Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins reflected on his team's strong finish to the season, highlighting the impressive batting display in the final game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), on Sunday, in New Delhi. He acknowledged that with the team's high-calibre players, they should have aimed for the finals, expressing disappointment in not achieving that goal. He emphasised the need to maximise scoring in favourable conditions, like aiming for 250-260, and the importance of adapting to different game situations, such as reaching 170 in tougher conditions, which they failed to do.
"Amazing finish. The last few games of the season, lots of things clicked, and it was scary to watch that kind of batting. With the calibre of the players we have, we can't play any worse than what we did earlier. With the players we have, we should be making the finals. This year we didn't. We get wickets like here, we got to max out and get 250-260 and other ones where we need to graft and get to 170, which we didn't," Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation.
KKR endured a forgettable outing on Sunday as they failed to chase down a mammoth target of 279 set by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, crashing to a 110-run defeat.
The loss ended KKR's season on a disappointing note, placing them eighth in the table with five wins, seven losses, and one no result. SRH, meanwhile, climbed to sixth with six wins, seven losses, and one no result.
Sunrisers Hyderabad's bowling attack was led by a trio of effective performers -- Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, and Harsh Dubey -- all of whom picked up three wickets each to dismantle KKR's batting line-up.

Will develop cricket grounds in all districts: ACA president Sivanath
The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) is working with the State government to develop cricket grounds in all the districts, said ACA president and Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath. Participating in the ACA's 72nd Annual General Body Meeting in Vijayawada on June 8, Sunday, Mr. Sivanath said at present, the ACA is developing cricket grounds in Nellore and Kurnool on its own land. In addition to this, the ACA is focusing on bringing talented players into the limelight, he added. The Andhra Premier League is being organised to give a platform to the talented cricketers identified from across the State. 'We will ensure that only the best-performing players get to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL),' the MP said. This was the first annual meeting since Mr. Kesineni Sivanath assumed charge as ACA President. He expressed happiness over the successful conduct of the annual meeting. He emphasised that the association would not only focus on identifying talent but would also provide all facilities to aspiring players to encourage them. Listing the achievements, Mr. Sivanath said the ACA, apex body, elected eight months ago, has since striven hard to develop cricket in the State. 'The ACA-VDCA International stadium was modernised in just 45 days. Out of four IPL matches allotted to the venue, two matches were successfully held. Additionally, the stadium is set to host five matches of the Women's World Cup,' he said. The MP added that there is a need to better the infrastructure for hosting cricket matches. The Visakhapatnam stadium will be further modernised so more international matches can be held, he said. ACA apex body members, District Cricket Association representatives, and international players participated in the meeting.

On June 4, along with the ceremony to felicitate RCB on clinching their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title, a celebration was also held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a large number of fans thronged, leading to stampede, in which 11 people died and 56 were injured. "Actually at 3:50 pm, deaths were reported at the hospital. I got to know only at 5:45 pm. Until then, I did not know about the stampede and deaths," news agency PTI quoted Siddaramaiah as saying. He was speaking to reporters during a visit to Mysuru. The chief minister also clarified that the ceremony at the Vidhana Soudha was by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and that he attended the programme only as an invitee. "The KSCA secretary and treasurer met and invited me. It was not organised by us. They had, and I was invited. They told me that the governor would also come. So, I had gone. This in response to the DPAR seeking the DCP's opinion on holding the felicitation event on the grand stairs of the Vidhana Soudha to honour the RCB players. "RCB has a fan following across the country. Organising the event in a hurry on the grand stairs of Vidhana Soudha will lead to lakhs of cricket fans arriving there. This will lead to problems in 'bandobast' (arrangement) since there is a shortage of officers/personnel," the DCP's letter read. The officer further said if the event is organised, passes for visitors to Vidhana Soudha should be completely stopped. Also, as there were chances of the secretariat staff getting their family members for the event, he suggested an order aimed at ensuring this doesn't happen. The officer also sought a holiday in the afternoon for secretariat staff to ensure that they too don't come there. The DCP also called for installation of more CCTV cameras in the vicinity of Vidhana Soudha - which is a vital installation - and nearby places in view of the large gatherings expected.

