Raven Banner Picks Up Fantasia Title ‘Foreigner'
The film was written, edited, and directed by Safai. The film's official synopsis reads: Fantasia is set in the age of low-rise jeans and flip phones, where a Persian teen, Yasamin (Rose Dehgan), immigrates to a new country with her family. Trying desperately to fit in with her new clique, she dyes her hair blonde — and invites a sinister force into her life.

'Ava Maria Safai is a bold new voice in horror, who brings a fearless new perspective to the screen,' Raven Banner's Managing Partner, Michael Paszt, said in a statement. 'Not only has she announced herself as a talent to watch in Canada, but internationally as well. We're proud to be working with Ava and her team.'
Safai is a Canadian-Iranian multidisciplinary artist based in Vancouver. In a statement, she said: 'Media shapes how we see ourselves, and when you grow up never seeing anyone like you on screen, you start to shrink to fit the frame. I made Foreigner to help break that cycle and create space for people who've been erased, so they can finally see themselves at the center.'
The film stars Rose Dehgan and Chloë MacLeod and features Maryam Sadeghi, Ashkan Nejati, Talisa Mae Stewart, and Victoria Wardell. The film is produced by The Harlequin Theatre Society, Saffron Blonde Productions Ltd., and Naltobel Productions, with executive producer Nic Altobelli, producers Safai and Nicco Graham, and co-producer Lesha Jay Vescio.
The deal for Foreigner was negotiated between the film's executive producers, Nic Altobelli and Ava Maria Safai, and Raven Banner's General Manager, Michael Da Silva, and Managing Partner, Michael Paszt.
Foreigner was shot in Vancouver, BC, and features dialogue in both English and Farsi. You can check out the film's trailer above.

On August 13, 2010, moviegoers were introduced to director Edgar Wright's Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and cinema was never the same. Based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's acclaimed graphic novel series, this action-packed comedy film follows the titular musician as he tries to become a rock star while battling the seven evil exes of his new girlfriend, Ramona. Though the film bombed at the box office, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World received fantastic reviews, as well as several film awards and nominations. The movie has since achieved a massive cult following, which led to Netflix's 2023 animated series, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, with the original cast reprising their roles for the show. Edgar Wright's wacky direction Staying true to the film's source material, director Edgar Wright utilized a rich comic book/video game aesthetic to bring Scott Pilgrim's world to the big screen. Featuring animated sound effects, split-screen camera shots, giant monsters, and well-choreographed fight scenes, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World looks like a superhero comic book brought to life. Scott Pilgrim is one huge Easter egg hunt. The movie delivers many pop culture references and homages, particularly to the video games The Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog, that add to the film's distinctive style. It even squeezed in a great Seinfeld homage for good measure. This all merges multiple forms of media into one transcendent film straight out of every gamer and comic book nerd's wildest fantasy. This is a perfect fit for Scott's story, as it seems like the audience is seeing the world from his point of view, making for a hilarious, mind-blowing action film unlike any other. Scott Pilgrim is a surprisingly mature story Beneath its video game-inspired narrative and over-the-top fights, Scott Pilgrim is a heartfelt, relatable tale about two flawed people overcoming their toxic nature and growing as human beings as they fall in love. Scott is forced to confront his selfish, inconsiderate actions toward others as he juggles dating two women at once. Ramona goes through a similar arc as she confronts her dark past, which manifests as the evil exes seeking vengeance for her mistreatment of them. You wouldn't normally root for characters like Scott and Ramona. They don't seem like they should be together. However, the film humanizes them as they grow from their mistakes and work toward fixing themselves. They are truly deserving of each other in the end. As the film so explicitly states, the story is less about battling for love and more about fighting for self-respect. The razor-sharp humor Wright crafts all the scenes and events in his films like one long dance. This applies to Scott Pilgrim's clever brand of comedy, with one incredible joke after another. This rapid-fire comedy predominantly consists of Scott's awkward antics, Wallace's witty one-liners, and the evil exes. Scott Pilgrim offers many ridiculous and hilarious gags, including Aubrey Plaza's censored dialogue and Scott's realization about bread. The film also brings plenty of laughs thanks to its several oddball characters, from the Bollywood dancing guy dressed like a pirate to the Will Arnett-esque action star to the dimwitted vegan with psychic powers. With so many wacky, fantastical elements, what makes them even funnier is the way Scott Pilgrim normalizes them all with ridiculous logic. For example, Ramona has the superhuman ability to travel through subspace, but with a deadpan expression, she brushes off something that Canada just doesn't have. What's even wilder is that characters could fight until one of them bursts into a pile of change, and no one would bat an eye. It's a world that could only exist in this movie. An incredible all-star cast Scott Pilgrim features a cast packed with stars, many of whom were still establishing themselves as modern Hollywood's best actors. These include Michael Cera (Superbad), Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Star Wars: Ahsoka), Kieran Culkin (Succession), Anna Kendrick (Pitch Perfect), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Chris Evans (Captain America franchise), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), Mae Whitman (Avatar: The Last Airbender), and Jason Schwartzman (Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse). Each member of this stellar cast brings something special to the table in Scott Pilgrim, bringing such life and variety to the protagonist's comic book world. Though not all of these characters have much screen time in this film, the actors make the most of it to deliver scene-stealing performances that make each of their characters iconic (this includes Young Neil). Outstanding music Music is a huge part of Scott Pilgrim's story, and Wright's film went above and beyond to give audiences killer tracks. On top of some classic tunes from Frank Black, The Bluetones, and The Rolling Stones, Scott Pilgrim's soundtrack featured terrific songs written for the film by Beck and Brian LeBarton. Scott's band, Sex Bob-Omb, delivered some head-banging songs that sound like they're from a real garage rock group. Their first jam session hooks the audience into the movie almost immediately. The cast even performed the music themselves, making the band even more spectacular. In addition, Brie Larson did a fabulous, hypnotic cover of Metric's Black Sheep, making for an unforgettable musical performance. While there have been several comic book movies over the past couple of decades, there is hardly a motion picture quite like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. It is probably the only movie that truly looks like a comic book and video game, invoking conventions from different media in an extravagant celebration of pop culture. With such a talented cast and director bringing such vibrant energy and sound to this film, there will hardly ever be a movie like Scott Pilgrim.

