Even after Trump told them to eat tariffs, Walmart hiked prices — and it's going viral
In mid-May, Walmart said prices would go up because of President Trump's new tariffs. Other big companies like Best Buy, AutoZone, and Adidas also said they'll raise prices since the tariffs are making it more expensive to do business, as per reports.
Trump has often said that countries like China will pay for the tariffs, not Americans. But when Walmart announced
price hikes
, Trump told Walmart on Truth Social to "EAT THE TARIFFS." Walmart made $684.2 billion in sales in 2024 but didn't give a forecast for early 2025 because they're unsure about the effects of the tariffs. Now, a few weeks later, prices at Walmart are actually going up, and people are posting photos and receipts showing the new prices, as mentioned in the report by BuzzFeed.
A doll that used to cost $34.97 now costs $49.97. From $57.37 to $83.26 the price of a fishing reel has increased. A roll of tape that used to be $4.24 has jumped to $9.94. An employee posted it and said, 'The tariffs are tariffing.' A heating pad shown on a customer's Walmart app receipt went from $19.98 to $24.96. An 8-pack of Play-Doh used to be $5.64, now it's $7.47. A tablet jumped from $79 to $97, as per reports.
