Report: Rece Davis spurns Fox offer, to stay with ESPN
ESPN is retaining longtime "College GameDay" host Rece Davis on a seven-year contract worth "tens of millions" of dollars, The Athletic reported Sunday.
Fox Sports reportedly had made a strong push to hire Davis to host its "Big Noon Kickoff" pregame show, the main competitor to "College GameDay" on college football Saturdays.
Davis, 59, worked as a sports anchor and reporter at a television station in Flint, Mich., from 1993-95 immediately prior to joining ESPN, where he had roles in a variety of coverage areas before becoming the founding host of "College GameDay" in 2005. He also hosts the college basketball version of the show.
The Athletic said he accepted "a slight hometown discount" to stay with ESPN, which will guarantee him lead college football hosting duties until 2032 -- the end of the network's College Football Playoff deal. Per the report, the Fox offer included leading the coverage of the men's 2026 World Cup and calling college basketball games.
At Fox, Rob Stone hosts "Big Noon Kickoff" alongside a panel that includes Charles Woodson, Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart and Urban Meyer.
Davis' colleagues at ESPN include Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Lee Corso and Pat McAfee.

FIFA stadium naming: Arlington wants recognition for World Cup
The FIFA World Cup games are still a year away, but there's a name game already underway between two North Texas cities with a lot on the line. If you want to get Arlington's mayor really riled up, just call AT&T Stadium "Dallas Stadium." Mayor Jim Ross isn't on board with plans by FIFA, the World Cup's governing body, to give a city 20 miles away from Arlington sole billing when the biggest sporting event on the planet comes to AT&T Stadium next year. "We are happy to share the name, but we believe that it should be called Arlington Dallas Stadium," said Ross. Cities like Arlington, which will host World Cup games in 2026, will not be allowed to refer to their stadium's corporate sponsors like AT&T. So FIFA has decided to call the site of nine games Dallas Stadium, which has rankled some Arlington residents and even some people who live in Dallas. "Even though I'm from Dallas, it is here in Arlington, so personally I think it should be named where we're sitting," said Dallas resident Sheri Nelson. "I feel like it should be the Arlington Stadium now because it's located in Arlington, not Dallas," said Arlington resident Ashley Martinez. Arlington residents paid to build this stadium, and their mayor says it would be a slap in the face to them if the city is ignored by putting only Dallas's name on it. "It's not a dig against Dallas," said Ross. "It's just essential pride of the city of Arlington and what we have accomplished here in our entertainment district ... It's also an economic impact and we want to optimize our ability to take advantage of that." No word from Dallas leaders yet on whether they will fight for the city's name on the stadium, but the Dallas Sports Commission has told Arlington leaders that it will address the issue with FIFA later this summer.

NBA insider drops convincing update on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade
One of the biggest questions circulating the upcoming NBA offseason is whether the Milwaukee Bucks will consider trading Giannis Antetokounmpo. While, typically the Bucks likely wouldn't have any interest in trading the face of their franchise, their chances to compete took a serious hit once All-Star point guard went down with a torn Achilles tendon during the playoffs. With Lillard likely set to miss all of next season, the Bucks may have to make other plans, whether it's toward contention or setting a new path that helps them bounce back in an even bigger way remains to be seen. Yet, their unique situation has led to a lot of Giannis trade rumors. Advertisement Could the Greek Freak even request a trade? That hasn't happened, yet. However, ESPN's NBA insider Brian Windhorst recently touched on an Antetokounmpo trade, essentially saying that the Bucks aren't having any discussions. In fact, Windhorst claims, 'there is no Antetokounmpo trade market' right now. 'Right now, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade market, there is no Giannis Antetokounmpo trade discussions. He has not asked for it. The Bucks are not looking to trade him.' ESPN's Brian Windhorst on Giannis Antetokounmpo trade Of course, these plans could change quickly. All it takes is one team making an offer too good to refuse, and the Bucks' ears could suddenly perk up. Plus, there's always the outside possibility that Antetokounmpo himself tries to force Milwaukee's hand by requesting a trade. Would the Bucks do right by their franchise's most valuable player and honor his trade request? If not, things could get ugly. Advertisement But for now, Antetokounmpo appears set for another season in Milwaukee, where he's already won one ring. Now he has to figure out how he can win another. NHL rumors: Insider sheds light on Sam Bennett's future with Florida Panthers ahead of NHL free agency
The Florida Panthers reached the Stanley Cup Final for the third consecutive season with the help of forward Sam Bennett. With Florida attempting to become the league's newest dynasty, there have been questions about whether or not Bennett will even hit NHL free agency. James Mirtle of The Athletic writes that no one he's spoken to around the League expects Bennett to be available this offseason, with a new deal likely to be worked out with Florida before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Advertisement Related: Panthers coach fires witty free-agency salvo after epic Sam Bennett shift in Game 3 of Stanley Cup Final Sam Bennett stats (2024-'25): 51 points (26 assists, 25 goals), 7 power-play goals, 4 game-winning goals, 10.4% shot rate, 46.2% faceoff rate, 145 hits, 45 blocks, 27 takeaways, 57 giveaways Bennett, who turns 29 on June 20, is rated second in ESPN's rankings of the top NHL free agents with Chris Johnston of The Athletic also placing him second in his NHL free agency rankings. Both forwards were expected to be highly sought after, especially by clubs seeking veterans with ample playoff experience. The 6-foot-1 center has been productive throughout the playoffs, heading into Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals with the fifth-most points (19) in hockey this postseason. Selected by the Calgary Flames with the fourth overall pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, Bennett has contributed 3 goals already in the Stanley Cup Finals. Related: Winners, Losers from Panthers' Game 2 Stanley Cup victory Sam Bennett contract (PuckPedia): $4.425 million cap hit in 2025 Advertisement Bennett's salary this season ($4.425 million AAV) ranks 87th among centers. With the NHL salary cap increasing next season to $95.5 million, per ESPN, Bennett is expected to receive a deal worth at least $8 million annually. As of now, 29 centers carry an AAV of $8-plus million for the 2025-'26 campaign. One thing Florida is likely aware of is the potential bidding war that Bennett's camp can use as leverage in contract negotiations. TSN's Pierre LeBrun recently suggested there could be multiple teams willing to offer Bennett $10-plus million annually if he reaches the open market. Panthers' defenseman Aaron Ekblad and winger Brad Marchand are also poised to become UFAs on July 1. Marchand has stated that he's open to re-signing with Florida, but the club will likely prioritize Eklbad and Bennett following the Stanley Cup Final. Related Headlines
