazon Web Services (AWS) compared to its rivals. In the second quarter of 2025, AWS reported 17% revenue growth. Microsoft Azure (MSFT) grew by 39% while Google Cloud (GOOG) gained 32%. According to analysts, Amazon holds about 30% of the global cloud share, while Microsoft has reached close to 20%. Projections now suggest Azure could pass AWS by 2026 if current trends hold. Moreover, Amazon has set a plan to spend about $100 billion in 2025 with a focus on cloud and AI capacity. However, investors have yet to see clear signs of payoff from these investments. Amazon has introduced projects such as DeepFleet for robotics optimization and Bedrock AgentCore for secure AI use. Still, these have not gained the same level of attention as products from Microsoft or Meta (META). Yet Wall Street remains positive on the company. More than 90% of analysts maintain buy ratings, citing Amazon's strong scale and long-term prospects. For many, the stock's weaker performance in 2025 is seen as a pause rather than a lasting change in its outlook. Is AMZN Stock a Buy? As stated above, Amazon boasts a strong bullish sentiment among Wall Street analysts, with 45 out of 46 rating it a Buy. The average AMZN stock price target stands at $264.38, implying a 15.95% upside from the current price.

How Platform Ecosystems Shape Architect Thinking—And Why It Matters

Shikher Goel, Salesforce Certified Application & System Architect, AWS Certified Solution Architect - Associate. Salesforce CTA Candidate. In my journey as a certified Salesforce application & system architect and AWS certified solutions architect-associate, I've come to realize that the mindset of an architect is deeply shaped by the ecosystem they operate in. Salesforce and AWS demand different instincts. Neither is better, but the difference matters. As enterprises move toward integrated, multi-cloud environments, we must better understand these mindset patterns—and evolve beyond them. The AWS Architect's Lens: Deep, Modular, Cost-Centric In the AWS world, the architect is a builder with nearly unlimited tools. The cloud is open, composable and highly modular. But with that freedom comes responsibility, especially around cost. Architects here are trained to think in terms of resource optimization, fault tolerance and service orchestration. AWS's pay-as-you-go model encourages careful planning, especially when choosing between managed and unmanaged services, even though cost transparency isn't always straightforward, especially at scale. This mindset leans toward technical depth, long-term scalability and robust system design. At the same time, it often involves longer delivery cycles before business value is realized. The Salesforce Architect's Lens: Fast Outcomes, Platform Alignment Salesforce architects operate within a governed, feature-rich platform built for speed and standardization. With its license-based pricing model, cost is abstracted early and rarely part of day-to-day design decisions. This lets architects focus on delivering business outcomes quickly using declarative tools, native integrations and a well-established CRM data model. Salesforce's mindset encourages cross-functional collaboration, with architects expected to speak both tech and business fluently. Because much of the heavy lifting (security, UI, workflow) is handled by the platform, architects can concentrate on customer experience, process design and go-live velocity. Building AI Agents In Salesforce And AWS A great example of how platform ecosystems shape architect thinking is how they approach AI agent development. In Salesforce, Agentforce provides a toolset that lets architects build intelligent agents rapidly using a low-code prompt and flow-based interface. With built-in connections to Salesforce Flows, Apex, Slack and Data Cloud—plus prompt templates and the Einstein Trust Layer—it's designed to help architects launch conversational agents quickly, without managing infrastructure. In contrast, AWS Bedrock Agents offer deep control and customization. Architects select from multiple foundation models (Anthropic, Cohere, Mistral, Meta, etc.), define action groups, connect knowledge bases and optionally invoke AWS Lambda functions. Bedrock supports multi-step reasoning, RAG, memory and orchestration, but setup demands cloud-native fluency. I've worked on both platforms, and the difference in architect mindset is clear. In Salesforce, you're focused on business enablement: speed to market, native integration and user adoption. In AWS, you're designing AI systems from the ground up, emphasizing customization, security and cost control. Both platforms now support bring-your-own-model (BYOM) options, but in Salesforce, authentication and hosting configuration are still maturing. I expect Salesforce to simplify this soon. AWS, in contrast, already supports custom models more seamlessly, but also assumes the architect will manage tokens, permissions and compute environment. What Certifications Reveal About Each Mindset How a platform evaluates its architects says a lot about what it values. The certified technical architect (CTA) is Salesforce's highest credential—not just for technical excellence, but for the ability to think holistically and communicate clearly. Candidates present to a live panel, explaining trade-offs in architecture, security, data and integration. You're tested on your ability to lead. The AWS solutions architect exam goes deep into technical design. It challenges you to make optimal decisions around cost, performance, resilience and scalability. The emphasis is on cloud-native depth, not just solution breadth. What Today's Organizations Actually Need Most companies today don't run only on Salesforce or AWS. They run on both, and more. That means architectural thinking must transcend platform constraints. What makes an architect truly valuable in this landscape is not their certification level or technology preference—it's their adaptability of thought: • Can they design for agility and cost? • Can they communicate trade-offs clearly to both devs and execs? • Do they know when to build for speed vs. when to optimize for scale? Rather than being tied to specific tools, these are hallmarks of solid architectural thinking. The Best Architects Bridge Gaps Different technology ecosystems shape different architectural instincts. Blending those instincts is critical when systems must span platforms, clouds and constraints. The architect of the future will be defined by their ability to translate business goals into scalable, secure and cost-effective systems across clouds and constraints. Certifications build the foundation. Experience sharpens the edge. But it's mindset—adaptable, systems-oriented and customer-focused—that truly distinguishes top architectural talent. Forbes Technology Council is an invitation-only community for world-class CIOs, CTOs and technology executives. Do I qualify?