Are cheap TVs any good? I bought a budget TV from Amazon that's currently on sale for under $300 — the value is unbeatable
This "unbeatable" budget TV is on sale for $280 right now. I was recently in the market for a new smart TV and given that I've never actually been in charge of selecting a device on my own, I was pretty stumped. All I knew was that I didn't want to spend a fortune and that the TV needed to have the ability to stream apps like Disney+, Prime Video, Netflix and other favourites. Other than that, I wanted something that was fairly light and with decent visuals After doing some research, I settled on a relatively inexpensive TCL Smart TV from Amazon Canada that seemed to fit all my criteria. However, given that it's regularly only $350 — and currently on sale for $280 — I was skeptical about whether it would actually be decent quality. I've been using it for a few months now, and I'm happy to report that I shouldn't have been skeptical — this cost-effective TV is fantastic and has seriously improved our leisure time. It also has Dolby Atmos which provides an immersive, cinematic audio experience. For streaming, it has Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Spotify and dozens of other popular services as well as the ability to search and download less popular apps. It has three HDMI inputs for gaming and other needs, and has Alexa technology that let's you hold down the voice button and ask her to find and launch content. In terms of appearance, the TV has an edge-to-edge glass design that would look perfect in any setting. What I like about it The interface: As mentioned, I'm not very tech-savvy, so I anticipated that I'd struggle — but I truly had no issues. It's extremely user-friendly to find what your looking for and to start watching right way. It also has voice control technology, so you can ask it to launch programs for you when you don't feel like typing. The interface is also customizable and you can change the audio-visual options tor the different streaming apps. Streaming options: The TV comes loaded with all of the most popular apps like Netflix, YouTube and more — and you can search and download more niche apps. For instance, my partner downloaded the Kanopy app so he can watch library-sourced documentaries and Armenian animations. As well, we found it easy to stream from our phones and laptops and cast it to the TV. The visuals: One of the first things we did was watch The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and the difference in visual quality between the TCL and our old TV was immediately noticeable. A few quotes from my fiancé: "Shit, that's crisp!" "I'm getting lost in Elijah Woods's blue eyes." "There's even enough brightness settings to make The Rings of Power watchable." The set up: From taking the TV out of the box to getting it mounted on our wall and watching Netflix, the entire process took maybe 10 minutes. It likely would have taken us less than that but it took us a a bit to figure out how to attach it to our wall mount (entirely our own fault, not a negative to the TV at all). The weight: I was genuinely shocked at how light this TV is! Our old, non-smart TV weighs about 30 pounds. The TCL weighs under five pounds, which made it extremely easy to carry up the stairs to our apartment and subsequently hang on the mount we already owned. When doing the measurements, I made the error of measuring the width of the wall we would mount it on. From that I surmised I needed a 43" TV, but the way TVs are measured is across the diagonal. Because of my error, the television is a little too small for the area we have it in, but it's not the worst problem to have! What others are saying The TV has a 4.0-star rating on Amazon Canada and has been bought more than 300 times in the last month. "The best budget TV I've ever owned," says one customer. "I would recommend it all day." Another notes that they're "impressed with what this TV offers," particularly "at such an affordable price point." Others write that "the colours are rich and vibrant," it's "very easy to set up" and offers "unbeatable value." However, a few people say "the sound isn't the best" — I would agree that it's not exactly cinematic or comparable to what you'd get out of a sound bar, but the sound quality is not a concern at all for me. The verdict I am extremely pleased with the TCL 43-Inch Class S4 4K LED Smart TV, and would 100 per cent recommend buying it. In fact, I'm likely going to repurchase this TV in a bigger size when it's on sale. I've been using it for a few months now and I'm impressed with the quality of this device, its weight and how easy it is to set up — and at just $280, it doesn't break the bank, which is always a bonus. If you're on the hunt for an affordable TV that gives excellent performance, I'd definitely check it out.
