Cornish Metals Provides an Update on Dewatering and Shaft Refurbishment

By GlobeNewswire Published on August 13, 2025, 11:00 IST
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Aug. 13, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Cornish Metals Inc. (AIM/TSX-V: CUSN) ('Cornish Metals' or the 'Company'), a mineral exploration and development company focused on advancing its wholly owned and permitted South Crofty tin project in Cornwall, United Kingdom, is pleased to announce that mine dewatering and refurbishment of New Cook's Kitchen ('NCK') shaft is progressing well and in-line with the latest update on 23 July 2025.
Shaft refurbishment and mine dewatering have now reached the mid-shaft pump station located at approximately 360 metres below surface in NCK shaft. Securing the work area and stabilising of the underground chamber of the pump station, enabling the installation of new permanent pumps, has commenced. Shaft refurbishment and mine dewatering will continue in parallel with this work, down to the current level of the submersible pumps at approximately 380 metres below surface.
Work on the pump station is expected to be completed during Q4 2025. The submersible pumps will then be lowered to the lower pump station level (approximately 730 metres below surface) and mine dewatering and shaft refurbishment will resume at that point. Mine dewatering and NCK shaft refurbishment to the lower pump station level are expected in mid-2026, as previously guided.

More Americans are driving to Canada than Canadians to the U.S., report finds

More American travellers drove to Canada in July than Canadians did to the United States, according to a new report by Statistics Canada. This is the first time such a reversal has taken place since before the COVID-19 pandemic. The dramatic decline of Canadians travelling to the U.S. was sparked last year, with U.S. President Donald Trump's heated rhetoric about Canada becoming the 51st state that led to an ongoing trade war and lingering tension between the two countries. The data for last month shows that 1.8 million American residents drove to Canada, compared to the 1.7 million Canadian residents who made a return trip from the U.S. by car. Canadian road trips to U.S. plunge for seventh month as boycott continues Both countries saw a decline at land border crossings last month. For Americans driving to Canada, there was a slight dip of 7.4 per cent compared to the same month last year. It was also the sixth consecutive month of year-over-year declines. However, the decline was much steeper for Canadians returning from the U.S. this July compared to the previous year, at nearly 37 per cent. Last month marked the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year declines, StatCan said. 'In 2024, Canadian-resident trips to the United States totalled 39 million, representing 75 per cent of all Canadian-resident travel abroad,' according to another StatCan report published earlier this summer about travel to the U.S. 'However, recent data on foreign travel suggest that Canadians' travel sentiment toward their southern neighbour has been shifting in early 2025.' Although the data reflects a 'notable change in travel patterns,' StatCan said it is 'unclear whether the change is temporary or part of a more permanent shift.' As for air travel, the number of non-resident visitors who flew to Canada increased in July. There were 1.4 million of them — up by just over 3 per cent since the same time last year. While the bump was largely due to residents who came from overseas (up 5.6 per cent this year), American travellers were also up by just under 1 per cent. The highest number of U.S.-resident arrivals by air was 31,600 Americans on July 3, before the Independence Day long weekend in the U.S. Meanwhile, the number of Canadians returning home from abroad by air last month was down by 5.3 per cent compared to the previous year. In particular, Canadians flying back from the U.S. also decreased by nearly 26 per cent since the same time last year. Canadian permanent residents will now have to pay 'visa integrity fee' to enter U.S. Here's what it is An American sent to Canada was shocked by how furious Canadians are at the U.S. Our website is the place for the latest breaking news, exclusive scoops, longreads and provocative commentary. Tariff rebate checks in 2025? What we know about current legislation

(WJW) – It's not a pandemic stimulus check, but Congress is currently weighing the possibility of sending the American people more money. As part of the American Worker Rebate Act, introduced by Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri in July, people would receive hundreds of dollars in tariff rebate checks, which work to counteract the financial burden imposed on families by the Trump administration's tariffs. As the bill stands now, a household would get $600 for every child and adult – meaning a family of four would receive $2,400. Check amounts go down for those U.S. residents who are making more than $150,000 as a family or $75,000 individually. The bill has not been passed by the Senate or the House, and it must overcome multiple obstacles before being brought to President Trump's desk to sign. However, last month, Trump did say he was 'thinking about' approving a rebate. If the revenue from the latest tariff rollout exceeds projections, the bill leaves room for a larger rebate to be sent out to the American people. So far, there has been no word from Congress or the IRS on the possibility of a fourth stimulus check, like those issued during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. A rebate is a refund of something already paid for, while a stimulus is simply money given to pump up the economy. The U.S. Senate is currently on break for the summer and will be back in action on Sept. 2.

