Ukraine fires new ‘Flamingo' missile that can strike Moscow for the first time after it was ‘inspired by British bomb'
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) UKRAINE has fired a groundbreaking new long-range missile dubbed "Flamingo" which will let Kyiv to strike Moscow for the first time. The breakthrough weapon can hit targets sitting more than 3,000km away with a menacing 1,000kg warhead - and its design takes inspiration from a British bomb. The cruise missile, which is reportedly already in serial production, fires from a twin-axle ramp before propelling itself with a turbofan. The "Flamingo" has a six-metre wingspan and reaches speeds of up to 900km/h before decimating its targets. And its maximum flight time is a whopping four hours. Engineers designed the bomb to feature three main priorities: range, warhead mass and rapid deployment. Its developer, Fire Point, said the systems are being manufactured at a highly protected facility in the Carpathians, in the west of Ukraine. The breath-taking design also features a dorsal air intake for a jet engine and an X-tail. To make sure the missile hits its target, it is also equipped with resistance to electronic warfare. The "Flamingo" is reportedly closely modelled on the FP-5 missile design - an unmanned cruise missile which can hit targets at subsonic speeds. The FP-5 is made by British weapons firm Milanion, a UAE-headquartered defence contractor which has supplied Ukraine in the past. Scheming Putin WON'T draw a line under Ukraine - here's why he won't give up the Donbas The new Ukrainian missile will dramatically boost the county's long-range strike capabilities to face down Putin's bloodthirsty regime. And it would be a gamechanger in defending against the invasion which started over three years ago. The "Flamingo" missile would also complement Ukraine's cutting edge aerial arsenal - which consists of long-range drones and other extended-range missiles. It would also be able to deliver a more powerful blow against any fortified or high-value targets such as oil refineries or air bases. Ukraine has slowly but surely built up its missile program over the last few years to help defend against Putin's invasion. In April 2022, near the outbreak of the war, the "Neptune" anti-ship missile was fired to sink the Russian Moskva cruiser. 8 Extraordinary footage showed the incredible missile in action Credit: East2West 8 The missile could hit strategically key Russian sites Credit: East2West 8 It comes as Trump met Zelensky and European allies on Monday Credit: Alamy Live News It comes as Putin continues to launch vicious assaults on Ukraine, while European allies work with Donald Trump to put together security guarantees for the war-torn country. The Don met with the likes of Sir Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, Giorgia Meloni and other European leaders at the White House on Monday. The US President phoned Vladimir Putin during the summit to push him to meet with Zelensky face-to-face. It remains unclear where the two will meet, but the bilateral summit is set to be followed by a trilateral one involving Trump. Switzerland could host the summit between the Russian and Ukrainian leaders, in the city of Geneva - and the country promised they would not arrest wanted war criminal Putin if he came for peace talks. The Zelensky-Putin meeting could take place "within two weeks", German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who was also at Monday's talks, said after the summit. Trump has also ruled out the prospect of US troops on the ground as a security guarantee for Ukraine. But the White House did not rule out the prospect of supportive American support by sea or air. The US president also admitted Putin could have no interest in securing a deal - but warned that he would face a "rough situation" if he doesn't come to the table. European leaders floated the idea of Nato Article 5-like guarantees for Ukraine, but it is unclear what they would look like as part of any peace deal. Article 5 of Nato states that an attack on one member is considered an attack on all, obliging allies to come to each other's defence. 8 Donald Trump pictured alongside European allies in the White House on August 18 Credit: Getty

Alaska man handed 'personal gift' from Putin after complaint over motorbike
With the US and Russia due to sit down again in an attempt to try and find a solution for the Ukranian War, a motorcycle has taken the centre stage of international relations Russian president Vladimir Putin has gifted an American man a Russian motorcycle after the Alaskan had complained to reporters that sanctions were making it difficult for him to get parts for his own model. An employee of the Russian embassy in the United States handed local man Mark Warren the keys to a new Ural motorcycle in the parking lot of the Anchorage Hotel. The Russian delegation were staying there ahead of the Russia-United States summit. The retired fire inspector said he is well aware that some people are disgusted he took an expensive gift from the Russian leader whose employee handed it over and told Mr Warren the bike was: 'a personal gift from the President of the Russian Federation.' The new khaki green Ural bike is valued at about $22,000 (£16,310) but its recipient was undeterred by the scrutiny of others and willingly accepted it despite the fact the Russian government is under U.S. Sanctions. Putin is also wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes in Ukraine and has an open warrant for his arrest. Mr Warren said: "I p***ed off all sorts of people. I took it. I could have not taken it, and probably p***ed off just as many people as doing that. I don't care.' The motorcyclist said he understood that people took a dim view of the Russian leader but told Anchorage Daily News that the goodwill gesture from Putin wasn't getting the Russian Federation anything in return from him directly. He confirmed: 'They're getting nothing from me. Nothing.' The Russian state media described the gift as a gesture of goodwill to the people of the United States. Mr Warren stated that he doesn't see himself as functioning as propaganda for the Russian government. The Alaskan was gifted the new motorcycle after a chance encounter with Russian reporters on the streets