Falcons sign RT Kaleb McGary to two-year, $30 million extension
According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons are signing right tackle Kaleb McGary to a two-year, $30 million extension. McGary was entering the final year of his contract. The extension now keeps him in Atlanta through the 2027 season. The Falcons selected McGary in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft out of Washington. After getting off to a slow start his rookie year, McGary has developed nicely over the last five seasons. The 30-year-old is a dominant run blocker and has improved in pass protection. McGary's pass protection will be especially important now that the team has a left-handed quarterback in Michael Penix Jr. starting under center. It will be interesting to see how much cap space the Falcons may have cleared by extending McGary. Over the Cap listed the team with just under $5 million available prior to this signing. UPDATE: Falcons announce McGary's extension The Falcons officially announced McGary's signing shortly after Schultz reported it. With over 25 players set to hit free agency in 2026, the team made a wise move by locking up a key starter for two more seasons. Atlanta returned to practice on Monday. Rookies Jalon Walker and Xavier Watts were both out there after being restricted to individual drills over the late few practices. Head coach Raheem Morris said wide receiver Darnell Mooney (shoulder) will be out for a few more weeks. Report – Fenerbahce To Make Last-Ditch Bid For Inter Milan Star With Juventus Wantaway The Backup
Fenerbahce are set to make a last-ditch bid to sign Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu. This according to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews. They report that the Turkish giants' Plan B would be to sign out-of-favour Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz. Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has been at the centre of no shortage of transfer speculation this summer. The 31-year-old was reportedly a major target for Galatasaray for several weeks. This led to a rioft behind the scenes. Inter captain Lautaro Martinez had all but called out the Turkish international a few weeks ago. Speaking frankly after Inter's Club World Cup exit against Fluminense, the Argentine implored 'whoever wants to leave, leave.' However, in the end Galatasaray's offer was nowhere near Inter's asking price. (Photo by) Galatasaray were not the only club from Istanbul to show an interest in Calhanoglu's signature, though. Fenerbahce reportedly also sounded out a deal for the former AC Milan midfielder. According to SportMediaset, in fact, Fenerbahce still consider Calhanoglu a target. Therefore, the broadcaster report, the Turkish side will make a last-ditch offer before the end of the transfer window. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho's side are targeting a different midfielder from within Serie A if they're unable to sign Calhanoglu. There is little doubt that former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz will be available after a lacklustre first season at Juventus.
