Notre Dame alum helps power Washington Mystics past the Atlanta Dream The former Fighting Irish star scored 19 points in her WNBA debut
Notre Dame alum Sonia Citron has made her WNBA debut, and it was a sparkling one.
Citron had 19 points, two rebounds and two assists in her first game with the Washington Mystics. She shot 85.7 percent from the field, making six of seven field goals. She drained both three-pointers she attempted and was five-of-six from the free-throw line.
She played 24 minutes in the Mystics' 94-90 win over the Atlanta Dream.
We'd say that's a pretty successful debut.

Breaking down Urban Meyer's accomplishments Accomplishments: Three national championships, two additional undefeated seasons, seven conference championships, nine top-five finishes "Only two coaches have won a national championship at multiple schools, and they top this list. Meyer won two at Florida in 2006 and 2008 before stepping away due to health concerns. He returned at Ohio State a few years later and opened with an undefeated season in 2012, though the Buckeyes were banned from the postseason due to the Tattoogate scandal under Tressel, but then won it all in 2014. "Meyer also went undefeated at Utah in 2004 with Alex Smith at quarterback, as the Utes became the first program from outside a power conference to reach a BCS bowl. His 187-39 record is good for a winning percentage of 85%. It's one of the most impressive runs in history, behind only the guy who ended Florida's run (Nick Saban)." Former Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney could land at Florida Former star Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney may soon have a new home. Per Baseball America's Jacob Rudner, Florida is in the mix for the former Fighting Irish backstop, who hit .348 with 17 home runs and 53 RBIs as a sophomore with the Fighting Irish. He is one of the more intriguing players currently in the transfer portal. This past season, the Gators used Luke Heyman and Brody Donay behind the plate. An injury to Heyman near the end of the year forced Donay to become the full-time catcher the rest of the way, but his defense was an issue. Could the Gators shift him to first base or designated hitter? UF did bring in JUCO catcher AJ Malzone, but landing Tinney would be a real coup. It helps the cause that the Gators landed former ND pitcher Ricky Reeth, whose pitches were caught by Tinney in South Bend this past season. Losing Tinney was a tough blow for the Irish. He was the team's best player and a centerpiece of Shawn Stiffler's rebuild in South Bend.
