Jurassic Park star Sam Neill reveals heartbreaking loss as he shares a bittersweet tribute while in mourning
The Jurassic Park star, 77, revealed his 'beloved duck', named Magda, had died in her sleep at his vineyard Two Paddocks in New Zealand.
He shared a video of the waterfowl to his Instagram, revealing she passed away while he was out of the country.
'SAD DAY. Very upset to hear that in my absence, dear old Magda, my beloved duck, passed away this week,' he wrote.
'Bruce [a member of the vineyard's team] found her in the long grass—she had died peacefully in her sleep. This was my last time with her a few weeks back.'

In the clip Sam posted, the actor could be seen smiling as he cradled the black and white duck and spoke about her recent ducklings.
'She was a miracle old duck—very late in life she finally hatched some eggs and raised two hell-raiser ducklings,' Sam continued in the caption.
'Today, they stand by the dam saying goodbye to their mother, as KEVIN THE KAKA [another duck] flies past, as a salute to the old girl! Farewell Magda, my little friend.'
It comes after Sam went into remission following a 'brutal' battle with cancer.
He revealed on an episode of the ABC series The Assembly last year he was undergoing chemotherapy after being diagnosed with stage-three blood cancer.
'I'm on a different one now, so at least I don't look like somebody's bald thumb,' he joked at the time.
'That's what I looked like for quite a while—it was embarrassing, and I lost my beard and everything, and my dignity went with it.'
Sam said he found out he had cancer in 2022 during his first trip back to New Zealand after lockdowns made returning home to see his family virtually impossible.
He had been away from his loved ones for two years and had only been back in his home country for an hour when a doctor called and told him the awful news.
Sam and his son Tim recounted the harrowing time with Australian Story last year.
'When he hung the phone up and we sat down, and we had a little bit of a cry together. It was supposed to be a happy day. He didn't get to stay,' Tim said.
Sam added: 'I was in really a fight for my life. And everything was a new world and a rather alarming world.'
The actor had a brief upswing in health following the chemotherapy, but the cancer returned with a vengeance.
Thankfully, Sam was eventually put on an experimental cancer drug which began to work after.
He has been in remission for two years now, but admitted he is 'prepared' for the drug to eventually stop working.
'I know I've got it, but I'm not really interested in it. It's out of my control. If you can't control it, don't get into it,' he said of the disease.
Sam now has infusions every two weeks and will do so for the rest of his life or until the drug stops working.
The sessions are gruelling, 'very grim and depressing', he said.

'You'll want to clink glasses with friends as the sun sets, toasting to a summer of joy. 'Barefoot or in sandals, dressed up or dressed down, this rosé may become your favorite accessory for alfresco lunches and dinners at dusk.' Meghan described her new bottles as 'goodness in a glass' In the release, As Ever listed some of the positive feedback customers had given the company over its first rosé, which included comments like, '10 out of 10,' 'perfect,' and 'elevated flavor'. 'This affirmed all of the love, time and effort our team, and our founder, poured into curating this blend to evoke the sun drenched spirit of Napa Valley, and the breathtaking tenor of the California Coast,' As Ever added. 'Thank you for filling our cup. Now it's time for us to fill your glass! We are pleased to share that our 2024 Napa Valley Rosé will be available for purchase next week.' The brand also posted to Instagram with a series of images showing the new wine resting in beach sand. It was uploaded alongside a caption that read: 'Oh, how we love seeing the world through rose colored glasses. Rosé colored glasses? Perhaps even better. 'Our new vintage of As Ever's beloved rosé is available next week. The 2023 Napa Valley Rosé is described on the bottle as a 'delicately balanced rosé with soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish' 'Stay tuned for more details and timing.' As Ever's first wine went on sale on July 1 and sold out within the hour. Customers were able to purchase three bottles for $90, six bottles for $159, and 12 bottles for $300. Last month, Daily Mail exclusively revealed that the alcoholic beverage is made by Fairwinds Estate, a California winery that creates bespoke wines for celebrities. The 2023 Napa Valley Rosé is described on the bottle as a 'delicately balanced rosé with soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish.' It has a 14.5 percent alcohol by volume for the 750ML bottle. The Daily Mail FEMAIL team tried the rosé and while the wine was smooth, we couldn't easily detect the notes of stone fruit. In fact, it tasted quite bland, and almost water-y. In addition, the rosé had some acidic notes, leaving a somewhat uncomfortable sensation at the back of our throats after swallowing. In the end, the verdict was the wine lacked flavor and tasted affordable and ordinary. It wasn't terrible - but it certainly wasn't great. We felt the rosé just didn't taste like you bought it at a fancy vineyard, where it's supposed to be made, but rather, like a wine you would be served at a work happy hour. The FEMAIL team also reviewed her initial set of products, and found that Meghan's raspberry spread was too thin, too sweet, and very runny. Her hibiscus tea was extremely bitter with heavy notes of floral, with one taste tester comparing it to 'drinking lip balm.' 'It tasted like dirty dishwater,' another FEMAIL writer shared. Some of us couldn't even bear to swallow it, as one person even spat it back into the cup. As for her honey, we didn't enjoy the 'waxy' taste of the honeycomb or the super strong wildflower aftertaste.

Kelly Osbourne thanks fans for ‘support' following death of father Ozzy
Kelly Osbourne has thanked fans for their 'support' during the 'hardest moment' of her life following the death of her father, the Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne. The rock legend was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019 and died at the age of 76 on July 22, surrounded by his family. Since his death, tributes have been pouring in from fans and friends around the world with thousands visiting the Black Sabbath Bench in the musician's home city of Birmingham to lay bouquets, wreaths, posters, balloons, candles and cards. The Osbourne family visited the bench in Broad Street last Wednesday to lay their own flowers during a cortege procession. Kelly, 40, who starred in the 2000s reality series The Osbournes, shared a post on her Instagram story on Monday thanking fans for their support. She said: 'I've sat down to write this a hundred times and still don't know if the words will ever feel like enough… but from the bottom of my heart, thank you. 'The love, support, and beautiful messages I've received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life. Every kind word, every shared memory, every bit of compassion has meant more than I can ever explain. 'Grief is a strange thing — it sneaks up on you in waves — I will not be ok for a while — but knowing my family are not alone in our pain makes a difference. 'I'm holding on tight to the love, the light, and the legacy left you for being there. I love you all so much. – Kelly #BirminghamForever #OzzyForever.' On Monday, Birmingham City Council began gathering up the tributes so they can be stored before being handed over to the Osbourne family. A handful of fans watched from behind barriers, took photographs and hugged each other as officials in hi-vis jackets collected all the flowers and tributes which had been laid in front of the bench and on the railings behind it. The council said the mementos would be gathered and preserved 'respectfully' in agreement with the rock star's relatives and then stored 'with the utmost care at a secure location, ensuring they are protected and treated with dignity'. The council said: 'In due course, they will be passed on to the Osbourne family, so they may keep them as a lasting reminder of the public's affection and support.' In a statement released through the city council, the Osbourne family said: 'We are deeply moved by the heartfelt tributes that have been placed at the Black Sabbath Bridge and at the Black Sabbath mural on Navigation Street in recent days. 'These expressions of remembrance reflect the profound impact that Ozzy had on the city and its people, as well as fans from around the world – BIRMINGHAM FOREVER!'
