No Big Bash games on Christmas Day or Australia Day
Only a washout of the final will put cricket on January 26.
A December 14 start for the tournament has been locked in with a Boxing Day showdown between the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars and a 13th consecutive News Year's Eve clash in Adelaide among the fixture highlights.
Pakistan star Babar Azam looms as the headline international act this season, with several of his teammates, including speed demon Shaheen Shaf Afridi, joining the playing ranks.
An Ashes Test series will rob the Big Bash of the best Australian and English talent until the final two or three weeks of the tournament, which will finish on January 25, with January 26 slotted as a reserve day for the final.
Cricket Australia hasn't played on January 26 since 2023 and has refrained from any mention of Australia Day amid concerns from some players, including Indigenous women's star Ash Gardner, about the implications of playing on a day that has different significance among Australians.
Christmas Day was also ruled out, meaning the NBL remains the only Australian sport willing to take the plunge on that day.
'With uninterrupted action every night of the regular season and all the marquee games our fans love, this schedule ensures the BBL remains the heartbeat of summer,' Big Bash boss Alastair Dobson said.
'The fan-favourite fixtures, combined with the family-friendly entertainment that makes the Big Bash, has BBL|15 well positioned to build on the success of last summer.
'We were blown away by the quality of overseas talent signed via the BBL draft and can't wait to see these global superstars in action alongside some of Australia's biggest names.'
Despite making himself eligible, English pace ace Jofra Archer was overlooked in the BBL draft, with clubs fearful he would be unavailable due to the Ashes.
Archer returned to the England squad for the series against India but missed selection in the second Test.

AFL superstar Isaac Heeney drops Jamarra Ugle-Hagan trade ‘hint' unprompted
Sydney Swans superstar Isaac Heeney has revealed his wish for a bombshell trade later this year, dropping the name of rival key forward Jamarra Ugle-Hagan unprompted. The Swans have struggled for consistency among their leading talls since Lance Franklin's retirement. Heeney has been a constant as an undersized target while Joel Amartey and Logan McDonald have struggled with injuries in 2025 after breaking out across the past two years. Ugle-Hagan has previously been linked to Sydney amid his on-off situation with the Western Bulldogs this year. But his name is back in the spotlight thanks to a potential future teammate. 'Isaac Heeney's dropped a bit of a hint on Sydney's recruiting plans,' Luke Hodge said on Channel 7's The Agenda Setters on Tuesday night. The All Australian was discussing life in the NSW capital in a car ride with interviewer Felix Von Hofe when the conversation turned. 'People come up and they want to have a photo it's generally pretty quick, whereas I feel like Melbourne, the AFL states, can sometimes be a bit more pushy. I don't know how, say, the Daicos boys do it and live a normal life,' Heeney said. Von Hofe said: 'To any free agent forwards out there, key forwards, this is a great place to live.' Heeney laughed and replied: 'Any big boys — Jamarra, you want to come up?' The Agenda Setters co-host Dale Thomas said it was 'interesting that that was the name front of mind, tip of tongue'. 'So Jamarra maybe to Sydney?' he added. Ugle-Hagan is under contract for 2026 and would need a trade to secure a fresh start away from Whitten Oval. The 23-year-old has not played a game at any level this season after dealing with mental health and personal issues. He returned to training in June before spending another week away this month because of a family matter. Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge continues to temper expectations that Ugle-Hagan, who kicked 78 goals in 45 games across 2023-24, could earn a call-up this year. 'I can't really give you much other than he's chipping away, and he's training when he can,' Beveridge said last week. 'He's had some bereavement stuff back with the mob in Framlingham and he's working his way back through his fitness levels.'

Kevin Walters will coach the Kangaroos in three matches against England after replacing Mal Meninga
Former Brisbane Broncos coach Kevin Walters called it an ' honour and a privilege' after being handed the reins of the Australian team for this year's three-test tour of England. Walters replaced Mal Meninga, who quit the post to take charge of the NRL's new Perth franchise and Australian Rugby League Commission chairman Peter V'Landys said he was 'well placed' to deliver a series win. Having played 11 Test matches for the Kangaroos and been part of the 1990 and 1994 Kangaroo Tours, Walters has three matches to press his claims to take on the gig full-time. 'Playing on a Kangaroos Tour was always a pinnacle as a player, so to be able to lead the best of the best in this environment is very humbling and obviously very exciting,' he said. 'This series will be an important step for the growth of international Rugby League and for the Kangaroos. I can't wait to get started.' He was chosen ahead of Storm and Queensland legend Cameron Smith, who could yet assume full-time duties in 2026 should the ARLC decide on a change after the Ashes. ARLC Chairman Peter V'landys AM said he was pleased to confirm two highly-respected and talented people to guide the Australian national teams. 'The Commission is very pleased to confirm Kevin Walters as the Kangaroos coach for this historic series,' Mr V'landys said. 'As Kangaroo number 612, Walters is very well placed to lead the national team on a historic tour to the UK. 'Kevin has played for the Kangaroos, had a successful coaching career with Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Maroons, and will bring that expertise into the national team for the Ashes. 'Kevin has toured with the Kangaroos as a player, was a leader as a player and as a coach. His coaching pedigree is a natural fit for the national team. The ARLC also extended the tenure of current Jillaroos coach Jess Skinner through the 2026 World Cup. 'Jess Skinner had significant success in her first outing as Jillaroos coach in Las Vegas earlier this year,' V'Landys said. . 'Jess has progressed through the coaching pathways and is a fantastic choice to lead Australia's most prolific national women's team until the end of the World Cup.' The Ashes Tour will include Test matches at Wembley Stadium (October 25), Everton Stadium (November 1) and Headingley (November 8), while the Jillaroos will compete for the Pacific Championships in October this year.