Mark Your Calendar: 5 Must-Watch Earnings Reports Next Week

Cost pressures are mounting for American households, with the latest U.S. inflation gauge up 2.6% in June after new tariffs drove prices higher. Despite this, retail sales rebounded 0.6% in June following a mild dip in May, though spending habits are marked by greater caution. The housing market shows another side of this complex picture. Home sales fell to an annual rate of 3.89 million units while the median home price climbed to a record $426,000, tightening affordability and cooling buyer demand. This convergence of rising inflation, resilient but watchful shoppers, and a strained real estate sector puts next week's earnings from Home Depot (HD), Lowe's (LOW), Target (TGT), BJ's Wholesale Club (BJ), and Walmart (WMT), firmly in the spotlight. These reports are worth watching. Let's find out more about these stocks. Home Depot (HD) Home Depot (HD) is one of the biggest home improvement stores in the world, worth about $405 billion. The company's next earnings update comes out on Aug. 19, 2025, and most experts think it will show profits of $4.71 per share for the quarter and $15.03 for the year. In April, Home Depot shared it made $39.86 billion in sales and ended up with $3.43 billion in net income. The results were just under what analysts guessed, off by $0.03 a share. Shares are up about 3% for the year to date and 12.7% over the past 52 weeks. Among 35 analysts, the consensus for Home Depot is a 'Strong Buy,' with an average target price of $423.67, suggesting a possible 6% gain from where shares are now. Lowe's Companies (LOW) Lowe's Companies (LOW) is a big name in home improvement, and has a market capitalization of $143 billion. In April, Lowe's brought in $20.93 billion in sales and made $1.64 billion in net income, with earnings per share of $2.92, slightly better than what the experts expected. Shares are up 2% so far in the year to date and are up 6.1% over the past 52 weeks. The average analyst rating is 'Moderate Buy' and the average target price is $267.55, also implying about 6% upside potential from here. Target (TGT) Target (TGT) is one of the largest big-box retailers in the U.S. Its next earnings update is set for Aug. 20, 2025, and experts think Target will earn $2.05 a share this quarter and $7.54 for the year, down 20% and 15% year over year. In its last earnings update for April 2025, Target recorded $23.85 billion in sales and made $1.04 billion in net income, or $1.30 per share, coming in about 20% below what analysts predicted. Shares are down 23% in the year to date and over the past 52 weeks. Earlier this year, Target announced its plans to add $5 billion in gross merchandise volume by 2030, expand its advertising business, and significantly increase the size of its Target Plus marketplace by five times. These initiatives aim to revitalize the company's performance and steer the business in the right direction. Each year, Target pays a dividend of $4.56 per share, which is a 4.4% yield. Target has a market capitalization of about $47.9 billion. Most analysts rate Target as a 'Hold,' with an average target price of $107.90, meaning they see a 4% gain from here. BJ's Wholesale Club (BJ) BJ's Wholesale Club (BJ) is a membership warehouse chain worth about $13.7 billion. The company's next earnings report comes out Aug. 22, 2025, and analysts think BJ's will make $1.10 per share this quarter and $4.29 for the year. In its last earnings report for the first quarter, released in May, BJ's said it made $5.15 billion in sales and brought in nearly $150 million in net income, or $1.14 per share, which beat what experts were expecting by a wide margin of 25%. Shares are up about 15% in the year to date and up 25% over the past 52 weeks. Most analysts are upbeat about BJ's, with 18 calling it a consensus 'Moderate Buy' and giving it an average price target of $125.44, a possible 21% climb from current prices. Walmart (WMT) Walmart (WMT) is one of the biggest retailers in the world, worth about $805 billion, with stores and online shopping everywhere. The company pays a yearly dividend of $0.94 per share, giving investors a 0.93% yield. Its next earnings update is coming up on Aug. 21, 2025, and most experts think Walmart will show profits of $0.72 a share for the quarter and $2.60 for the whole year. That would be a healthy jump of over 7% and 3% compared to last year. For its April earnings report, Walmart reported $165.61 billion in sales and $4.49 billion in net income, or $0.61 a share, beating what analysts predicted by more than 7%. Shares are up 11.9% in the year to date and up 47% over the past year. The consensus is very optimistic, with 35 analysts saying Walmart is a consensus 'Strong Buy.' Their average price target is $111.85, suggesting the stock could go up another 10%. Conclusion Earnings season for these five giants is packed with signals about where Main Street and Wall Street head next. With inflation still pressing wallets and the housing market tight, retailers showing growth and defensive strength look well-positioned to keep leading, while others may have to fight just to hold ground. Chances are, we could see more positive surprises from value-focused names, while those relying on discretionary spending may face extra pressure. Either way, next week's results are set to shake things up.