of his state's capital. Ahead of the summit, a pair of journalists saw him riding the Ural brand motorcycle he bought from his neighbour a few years ago to downtown Anchorage to run some errands. The two men who said they were from Russia's state television Channel 1 flagged him down, waving him to the side of the street, informed Mr Warren. He explained: 'They said, 'We need to talk to you.' I went over there, and there were two journalists, and they said, 'Do you realize this is a Russian motorcycle?' They were very nice, and then we got to talking about it.' The unlikely meeting saw the American become the star of a news segment about the effect of economic sanctions as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Mr Warren told Russian media that repairs to his bike had gotten expensive as affordable parts had become harder to find. The clip went viral in Russia and the media star soon received several phone calls, despite him not giving the journalists his phone number. He was told that the story had even reached President Vladimir Putin, who wanted to give him a new Ural motorcycle. The conversation put the bike directly into the geopolitical conflict at the heart of the summit. On its website, the company Ural which condemned Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine said 'production ground to a halt due to [an] inability to import components and export bikes out of Russia caused by international sanctions laid on the country.' The company was founded in what was then Soviet Russia and is now headquartered in Washington state. Ural pulled all its production out of Russia after the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, because sanctions prevented them from exporting bikes. At first, the retired man told his wife he thought the promise of a delivery of the new bike could be part of an elaborate scam but sure enough a sheet covering a motorcycle shaped object was ready to be unveiled in the Lakefront Hotel in Spenard's carpark by Russian officials. Mr Warren claimed it was a "good bike" and said he will likely sell his older one so he can ride his new present. When Russian reporters asked the recipient of Putin's gift about the summit between U.S. and Russian leaders, Mr Warren responded that he had been optimistic. 'I just said, 'I just hope something good comes out of it,'' he added.

Is THIS Putin's secret teen lover? Despot had sordid trysts with calendar girl fan who was just 17, bombshell book says
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) RUSSIAN despot Vladimir Putin seduced a 17-year-old girl who "posed in an erotic calendar to boost his voter appeal", according to a new book. The explosive claims come in "The Tsar in Person. How Vladimir Putin Fooled Us All", a freshly published tome by journalists Roman Badanin and Mikhail Rubin. 5 Putin a relationship with the 17-year-old at a time when he was married to his then wife Credit: East2West 5 Putin would have been marking his 58th birthday when he encountered Alisa Kharcheva Credit: AFP 5 Rumours around Putin's relationship with Alisa have been reported before Credit: AFP - Getty 5 Putin would have been marking his 58th birthday when he encountered Alisa Kharcheva, then 17. She was pictured illustrating the month of April in an "erotic calendar" as a "gift" to Putin by students at Moscow State University. But the calendar was actually a paid-for stunt from his PR machine to promote his macho image ahead of Russia's 2012 presidential election. This is the election that saw him return to the presidency after a four year stint as prime minister. "In reality, along with the calendar, Putin also received the contact details of the girls who appeared in it," according to the book. "His choice fell on one - 17-year-old Alisa Kharcheva, a native of Korolyov, a town near Moscow, where she had already taken part in small beauty contests." Rumours around Putin's relationship with Alisa have been reported before, but the book offers fresh details that claim to confirm it. This would mean Putin a relationship with her at a time when he was married to his then wife Lyudmila. He was also having a secret affair with gymnast lover Alina Kabaeva, 42, which reportedly began around 2007. Kabaeva would later give birth to two of the dictator's sons. Putin's lookalike 'secret son' Ivan follows in gymnast mum's footsteps "Four people familiar with the story told us that soon after [the calendar was published], Putin's aides called Kharcheva and invited her to the president's suburban residence," the book says. "After her first visit, the young beauty was taken to see the president about once every two weeks for the course of a year, according to one source." Three months after Putin's birthday, Alisa appeared on TV show 'Ten Million'. She dismissed comments about her age and the calendar was 'within the limits of what is permissible". "He [Putin] liked it very much. His press secretary said that he liked it," she said. A source told the authors: "For each meeting between Putin and Alisa we would prepare some sort of project, for her to present to Vladimir Vladimirovich [Putin]. "Alisa did this willingly. She felt grateful that she had been introduced to the president." But it adds: "What went on in the Kremlin's alcoves between a 58-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl only they know." She also reportedly was granted a place at the prestigious Moscow's Institute of International Relations as "a reward from Putin". When Putin's interest in her began to wane, she published a photo on her social media titled Pussy for Putin to mark his 60th birthday. "Kharcheva did indeed appear with a black kitten, but what caught the eye much more was the plunging neckline of her red dress," said the book. But Putin was apparently met with disapproval from Putin himself. The book reads: "Very soon, Kharcheva deleted the post, as well as removing all her old photographs from public access. "Neither she nor Putin's press service ever commented on this photo shoot." She later acquired an expensive apartment in a prestigious district of Moscow. Now 32 and married, Alisa previously denied the luxury flat was security for her by Putin. "No one has ever asked me such stupid questions," she said, claiming she paid for the mortgage.
