ESPN'S Rece Davis says Texas QB Arch Manning will be college football's 'Ultimate Villain'
ESPN'S Rece Davis says Texas QB Arch Manning will be college football's 'Ultimate Villain' It's hard to think of a historical comparison with the hype surrounding Arch Manning's first season as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns. Longhorns fans can't wait and the national media will fill hours of programming discussing the GQ QB. But that popularity comes with a price, according to ESPN's Rece Davis. The College GameDay host thinks outside of Texas, Manning will become college football's ultimate villain. 'Here's what I think that's going to happen with Arch, and it's unfortunate — because of the attention he's going to get, he's going to become a fan-favorite to those outside of Texas, and to others outside of Texas, he's going to be the ultimate villain, and I don't just mean Oklahoma people. It's like the analogy that I use if you start hyping up a restaurant or a movie or a TV show, when you keep saying how great it is and how exciting it is and you cannot miss this, it is the cynical human nature of many to start rooting against it. That's going to happen with Arch.' - ESPN's Rece Davis Manning is going to be the face of college football if he performs on the field like Texas fans think he will. The third generation QB will also get a lot of media attention just for being 'Arch Manning,' theoretically taking attention away from other programs and quarterbacks. 'Those who are not predisposed to like him, whether they are a Texas fan or they like the Mannings or they like 'ManningCast' or whatever, or they just feel like it's too much too soon, they're going to root against him. . . . Everything's going to be amplified." - ESPN's Rece Davis The Mannings family's broad popularity and Arch's decision to stay in with one school and stick to his commitment to the University of Texas might get a lot neutral fans on his side. His charisma and humor might win over even more. Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.

Report: Rece Davis spurns Fox offer, to stay with ESPN
ESPN is retaining longtime "College GameDay" host Rece Davis on a seven-year contract worth "tens of millions" of dollars, The Athletic reported Sunday. Fox Sports reportedly had made a strong push to hire Davis to host its "Big Noon Kickoff" pregame show, the main competitor to "College GameDay" on college football Saturdays. Davis, 59, worked as a sports anchor and reporter at a television station in Flint, Mich., from 1993-95 immediately prior to joining ESPN, where he had roles in a variety of coverage areas before becoming the founding host of "College GameDay" in 2005. He also hosts the college basketball version of the show. The Athletic said he accepted "a slight hometown discount" to stay with ESPN, which will guarantee him lead college football hosting duties until 2032 -- the end of the network's College Football Playoff deal. Per the report, the Fox offer included leading the coverage of the men's 2026 World Cup and calling college basketball games. At Fox, Rob Stone hosts "Big Noon Kickoff" alongside a panel that includes Charles Woodson, Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart and Urban Meyer. Davis' colleagues at ESPN include Desmond Howard, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Lee Corso and Pat McAfee. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

'College GameDay' headed to Tuscaloosa for biggest Alabama-Auburn basketball game yet For just the second time ever, ESPN's "College GameDay" is headed to Tuscaloosa -- for basketball. The GameDay crew, led by host and UA alum Rece Davis, will be at Coleman Coliseum for next Saturday's game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers. Both teams are ranked in the top five and enter the weekend as projected No. 1 seeds for the NCAA Tournament. Auburn is No. 1 in the polls while Alabama is No. 3. Tipoff for Alabama vs. Auburn on Feb. 15 is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT (ESPN). GameDay's first visit to Tuscaloosa for basketball came only last year on March 2 when Nate Oats' Crimson Tide faced the Tennessee Volunteers in a prime time tipoff at Coleman Coliseum. Tennessee prevailed, 81-74. GameDay also visited Tuscaloosa on Sept. 28 of last year when Alabama football hosted the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama won 41-34 in an instant classic. Next Saturday's Iron Bowl of Basketball showdown between the Tide and Tigers is already sold out. The cheapest resale ticket is currently listed at $301, per StubHub. Alabama (19-3 overall, 8-1 SEC) is in Fayetteville today to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. Auburn (21-1, 9-0) is at home to take on the No. 6 Florida Gators in another top 10 showdown (3 p.m. CT, ESPN2). HOW TO WATCH ALABAMA VS. ARKANSAS TODAY: Time, TV channel for Crimson Tide game

College GameDay heading to Durham for UNC/Duke matchup
Now that the college football season is over, ESPN's College GameDay is returning to the road on Saturday mornings to cover the game of the day. The crew already appeared in Auburn for the Tigers' battle against Tennessee, and they have announced their second location. And it's a familiar one. ESPN announced that the College GameDay crew will travel to Durham, North Carolina, on Saturday, Feb. 1, for the first game of the UNC-Duke rivalry. The two teams meet twice a year, and College GameDay usually attends those games. But is it the right decision? Saturday's slate is a loaded one for college basketball featuring a battle between two top 10 teams in Florida and Tennessee as well as John Calipari's return to Kentucky when Arkansas visits. Duke will be ranked No. 2 for this matchup and for North Carolina, well they will be unranked. Still, it's the best rivalry in college basketball and it draws huge ratings. This will be the 14th trip to Duke for College GameDay. The show is hosted by Rece Davis and features analysts Jay Bilas, Andraya Carter, Seth Greenberg, Jay Williams and Pete Thamel. Duke is looking to stay red hot and unbeaten in conference play while North Carolina needs to stack wins for the NCAA Tournament resume.
