Three world teams confirmed for Le Tour de Langkawi 2025
Three WorldTeams and eight ProTeams are among the confirmed participants, alongside 10 continental teams.
The WorldTeams include XDS Astana Team (Kazakhstan), Team Picnic PostNL (Netherlands), and Cofidis (France).
National Sports Council (NSC) Deputy Director-General Ariffin Mohd Ghani noted the same number of elite teams as last year.
Six of the eight ProTeams competed in this year's Grand Tours, including Total Energies and Tudor Pro Cycling Team.
Ariffin expects fierce competition, particularly in Stages 3 and 5, despite no Genting Highlands climb this year.
Stage 7 will be the longest at 214.6 km, while the final stage covers 180 km from Tangkak to KLCC.
Full rider rosters are still pending, but the race is set to attract strong interest from cycling fans.
LTdL Chief Operating Officer Emir Abdul Jalal remains uncertain if last year's champion Max Poole will return.
Notable riders like Fabio Jakobsen and Alexander Kristoff will compete, boosting the event's prestige.
This year's route spans 1,257.8 km across all 12 Peninsular Malaysia states.
Emir highlighted LTdL's status as a premier Asian race, with more WT and ProTeam entries than other regional events.
The race is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports through NSC and PKBM.

Zii Jia's registration for two tourneys next month shows he's on the mend
PETALING JAYA: Former Asian champion Lee Zii Jia appears to be on the mend from his previous injury after signing up for two tournaments in September. Based on the main and qualifying (M&Q) list, the two tournaments are the Hong Kong Masters, a Super 500 event scheduled from Sept 9 to 14, followed by the China Masters in Shenzhen from Sept 16 to 21, which carries a Super 750 status. Also listed for the tournament is compatriot Leong Jun Hao. The last time he competed was at the All-England in March, where he crashed out in the first round. That, along with the Orleans Masters, were the only tournaments he played in this year before his management, TeamLZJ, announced that he would be taking an extended break due to a recurrence of his old injury. Since then, although he has been granted a protected ranking by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), his standing has slipped to No. 52 in the world. The Star had earlier reported that the former world No. 8 would not be withdrawing from the World Championships in Paris, despite speculation that he might do so ahead of the Aug 12 withdrawal deadline. This is because his recurring injury had continued to trouble him, forcing him to pull out at the last minute from several tournaments, including the Japan Open and China Open last month.

Azizul back on his own special bike as he eyes spot for world meet
PETALING JAYA: After a long lull, track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang is back on the saddle of his specially fitted WX-R Vorteq bicycle as he eyes a spot in the team for the World Championships in Chile, Santiago, from Oct 22-26. The 2020 Olympic silver medallist revealed on his social media account that he was back at the Joe Caviola Velodrome in Melbourne, Australia, to start training on the bicycle, which was specially engineered to his physique and racing needs. "I am back at this velodrome after about one year has passed. "How happy I am to step into the Joe Caviola Velodrome. This was the first place I trained when I first came to Melbourne in 2007. I came at that time with the intention to raise the country's name," said the two-time Olympic medal winner in keirin. "Nothing has changed and my determination stays the same.'' After leaving fans in the dark since his heartbreaking exit from the Paris Olympics last year, the former world champion cleared the air in May regarding his future by announcing that he will continue racing. Azizul, who had previously hinted at retiring, will continue as a professional rider while receiving backing from the government in the form of a RM200,000 grant from the Youth and Sports Ministry through the National Sports Council (NSC). The grant is to help him with training and competition expenses for the 2025-2026 period. Azizul, who will now compete under Team Azizul, said the NSC also gave the nod for him to continue using his WX-R Vorteq bicycle. "This bike was made for me – no one else can really use it. "I am at the early phase of preparation. I was at the National Velodrome in Nilai to train with the guys back home before this but this is the first time I am back on the WX-R Vorteq bike. "I want to maximise my time here and see where I stand from the data gained. "Hopefully, I will improve further in the coming weeks," said the 37-year-old, who was recently named as the brand ambassador for Volkswagen Malaysia and Malaysia Airlines.

Son Heung-min thrilled to join LAFC
