Major Scots road shut as police warn public to stay away

COPS have urged people to stay away after a major road was closed down.
A section of Greenock Road in Paisley was shut down this morning.

Greenock Road in Paisley has been closed

The road is closed between Mossvale Lane and the Caledonia Street, Murray Street and Albion Street Junction.
A police spokesperson said: "Motorists are asked to avoid the area and seek an alternative route."
The exact nature of what caused the closure is currently not known.
Police Scotland has been approached for further comment.

Man knocked down and attacked in 'alarming' broad daylight incident
A hunt has been launched after a man was struck by a car and assaulted in Stirling. The 41-year-old man was on Main Street in Cambusbarron around 1.10pm on Wednesday when he was hit by a car before a male passenger got out and attacked him. The car left the scene in the direction of Bikhill Road and was later found burnt out in a wooded area near Bore Row, Plean. The victim did not require medical treatment. Police are now looking to trace two suspects involved in the 'alarming incident'. The first suspect is described as a man around 5ft 9in tall, of slim build. He was wearing all black clothing with his hood up, face partially covered, and black gloves. The second suspect is described as a man with grey hair and wearing glasses. Police Scotland is urging anyone with information to come forward. Detective sergeant Gavin McLuskey said: 'This was an alarming incident for the victim, and I would urge anyone who saw what happened, or who saw the blue Skoda Fabia in the area, to get in touch. 'We are also keen to hear from anyone with private CCTV, doorbell, or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, as it could be vital to our investigation. 'Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1603 of July 2, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.' Update after emergency crews spotted at River Leven incident
Police were alerted to a report of concern for a person potentially in the River Leven near Place of Bonhill in Renton, Dumbarton, at around 4pm on Wednesday, July 2. After being alerted to the incident, officers, alongside HM Coastguard teams and fire crews, rushed to the area. During the incident, we reported how several locals took to social media to report that 'loads' of emergency teams had swarmed the area. In a Facebook post, one person claimed that they heard 'lots of sirens'. Another wrote: "15 emergency units and a fireboat sped through Renton." A third said: "Loads of different types of search and rescue down at St Martins (St Martins of Tours Catholic Church on Main Street, Renton)." A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4pm on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, we received a report of concern for a person potentially in the water near Place of Bonhill in Renton." A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard assisted Police Scotland with reports of an individual in the water near the River Leven today, July 2, at around 4.15pm. "A Coastguard helicopter was tasked." The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has been contacted for comment.

He was not asked to plead on another count of failing to cooperate with a preliminary test at the roadside. The jockey crashed his car into a tree in Hermitage, Berkshire, on April 27 this year just after midnight. He had ridden a treble at Leicester the day before the crash. Murphy, who grew up in Killarney, Co Kerry, has been crowned UK champion jockey four times - in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2024. He was among the winners at the Doncaster Racecourse Supporting Racing Staff Week Handicap last week. Murphy also rode five winners at Royal Ascot earlier in June. He will be sentenced later today.