Former England cricketer Alec Stewart hailed young Indian batter Sai Sudharsan, saying that while with legend Virat Kohli gone from long format, the shoes will be big to fill up, his quick learning ability and array of shots will serve him well for India in Test cricket. Sudharsan, who has already made three ODI appearances with 127 runs and two fifties and a T20I appearance for India, will be looking forward to making his Test debut for India during the five-Test England tour starting from June 20, which will kickstart not only India's ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, but also a new era under captaincy of Shubman Gill following retirements of legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Sudharsan has played 29 first-class games so far, with 1,957 runs in 49 innings at an average of 39.93 with seven centuries and five fifties. His best individual score is 213. While these numbers are not the best on domestic scene, his talent and potential was on full display during the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), where he walked away with the Orange Cap for most runs and 'Emerging Player of the Season' award, scoring a massive 759 runs in 15 matches at an average of 54.21, strike rate of above 156, a century and six fifties. His ability to shift gears and bat according to situation was evident in Gujarat Titans' run till the eliminator against Mumbai Indians (MI), where he played a fighting knock during a tightly-contested match. However, when Surrey first picked Sudharsan in 2023, he had played less than 10 first-class games and was yet to make his international debut. However, he made up for his lack of experience with detailed and brilliant preparation. Stewart, who was once England's most capped Test player with 8.463 runs and 15 centuries in 133 Tests, was left impressed with Sai's commitment to the game. Before his first game for Surrey against Northamptonshire back in September 2023, Sudharsan played for the team's second XI at Guildford, to acquaint himself with English conditions and Dukes ball better. Stewart recalled that Sudharsan came in as an unknown, with GT Director of Cricket and ex-England player Vikram Solanki playing a big role in recommending him. "Sai came as an unknown, and his experience of the English game was very limited. Vikram Solanki was massive in recommending him to me, and I have so much respect for Vikram. From his first training session, you could see that he was a special talent, and he has not looked back. He loves to bat - whether in the nets or the middle - and just fitted into our set-up perfectly," said Stewart as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. Stewart also feels that Sudharsan's soft hands and range os strokes will help him thrive in English conditions, noting that his ability to play the ball late is extremely important in English conditions. "If you go too hard and get too far out in front of yourself, when the ball seams, you are not in control, then your bat can get outside of your eyeline, whereas he plays it under his eyeline, plays it under his eyes, and plays it late. And even if he does nick it a little bit, like Kane Williamson, for example - you can nick it, but it still falls short of slip and that again is a real attribute of Sai's," he said. "The pitches are quicker here, certainly at The Oval, and to succeed, you have to be able to play off the back foot. You have got to be selective to pull, hook, cut or let go. He gets out of the line of the short ball well but can also play the uppercut over the slips. He has got a full array of shots, and he gets them in the right order," he added. Dukes ball, which swings way more than Kookaburra balls used in Australia and SG balls used in India, has been put to good use by Sudharsan, who took some of them back home after his county stint, as revealed by Sudharsan. "I did not charge him for them and just let him have them. But, no... he had that forward-thinking mindset and trained with those balls, so that when he comes back to us, or hopefully is picked for India on tour, he will have had nice practice against the Dukes cricket ball as well," said the former England wicketkeeper-batter. "Some of those will probably be worn out by now because I gave them to him last year, but he is a quick learner and he practises with a purpose. Yes, he likes volume, but he also likes to improve," he added. Watching videos of Virat Kohli shown to him by his mother, Sudharsan is a front-runner to be a part of India's top-order after the icon's retirement from whites. Stewart advised Sudharsan that he should not think about being the 'next Virat' since he is irreplacable, but think of being the "best version of Sai Sudharsan". "Then India has got yet another high-quality cricketer," he concluded. The five-test tour of England, starting June 20 at Leeds and lasting until August 2025, is set to be a heavy one for fans and players alike. With senior stars Rohit and Virat having retired from the longest format of the game, the onus lies on the Shubman Gill-led new-look Indian side to prove themselves away from home in tough English conditions and ensure that Indian cricket is safe. The series will be held from June to August 2025, with matches scheduled at Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord's and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
