A 45-year-old man from Manipur's Churachandpur was found dead near Bishnupur district, police said on Friday. Sokhongam Baite, a resident of Tuibong, has been missing since Thursday evening after he went out to collect bamboo shoots, they said.Tension briefly engulfed Churachandpur town in the night over the incident.Security personnel deployed in Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts launched a search for Baite, whose body was found near an electric transformer in the Torbung area, some 13 km away from his house, officials said.advertisement
The body could not be retrieved at night as there were high-voltage electric lines. It was recovered on Friday morning and sent to the Churachandpur district hospital for post-mortem examination, they said."The exact cause of death will be known from the post-mortem examination. Preliminary investigations indicate that he might have died due to electrocution," an official said.While people of the Kuki community live in Churachandpur, the Bishnupur district is dominated by Meiteis. Over 260 people have been killed and thousands left homeless after ethnic clashes broke out between Kukis and Meiteis in May 2023.The first incidents of violence that triggered the clashes were reported from Torbung, where the body was found.- EndsMust Watch

His parents took him to a doctor, where the boy disclosed that he had been sexually abused by Maulana Noor Hasan Mohammad Ibrahim Hazrat. 'When the parents questioned him further, he said that when he went to the madrasa, there were five or six students there. The Maulana asked him to stop after teaching him and took him to the upstairs room where he sexually abused him,' the report said. The boy also revealed that the maulana had threatened to punish him in class and beat him if he spoke about the accused, originally from Uttar Pradesh, had been living in the mosque for the past two and a half years and teaching Quran-e-Sharif to children in the area. During this time, he allegedly abused the boy 20 to 25 the registration of the case, maulana absconded. However, police tracked and arrested him using technical surveillance. The event on Monday was attended by Maj Gen Ravroop Singh, IG Assam Rifles (South), and the Director of IIIT Manipur, highlighting the importance of defence-academia cooperation. As part of the initiative, an Advanced Drone Training and Refresher Course was also launched for Assam Rifles personnel, covering drone flight operations, maintenance, and DGCA-certified training. The programme aims to strengthen surveillance, reconnaissance, and logistics support capabilities. Around 80 participants, including defence personnel and IIIT faculty, took part in the event, reaffirming the shared commitment to innovation and capacity building. Last year Manipur witnessed hi tech attacks, one person was killed, and six others suffered injuries in an attack by rocket propelled bombs in Moirang in rocket, believed to be improvised, landed in the compound of former chief minister Mairembam Koireng's residence.
